Introduction: why the right connection is the key to a long work of the robot
Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop (and its modifications: 1S, 2 Lite, Pro, E10) is not just a gadget for cleaning, but a full member of the smart home ecosystem. However, many users face problems already at the stage of first switching on: the device does not connect to Wi-Fi, the Mi Home application does not see the robot, or errors such as “Device offline” or “Cannot Added”, the reason most often lies in the details: the wrong region in the application, outdated smartphone firmware or conflict with the router.
This article will help avoid the typical mistakes of connecting Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop the first time — whether it’s a new model in 2026 or a budget version of 2020. We will analyze not only the basic steps, but also hidden settings that the manufacturer does not specify in the official instructions, for example, why the robot can “lose” the network after updating the firmware or how to link it to a Xiaomi account if you have already used another smart device of the brand.
Important: If you have an LDS-enabled model (e.g. Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro), the connection process is slightly different from the visual navigation versions (camera instead of laser).
Step 1: Preparation before first switching on
Before you press the power button, make sure that three key conditions are met:
- 🔋 Charging the robot: connect the device to the charging base and wait until the indicator on the body lights up in blue (charge level) ≥ Pro and Ultra models may require ≥ 50% for the first run.
- 📶 Wi-Fi network: the robot supports only networks 2.4 GHz. If your router is running 5 GHz 2.4/5 GHz Auto, will have to create a separate network for the 2.4 GHz or off 5 GHz temporarily.
- 📱 Mi Home: Install the latest version from Google Play or App Store. Outdated versions (e.g. 6.x) may not support new robot models.
Tip: if you have a dual-band router (for example, Xiaomi Mi Router 4A), go to its settings at 192.168.31.1 and in the Wi-Fi section → Basic settings turn on the option “Separate 2.4G and 5G”. This will save you from problems with connecting not only the robot, but also other smart devices.
⚠️ Note: Some robot models (e.g. Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop) E10) sensitive to special symbols in the name of the Wi-Fi network. SSID contains spaces, hyphens or Cyrillic, rename the network to the Latin alphabet without punctuation marks.
Step 2: Create a Xiaomi account and select a region
Without a Xiaomi account, you can't connect the robot to your ecosystem profile. If you don't have an account, sign up:
- Open the Mi Home app and click Profile → Sign in → Register.
- Please provide a valid email or phone number (Russian operators are supported).
- Confirm registration via SMS or letter.
Critical point: when registering, select a region "Russia" (or your country), and if you specify, for example, "China", the robot can:
- 🌍 Do not support Russian in the voice assistant.
- 📡 Distorted room maps (due to different laser navigation standards).
- 🔄 Get firmware updates with delay.
If you are already registered with another region, you can only change it through the web version of your account (Personal Data section), but note: changing the region will reset all associated devices!
What to do if you do not receive an SMS for registration?
Step 3: Adding a robot to the Mi Home app
Now, the most important step is to link the robot to the account.
- Turn the robot on by pressing the power button for 3 seconds, wait for the beep and the indicator flash.
- In the Mi Home app, click "+" → "Add device."
- Select the category "Robot vacuum cleaner" and find your model in the list. If there is no model, select "Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop" (Universal Profile).
- Click on “Connect to Wi-Fi” and follow the prompts.
At this point, the robot will voice-mail in Chinese (even if you've chosen a Russian region), which is normal, and then the algorithm of actions depends on the model:
| Model robot. | User action | What does a robot do? |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 1S | Press the Wi-Fi button on the case for 5 seconds until the orange indicator blinks. | It goes into conjugation mode, emits a long sound signal. |
| Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro | Hold the power button + Home for 3 seconds. | Says "Wi-Fi connected" in English, flashes blue. |
| Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop E10 | Press the Wi-Fi button 1 time. If it doesn't work, hold on for 8 seconds. | The indicator flashes green, then white. |
If the robot does not go into pairing mode, check:
- 🔌 Does it come from the base (the indicator on the base should burn green).
- 📵 Is the phone on the “In the plane” or “Energy saving” mode (they block Wi-Fi).
- 🔄 Are you trying to connect to a guest network or VPN.
Make sure the robot is charged ≥20 percent |
Select 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network |
Turn off VPN/proxy on your phone |
Reboot the router (if the robot can’t see the network)|
Update the Mi Home app to the latest version-->
Step 4: Solving Typical Connection Errors
Even if you follow the instructions accurately, the robot can make errors.
Error: “Device offline” after connecting
Causes and solutions:
- 🔌 The robot is not based: some models (e.g. Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Lite) disconnect from Wi-Fi when cleaning. Return it to base and wait for the connection (up to 5 minutes).
- 📡 Weak Wi-Fi signal: Check the signal strength at the base location. ≤ 2 divisions – move the router or use a repeater.
- ⚙️ Conflict IP-Addresses: In the router settings, turn on DHCP and reserve IP robot-on MAC-address (you will find it on the sticker under the cover).
Error: "Can't add the device" (code -2 or -4)
This means that the robot cannot connect to Xiaomi servers, and there are two types of problems:
- Geolocation locking: if your IP-address from Russia, but the account is registered in Europe, the servers may refuse to connect. VPN login.
- Outdated firmware: 2020-2021 models require an update via Mi Home → Device Profile → Software Update. If the update does not start, download the firmware manually from the official website (select the version for your region!).
⚠️ Warning: If the robot was previously linked to another Xiaomi account, it must be reset. + 10 seconds, until the double signal sounds, after reset, all maps and settings will be deleted!
💡
If the robot connects but loses communication, try turning off the “Band Steering” function in the router settings (it automatically switches devices between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, which knocks the robot down).
Step 5: Setup after connecting
Once the robot is successfully connected, it will appear in the Mi Home device list, and then you need to perform the initial setup:
- Update: Go to Device Profile → Software Update. Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro and later, beta versions of firmware with improved navigation are available, and you can turn them on in the settings.
- Calibration of sensors: Put the robot on a flat surface and select "Settings → Calibration." This takes 2-3 minutes and improves the accuracy of mapping.
- Voice setting: in Settings → Voice prompts, you can choose the language (Russian, English) or turn off the voice altogether.
For models with laser navigation (LDS), additional options are available:
- 🗺️ Save cards: Turn on “Save cards after cleaning” so that the robot remembers the layout.
- 🚫 Zones of prohibition: draw areas on the map where the robot cannot go (for example, carpets with high pile).
- 🔄 Cleaning modes: choose priority - first vacuum cleaner or first mop (relevant for Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro).
Tips for Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop E10 owners: In the settings, there is a hidden option called “Enhanced Corner Cleanup.” To activate it, go to “Additional → Cleanup Modes” and hold your finger on the screen for 5 seconds, and a hidden menu will appear.
💡
After the first connection, be sure to run a test cleaning in the “Full” mode – this will allow the robot to build a basic map of the room and avoid navigation errors in the future.
Step 6: Connect to voice assistants (Alice, Google, Siri)
Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop supports control via voice assistants, but this requires additional configuration:
Connection to Yandex Alice
- Open the Yandex app with Alice and go to Devices → Add Device.
- Select Xiaomi and sign in with the same account as you do on Mi Home.
- Allow access to smart devices.
Now you can use commands:
- 🎤 «Alice, get the robot vacuum cleaner on»
- 🎤 «Alice, put the vacuum cleaner back on base»
- 🎤 «Alice, turn on the cleaning in the living room" (if the rooms on the map are set up).
Connecting to Google Assistant
For this:
- In Mi Home, go to Profile → Settings → Voice Assistant → Google Assistant.
- Follow the instructions for linking accounts.
Google Assistant does not support Russian-language commands for the robot, only English (Hey Google, start vacuum cleaning).
⚠️ Warning: If the robot doesn't respond to voice commands, check if Remote Control is enabled in the device settings in Mi Home. Without it, voice assistants won't be able to send commands.
Step 7: Reset and reconnect the robot
If the robot stopped responding to commands or you sell it, you'll need to reset to factory settings.
| Model | Resetting method | Effects of consequences |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 1S | Hold the Wi-Fi button for 10 seconds until the double signal is heard. | Deleted cards, Wi-Fi settings, binding to the account. |
| Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro | Hold Power + Home for 8 seconds, then confirm the reset with the Wi-Fi button. | Reset firmware to the factory version. |
| Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop E10 | Press Power 5 times in a row, then hold for 3 seconds. | Maps are saved, but cleaning settings are reset. |
Once reset, the robot will flash orange, which means it's ready for a new connection. Repeat the steps in Step 3 of this instruction.
Important: If you are selling a robot, remember to untie it from your Xiaomi account in Mi Home → Device Profile → Untie. Otherwise, the new owner will not be able to connect it.
