Why does the Poco X3 talk without your consent?
You turned on your phone and it suddenly started reading notifications, commenting on your actions or offering voice help? That's not a problem, that's how voice support works in MIUI. On Xiaomi Poco X3, it can activate for several reasons:
First, the system defaults on text-to-speech services (TTS), which voice system messages (for example, βCharge connectedβ or βLow batteryβ). Second, Google Assistant or Mi AI Assistant can be triggered by accidentally pressing the Power button or voice command. Finally, some applications (for example, Google Maps or Yandex.Navigator) also use voice prompts, but their settings are hidden deep in the menu.
In this article, weβll take a look at all possible sources of voice on Poco X3, from system features to third-party apps, and show you how to turn each of them off. No magic buttons: only proven ways to explain why they work.
Method 1: Disabling System Actions Voiceover (TTS)
If your phone is commenting on every action you take ("Screen unlocked," "charger connected"), the Text-to-Speech (TTS) module is to blame. In MIUI, it often turns on after updates or resets, to turn it off:
- Go to Settings β Special features β Text to speech.
- Click on TTS Settings (could be called Google Speech Engine or Pico TTS).
- Select No in the Preferred Engine section.
- Go back and turn off the text-to-speech slider.
If the text-to-speech item is not in the Special Opportunities menu, try an alternative path:
Settings β Additional settings β Language and input β Text in speechSlider "Text to speech" in the settings is turned off
Installed the engine "No" in the TTS settings
Rebooted phone to apply changes
Checked that system notifications are no longer voiced-->
Why does it work? TTS is responsible for converting text to speech, and when you turn it off at the system level, MIUI stops sending voice requests to even apps that support it (like Google Play Books or Readers).
Method 2: Deactivate Google Assistant
Google Assistant is the main chatterbox on the Poco X3, and it can be activated by:
- π On the voice command (OK, GoogleΒ»)
- π± When holding a button home (if it is on your firmware)
- π When connecting to charging (if Assistive Touch option is enabled)
- πΆ Through notifications (such as weather reminders)
To disable the assistant:
- Open the Google app (the icon with the letter βGβ).
- Slip on the avatar in the upper right corner β Settings β Google Assistant.
- Go to General Settings and turn off the Google Assistant slider.
- In the Device section, select Poco X3 and deactivate the Voice Coincidence and Lock screen options.
What happens if you just delete the Google app?
β οΈ Note: If you use Google Pay or other services in the Google ecosystem, completely disabling the assistant may limit their functionality.
Method 3: Disable Mi AI Assistant (for Chinese firmware)
On the Poco X3 with global firmware, the Mi AI Assistant is usually missing, but if you have installed a Chinese version of MIUI (for example, to unlock the bootloader), this assistant can be activated by double pressing the Power button or by voice command in Chinese.
To turn it off:
- Go to Settings β Memory and Applications β Application Management.
- Find the Mi AI Assistant (robot icon).
- Click Disconnect β Stop β Clear the cache.
- Return to Settings β Buttons and gestures β Power button and turn off the option Double press for Mi AI.
| Symptoms. | Probable cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The voice speaks Chinese. | Mi AI Assistant is activated | Disable in the application settings |
| Notifications are voiced in Russian | TTS or Google Assistant enabled | Methods 1 or 2 |
| The voice is triggered when connecting the charging | Assistive Touch in Google Assistant | Disable in the settings of the assistant |
| Applications (such as Maps) speak without a request | Settings of voiceover in the application itself | Disable in the application settings (see Method 5) |
π‘
If after disabling Mi AI Assistant on Chinese firmware appeared artifacts (for example, the icon βPhoneβ disappeared), reset settings through Settings β About Phone β Reset settings, selecting Reset only settings (without deleting data).
Method 4: Configure the voice notifications
Sometimes voice tracking comes not from the system, but from individual applications that have the right to read notifications, for example, Google Maps can voice a route, and Yandex.Mail can read new emails, to stop this:
Step 1. Turn off the notification voiceover in the Android settings:
- Go to Settings β Notifications β Additional settings.
- Find the Notification Voice and turn it off.
Step 2: Disable notifications for unnecessary applications:
- In the same Notifications section, select Access to Notifications.
- View the list of apps and disable access for those that should not read notifications (e.g. Facebook, VK, Telegram).
π‘
Notifications may return after MIUI updates. Check this settings section after each update!
Method 5: Verification of Third-Party Applications
Some programs have their own voice engines that run in parallel with the system engines, such as:
- π Readers (voice of books)
- πΊοΈ Google Maps/Yandex.Navigator (voice prompts)
- π΅ Spotify/YouTube Music (voice commands)
- π€ Alice from Yandex or Siri (if synchronized)
To find and disable them:
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Sort the list by Permissions and find apps with Microphone or Text-to-Speech access.
- Open the settings for each suspicious app and:
Example for Google Maps:
Open Maps β Profile β Settings β Navigation β Voice β Select βNo Soundββ οΈ Warning: Turning off the microphone for Google Maps or Navigator will deprive you of voice search for addresses. Instead, it is better to configure voiceover only for navigation, leaving access to the microphone.
Method 6: Reset the sound settings (if nothing helps)
If the voice still works despite all attempts, the problem may lie in the failure of the audio profile settings, in which case the reset will help:
- Go to Settings β About the phone β Reset settings.
- Select Network, Sound and Display Reset (not a full reset!).
- Confirm the action and wait for the reboot.
After reset, recheck the TTS and Google Assistant settings β they can turn on again.

If the reset didn't work, the problem could be a custom firmware or a corrupted system file, in which case only flashing through the Fastboot or MI Flash Tool will help.
