Introduction: Where to start the diagnosis?
Xiaomiโs robot vacuum cleaners (including the Mi Robot, Dreame, Viomi brands) are known for their stable operation, but even they sometimes refuse to connect to Wi-Fi, a mobile application or a charging station. The reasons can be rooted in both banal user errors and hardware failures. Before carrying a device into the service, it is worth checking 10 key points, 80% of which are solved independently in 10-15 minutes.
This article is structured by type of problems, from lack of communication with the application to malfunctions of the Wi-Fi module. We will not be sprayed on general tips like โreboot the routerโ โ instead, we will analyze the unique firmware bugs of 2023-2026, specific to the Xiaomi ecosystem, and give checklists with precise steps.
1.The robot does not connect to the Mi Home/Life360 app
If the Mi Robot Vacuum (or Dreame) D9/Viomi V3) If the device is not displayed in the list of devices when you try to add, the problem is usually due to one of three reasons: incompatibility of regional servers, outdated firmware or locking. MAC-Router addresses. Let's look at each one in detail.
The first thing to check is if you have the right region in the app, for example, if you bought a vacuum cleaner in Europe, but you have a Mainland server on the Mi Home, the device simply won't appear on the list. Switch to Europe or Russia (depending on the model) and repeat the search.
- ๐ Server conflict: In Mi Home, go to Profile โ Settings โ Region and select the country corresponding to the vacuum cleaner firmware. Dreame sometimes requires Singapore.
- ๐ฑ Update the app to the latest version (at the time of 2026, Mi Home 6.5.402 or Life360 1.2.1 for Dreame).
- ๐ Lockdown MAC: Some routers (especially TP-Link with a function) AP Isolation) locks new devices. Turns it off in the router settings.
If the vacuum cleaner is still not there, try an alternative way to connect:
- Hold the Wi-Fi button on the vacuum cleaner for 5 seconds until the voice message (or the indicator flashes).
- In the app, select Add Device โ Robot Vacuum โ Your Model โ Connect Manually.
- Enter your Wi-Fi password using only Latin and numerals (Cyrillic is not supported!).
2. problems with connection to Wi-Fi: router or vacuum cleaner?
The โUnconnectedโ or endless โblinkingโ of the Wi-Fi indicator on the vacuum cleaner is a classic symptom of router incompatibility. The fact is that Xiaomi robots (especially models until 2022) do not support modern Wi-Fi 6 and WPA3 standards. If your router is running in 802.11ax mode or with WPA3-SAE encryption, the vacuum cleaner simply โwill not seeโ the network.
Decision:
- Go to the router settings (usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1).
- Switch Wi-Fi mode to 802.11n (2.4 GHz) โ Xiaomi robots do not work in the 5 GHz band!
- Set the WPA2-PSK security type (not WPA3!).
- Turn off Band Steering (if any) โ it automatically switches devices between 2.4 and 5 GHz.
| Router parameter | Recommended value | Why is it important? |
|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi range | 2.4 GHz | Xiaomi robots donโt support 5 GHz |
| Wi-Fi standard | 802.11n (or 802.11b/g/n) | 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) may not be compatible |
| Type of security | WPA2-PSK | WPA3 is not supported by older models |
| Channel width | 20 MHz | 40 MHz can cause communication breakdowns |
If after the changes the vacuum cleaner still does not connect, check whether the router is not enabled Filtration function. MAC-Add addresses. MAC-vacuum cleaner address (printed on a sticker under the lid) in the list of allowed devices.
๐ก
If you have a dual-band router, create a separate network for your router. 2.4 GHz with a simple name (e.g, Xiaomi_2G) It'll make it easier to connect.
3.The Wi-Fi indicator flashes, but the connection is not established
The endless blinking of a blue or orange Wi-Fi indicator (depending on the model) indicates that the vacuum cleaner "sees" the network but cannot complete the connection, 90% of the time it is the fault of:
- ๐ Dual authentication: If enabled on the network 802.1X Enterprise (e.g. in offices or hotels), the robot will not be able to connect.
- ๐ถ Weak signal: Signal level should not be lower -65 dBm. check in the Wi-Fi Analyzer app.
- ๐ก๏ธ Router firewall: Some routers (like Keenetic) block โunknownโ IoT devices.
- โณ Time out DHCP: If the router is long IP-address, vacuum cleaner can "reset" attempt.
Diagnosis:
- Bring the vacuum cleaner as close as possible to the router (at a distance of 1-2 meters).
- In the router settings, look for a list of connected devices (DHCP Clients or Connected Devices), and if there's a vacuum cleaner there, but the connection isn't established, the problem is the firmware.
- Try connecting to a mobile hotspot (smartphone in Modem mode), and if the vacuum cleaner connects, it's the router's fault.
Make sure the router is running 2.4 GHz|
Turn off WPA3 and switch to WPA2|
Check that the name of the network does not have spaces and special symbols |
Bring the vacuum cleaner to the router for 1-2 meters |
Reboot router and vacuum cleaner

4.Vacuum is not responding to the charging station
If the Mi Robot doesn't return to base or start charging when manually installed, the problem may be in the vacuum cleaner itself or in the docking station.
- ๐ Power: Check that the adapter is plugged into the outlet and the indicator is on at the station. D10s The indicator should be blue (green is an error!).
- ๐งฒ Contacts: Clean metal contacts on base and vacuum cleaner with an alcohol wipe. oxidation or dust may interfere with charging.
- ๐ Location: Make sure there is free space on the sides of the base (minimum 0.5 m left and right, 1.5 m front).
- ๐ Reset: Disconnect the base from the network for 30 seconds, then reconnect. On some models (Viomi) V2 Pro) hold the reset button at the station for 10 seconds.
If the base is good, but the vacuum cleaner still does not charge:
- Check the battery status. On the removable battery models (Mi Robot 1S), remove it and inspect it for bloating. Normal voltage is 14.4V.
- Start calibration of the battery: completely discharge the vacuum cleaner (before shutdown), then charge to 100% without interruptions.
- Update the firmware through the app. In older versions 3.5.8_0040 Fixed bugs with the definition of the docking station.
How to check the battery voltage without a multimeter?
5. Firmware errors and factory reset
If the vacuum cleaner has been working before, but stopped connecting after the upgrade, the fault is the software failure, most often this occurs when an interrupted update or conflict of versions of the software.
- ๐ด The indicator is constantly lit red (system error).
- ๐ฑ The app shows the status of "Offline", although the vacuum cleaner is turned on.
- ๐ Cyclical reboot (vacuum cleaner switches on and off immediately).
How to reset your settings:
- Hold the Power button (or Wi-Fi + Home on Dreame models) for 10-15 seconds until the sound of the beep.
- After the discharge, the vacuum cleaner will issue a voice message "Factory reset complete" (on Chinese firmware - ").
- Connect again as if to a new device.
If the reset didnโt help, try a forced firmware update:
- Download the latest firmware for your model from the official Mi Home website (Support โ Firmware section).
- Unpack the archive and rename the file to miio.bin (for Mi Robot) or dreame.vac (for Dreame).
- Place the file in the root of the microSD card (if your model supports the upgrade from the memory card).
- Insert the card into the vacuum cleaner and hold the Reset button for 5 seconds.
๐ก
Once discharged, the vacuum cleaner will lose all the stored maps of the premises, and if you have zoning or virtual walls configured, they will have to configuring again.
6. Hardware malfunctions: when you need help from the service
If none of the above methods worked, the problem is probably hardware.
- ๐ Wi-Fi module: Vacuum cleaner does not respond to reset, Wi-Fi indicator does not light up at all.
- ๐ Power controller: No indicator is on, vacuum cleaner is not turned on even from a direct connection to charging.
- ๐ก Wi-Fi signal is only caught in the vicinity of the router (less than 1 meter).
- ๐ ๏ธ Control fee: The vacuum cleaner is turned on but does not respond to buttons and commands from the app.
What you can do on your own:
- Disassemble the vacuum cleaner (on most models, the cover is attached to 4 Torx T5 screws) and check if the plumes have disconnected from the Wi-Fi module.
- Call the Wi-Fi multimeter (VCC and GND are usually signed on the board) and the normal voltage is 3.3V.
- If the board shows burned elements (blackened resistors, bloated capacitors), contact the service.
โ ๏ธ Note: On Xiaomi Mi Robot 2 and newer models, the Wi-Fi module is soldered to the main board. Trying to replace it without a soldering station can damage the tracks.
The cost of repairs in official Xiaomi services (for 2026):
| Type of repair | Cost (โฝ) | Date(s) |
|---|---|---|
| Replacement of Wi-Fi module | 2 500 โ 3 800 | 3โ5 |
| Management board repair | 4 000 โ 7 000 | 7โ10 |
| Battery replacement | 3 200 โ 5 500 | 2โ3 |
7. Specific model bugs 2023-2026
Xiaomi's new robot vacuum cleaners (Mi Robot X10+, DreameBot X30 Ultra) have received updated Wi-Fi modules, but also new bugs.
- ๐ Cyclical reboot after updating to firmware 4.6.1_0080 (corrected 4.6.2). Solution: Reverse to the previous version via Mi Home.
- ๐ฑ iOS 17 incompatible: Mi Home app may not see vacuum cleaner due to Bluetooth bug LE. Solution: Use an Android smartphone to set up your initial setup.
- ๐ Geolocation Blocking: On Models for China (CN-version may be required VPN with access to Singapore or Hong Kong for connection.
For DreameBot X30 Ultra, there is a problem with dual authentication in the Dreamehome app. If you add a device with an error called โAuthentication failedโ, follow the following steps:
- Remove the application and install it again.
- When registering, use an email, not a phone number.
- Enable the USB debugging permission in the smartphone settings (for Android).
