Why Xiaomiโs keyboard vibration irritates users
Keyboard vibration is a feature that should improve the user experience, but in practice often becomes a source of discomfort, especially on Xiaomi smartphones with the proprietary shell MIUI, where tactile feedback is enabled by default and is often set to maximum intensity.
First, the constant vibration of typing drains the battery โ even if only slightly, but in combination with other backgrounds, it reduces battery life. Second, it creates unnecessary noise in quiet rooms (libraries, negotiations), which can confuse others. Finally, many people just find this feature redundant: modern touch screens already provide a clear response without additional tactile stimulation.
Interestingly, on different Xiaomi models (from the budget Redmi Note to the flagship Xiaomi 13 Ultra), the vibration settings can be located in different menus, this is due to the version of MIUI (12 to 14) and the keyboard used - the standard Mi Keyboard or Gboard from Google.
Method 1: Turn off vibration in the standard Mi Keyboard
If you use the Mi Keyboard, which is the default keyboard for all Xiaomi smartphones, the algorithm will be as follows. It is important to note that the appearance of the menu may vary slightly depending on the version of MIUI:
- Open any field to enter text (such as notes or messenger) to appear keyboard.
- Click on the gear icon (โ๏ธ) in the upper right corner of the keyboard - this will cause the settings menu.
- Go to Sound and Vibration (or Tactile Feedback in the newer versions).
- Move the slider Vibration when pressed to the off position..
On some models (such as the POCO X5 Pro or Redmi 12), this option may be called Vibration Response or Haptic feedback. If you donโt find the right item, try updating the keyboard through the Google Play Store โ sometimes after the update, additional options appear.

โ ๏ธ Attention: On devices with MIUI 14 and later, after turning off the vibration in the keyboard, a reset of settings may work when you update the system. To avoid this, record the current parameters through Settings. โ Annexes โ Application management โ Mi Keyboard โ Warehouse โ Save the data.
Method 2: Set up vibration in Gboard (Google keyboard)
Many Xiaomi users prefer Gboard because of advanced features like gesture input or built-in translator, which is a keyboard that turns off vibration differently than the standard Mi Keyboard.
- Open Gboard in any text field.
- Click on the icon with three dots (โฎ) keyboard.
- Select Settings โ Text entry options.
- Scroll down to the Vibration section when pressed and deactivate the switch.
Gboard also has an option called Press Sound, which you can turn off in parallel, and if you still feel the vibration after this manipulation, check the system's global vibration settings:
Settings โ Sound and vibration โ Vibration when touchedThis parameter is responsible for tactile feedback in all applications, including the keyboard, and turning it off completely removes vibration, but can affect the usability of other functions (for example, vibrations when unlocking the screen).

If it returns after the vibration in Gboard is turned off after the reboot, clear the app cache in Settings โ Apps โ Gboard โ Storage โ Clear the cache.
Method 3: Global Vibration Shutdown in MIUI
If you want to completely remove all vibration effects on the device, including keyboard, notifications and system sounds, use the central MIUI settings. This method is suitable for users who fundamentally do not like tactile feedback:
- Go to Settings. โ Sound and vibration.
- Select Vibration (or Tactile Feedback in newer versions).
- Turn off all available options: ๐ฑ Vibration on touch ๐ Notification vibration ๐ Vibration when unlocked
Note that on some models (such as Xiaomi 12T or Redmi K50), these settings can be divided into several tabs. If the vibration of the keyboard remains after turning off, check the settings of the specific keyboard application separately (see Methods 1 and 2).
| Xiaomi model | The path to vibration settings | Features |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 11/12 | Settings โ Sound โ Vibration | There is no separate keyboard switch |
| POCO F4/F5 | Settings โ Display โ Tactile feedback | Additional vibration intensity settings |
| Xiaomi 13/14 | Settings โ Sound and vibration โ Vibration effects | Support for customization of vibration patterns |
| Redmi 10C | Settings โ System settings โ Vibration | Simplified menu without separation by vibration type |
โ ๏ธ Attention: On devices with MIUI for POCO (for example, POCO X3 Pro) global vibration shutdown may cause navigation gestures to fail, in which case it is recommended to turn off vibration only for the keyboard through its settings.
Method 4: Using ADB to force vibrations to shut down
For advanced users who are not afraid to work with the developer tools, there is a method to turn off vibration through ADB (Android Debug Bridge), which is useful if the standard settings do not work or are blocked by the manufacturer.
- ๐ฅ๏ธ A computer with installed Xiaomi drivers and ADB
- ๐ฑ Included debugging by USB smartphone
- ๐ USB-cable (preferably original)
Algorithm of action:
- Connect your smartphone to your PC and confirm the debugging permission.
- Open the command prompt (or Terminal on Mac/Linux) and type:
adb shell settings put global haptic_feedback_enabled 0This command globally disables all vibration effects in the system, including the keyboard. To return the vibration, replace 0 with 1.
adb shell settings put secure vibrate_on 0The advantage of this method is that it works even on devices with custom firmware or modified versions of MIUI. However, be careful: incorrect ADB commands can lead to system failures.
What if the ADB does not recognize the device?
Method 5: Disabling Vibration Through Developer Parameters
The developer menu contains additional vibration control options that are not available in the standard settings.
- Go to Settings. โ The phone.
- Click 7 times in a row on the MIUI version until the notification appears You became a developer!
- Return to the main settings menu and open a new section โ For developers.
Find the following parameters (their names may vary):
- ๐ง Turn off vibration when touching โ removes tactile response in all applications.
- ๐ฑ Turn off keyboard vibration โ targeted shutdown for keyboards.
- โก Limit background processes โ indirectly affects the operation of the vibration engine.
After applying the changes, restart the device. This method is especially useful for Xiaomi owners with custom firmware (for example, Xiaomi.eu or LineageOS), where standard settings can be modified.
Frequent problems and their solutions
Even after the vibration is turned off in the settings, some users are faced with the vibration resumption, and consider typical scenarios and ways to eliminate them:
1.Vibration returns after reboot
This is due to automatic resetting of settings by some system applications.
- ๐ Turn off Mi Keyboard or Gboard auto-update in Google Play Store.
- ๐ ๏ธ Clear the keyboard app cache in the storage settings.
- ๐ฑ Check for updates MIUI โ In new versions, this error is often corrected.
2 Vibration only works in certain applications
Some messengers (such as Telegram or WhatsApp) have their own keyboard settings. Go to the settings of a particular application and find the Keyboard or Text Enter section.
3. There is no "Vibration" item in the keyboard settings
This is typical of older versions of MIUI (below 12) or custom firmware.
- ๐ Install an alternative keyboard (like SwiftKey) where vibration settings are more flexible.
- ๐ฒ Use it. ADB (See method 4) for forced shutdown.
