Voice interface on Xiaomi TVs (Mi TV, Redmi TV, Xiaomi TV A Pro) can be useful for people with disabilities, but often becomes an annoyance to most users. The system reads out every menu item, channel name and even notifications β this distracts from viewing and slows navigation. Fortunately, you can turn off this feature in a few minutes, but the methods differ depending on the version of the MIUI TV firmware and device model.
In this article, weβll look at all the current methods for disabling voice acting, including hidden settings for older versions of software where the option is hidden deep in the menu, and how to return voice back if you need it, and what to do if standard methods donβt work. Particular emphasis is placed on the Xiaomi TV 4A/4S/5A (2018-2023), Redmi Smart TV X and the flagship A Pro/Q2 series, but instructions will also be suitable for other Android TV devices.
Before you start, make sure your remote is working β some Xiaomi models require the use of the original remote with microphone to access accessibility settings. If you have a universal remote, you will need to connect a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse.
Why does Xiaomi TV read the menu out loud?
The voice function of the interface (in the official documentation of Xiaomi it is called βTalkBackβ or βVoice Assistantβ) is included for several reasons:
- ποΈ Accidental tapping is the most common reason. On Xiaomi remotes, a combination of Menu buttons + OK (3 seconds) or Voice search + Back can activate the mode for the visually impaired.
- π Resetting β After returning to factory settings, some models automatically include voiceover as part of βuniversal availabilityΒ».
- π₯ Update of firmware - in versions MIUI TV 3.0-4.5 (2020-2022) after the update may be lost the status of the function.
- πΆ Children's mode - in some regional firmware (for example, for India), the voiceover is included with parental control.
Now, it's important to understand that TalkBack is not just voice cues, it's a full-fledged mode for people with visual impairments. It changes the logic of management: instead of just clicking a menu item, you need to double tap, and the remote gestures work differently, so you need to turn it off if you're not the target audience of this feature.
Method 1: Disconnect via basic settings (MIUI TV 4.0 and later)
This method works on most modern models, including the Xiaomi TV Q2 2023, Redmi Smart TV X55 and other devices with MIUI TV 4.0+ firmware. The interface may differ slightly, but the logic remains the same:
- Press the Settings (cog) button on the remote.
- Go to All Settings β Special Features (or Additional β Availability on some models).
- Find the "TalkBack" or "Voice Assistant" item and turn off the slider.
- Confirm the action by clicking OK in the dialog box.
If after turning off the voiceover continues to work, try to restart the TV: press the Power button on the remote for 5 seconds and select Reboot.

If the TV stops recognizing the remote after manipulation, reset via Settings β System system β Resetting settings.

Method 4: Resetting settings to factory

How do you get the voiceover back?
If you need to turn on TalkBack again (for example, for relatives with vision problems), do it through:
- Settings β Special features β TalkBack (enable the slider).
- Voice command: tell the microphone to βEnable TalkBackβ (works on models with Google Assistant).
- Button combination: Press and hold Menu + OK for 5 seconds (on remotes without a microphone).
Once activated, the system will offer a brief visually impaired management training, and to exit the training, press Back twice.
