The initial installation process often raises questions for beginners, especially when pairing a device with a router and a mobile application.

Before you get to the software part, make sure you have all the hardware you need. A video intercom requires a stable power supply and high-quality Wi-Fi signal to transmit a high-resolution video stream. Ignoring basic requirements can lead to notification delays or no communication with the device at all.
Preparation for installation and completion check
The first step is to look closely at the contents of the box. The standard set usually includes the video panel itself, the mounting plate, a set of screws and dowels, and the instructions. Some models, such as the Xiaomi Smart Doorbell 3 or the Mijia Video Doorbell 2K, can come with a removable battery that needs to be charged up to 100% before first use.
It is important to prepare a smartphone with an Android or iOS operating system in advance. To manage the device, you will need a special application that acts as the control center for the entire smart home. Without an installed and registered Mi Account account, the setup process will not be possible, since the device is tied to the manufacturer’s cloud service.
It is also critical to check your wireless network settings. Most Xiaomi video intercom models work exclusively in the 2.4 GHz frequency range. If your router only distributes 5 GHz or has a unified network name (Smart Connect), it may be difficult to find a device, in such cases it is recommended to temporarily divide the networks in the router settings or create a 2.4 GHz guest network.

Once you log in, give the app all the permissions you want: geolocation, Bluetooth, microphone, gallery, and no geolocation permission, and Bluetooth on Android devices. QR-code and search gadgets will not work due to the limitations of the operating system.

The choice of installation site is key: the camera should cover the space in front of the door and, if possible, the approach to it. If the device falls off the network, check the signal level at the installation point. A weak signal leads to a connection break and loss of data packets, in which case installing a repeater Wi-Fi closer to the front door or changing the router's broadcast channel to a less loaded one will help.
⚠️ Note: When you reset your device with the Reset button, all settings, including account binding, will be deleted. Re-association will require a full setup cycle to be reset.
Another cause of disruption could be overloading the router with a lot of connected devices. Xiaomi smart gadgets are ping sensitive. Try rebooting the router by shutting down the power for 10 seconds. Often this solves the problem of "hanging" network modules.
