Key vibrations on Xiaomi smartphones are not something that everyone likes. For some users, tactile recoil when typing creates a pleasant βresponseβ feeling, while for others it becomes a source of irritation: distracts from work, drains the battery and can even interfere with important calls. Fortunately, the manufacturer has provided several ways to turn off the keyboard vibration β both through standard MIUI settings and using hidden settings.
In this article, we will discuss all the current methods for different versions of firmware (from MIUI 12 to MIUI 14), including solutions for the Mi Keyboard, Gboard and other popular applications. Particular attention will be paid to the nuances: why the vibration can turn on itself after an update, how to turn it off for specific applications (for example, only on WhatsApp or Telegram), and what to do if the standard settings do not work.
If you have tried to turn off vibration through the settings menu, but without success, do not rush to reset your phone to factory settings. 90% of the time, the problem is solved in 2-3 minutes using one of the methods described below.
1.Switch off vibration in the standard Mi Keyboard keyboard
Most Xiaomi smartphones (including the Redmi Note 11, POCO X5, Mi 11 Lite) use the Mi Keyboard by default.
- Open any application where the keyboard appears (such as Messages or Notes).
- Touch the gear badge (βοΈ) in the top row of the keyboard to open its settings.
- Go to the section Settings of the keyboard β Vibration when pressed.
- Move the slider to the off position or uncheck (depending on the version of MIUI).
If you don't have Vibration on the menu, your Mi Keyboard version is outdated, upgrade it through the Google Play Store or use an alternative method in the next section.
π‘
On some models (e.g. Redmi 10C), the path to settings may be different: Additional β Tactile Feedback. If you donβt find an option, check if itβs hidden behind the More button (three dots in the upper right corner).
2. Vibration settings in Gboard and other keyboards
If you use an alternative keyboard (like Googleβs Gboard, SwiftKey, or Fleksy), the vibration-off algorithm will be different, and consider Gboard, the most popular Android keyboard:
- π± Open the phone settings β Annexes β Application management.
- π In the search bar, enter Gboard and select the app from the list.
- βοΈ Go to the App Settings β Gboard keyboard.
- π Find the Sound and Vibration section and turn off the Vibration option when pressed.
For SwiftKey, the path will be: SwiftKey Settings β Sound and Vibration β Vibration on Press. Importantly, some keyboards (such as the Samsung Keyboard) may not support vibration disabling on Xiaomi devices due to conflict with MIUI system settings.
3. disable system vibration in MIUI settings
If the keys are not turned off by the keyboard settings, the problem may be in the system vibration parameters. MIUI has a separate section that provides haptic feedback for all interface elements, including the keyboard, to find it:
- Go to Settings. β Sound and vibration.
- Select Vibration (or Tactile Feedback in newer versions).
- Turn off the vibration slider when touching.
Warning: This method will turn off vibration not only for the keyboard, but also for all system buttons (for example, when you return or open the menu). If you need to save vibration for notifications or calls, use the more point settings from the next section.
| MIUI version | The path to vibration settings | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| MIUI 12 | Settings β Sound and vibration β Vibration β Vibration when touched | May not be available on budget models (e.g. Redmi 9A) |
| MIUI 13 | Settings β Sound β Vibration and tactile feedback | You can also adjust the vibration force. |
| MIUI 14 | Settings β Sounds and vibrations β Tactile feedback | There are separate settings for the keyboard and system buttons |
4. Hidden settings for experienced users
If standard methods do not work, the vibration of the keys can be turned off through the developer mode or ADB-These are the ways that we can use for advanced users, because they need to be very careful.
Method 1: Through Developer Mode
Activate Developer Mode by pressing the build number 7 times in Settings β About Phone.
- Go to Settings β Additional β For developers.
- Find the option to turn off vibration when pressed (or Haptic feedback in English).
- Activate it and restart the device.
Method 2: Through ADB
This will require a computer with ADB drivers installed and USB debugging enabled on the phone.
adb shell settings put global haptic_feedback_enabled 0To return the vibration, replace 0 with 1.
What if the ADB does not recognize the device?
5. Does the vibration turn on itself? Causes and solutions
Many users complain that the key vibration turns on on itself after updating MIUI or rebooting the phone.
- π Automatic reset after major updates (for example, when switching from a new system to a new one) MIUI 13 on MIUI 14).
- π± Keyboard conflict: if several keyboards are installed, their settings can overlap.
- π Battery optimization: The system can include vibration to save energy (paradoxically, but this is how it works in some firmware).
Decisions:
- After updating MIUI, check the vibration settings again β they may have reset.
- Remove unused keyboards in Settings β Apps.
- Add the keyboard to the list No limits in battery settings (Settings β Battery β Battery Optimization).
β Updated the keyboard to the latest version
β Reboot the phone after the changes
β Checked the settings in the developer mode
β Removed conflicting keyboards
β Reset the keyboard settings to the factory-->
6.Out of vibration for individual applications
If the key vibration is annoying only in certain applications (for example, in VK or Instagram), you can turn it off selectively.
- Install the MacroDroid or Tasker app from Google Play.
- Create a new automation with the condition Launched application [name].
- Add the action Turn off the vibration (in Tasker it is Vibrate Off).
- Save the macro and activate it.
MacroDroid is a good template for Turn off vibration when you open [the app]. This method does not require root rights and works on all versions of MIUI.
π‘
Automation via MacroDroid or Tasker is the only way to disable key vibration selectively for certain applications without root rights.
7.If nothing helps: resetting keyboard settings
In rare cases, the vibration settings may freeze due to a keyboard failure, to reset them:
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Find the Mi Keyboard (or other keyboard) and open its settings.
- Press Warehouse. β Clear the data.
- Confirm the action and restart the phone.
β οΈ Warning: Clearing the keyboard data will remove all user dictionaries and settings. After the reboot, you will have to reconfigure the language, themes and other settings.
If the reset didnβt work, try temporarily installing another keyboard (like Gboard) and checking if the problem persists, which will help determine if the bug is related to firmware or a particular application.
