Xiaomi 360° cameras have become one of the most popular smart video surveillance solutions thanks to the combination of affordable prices, wide viewing angle and integration with the Mi Home ecosystem. However, even experienced users sometimes have difficulties with the initial setup: the device does not connect to Wi-Fi, the application does not see the camera, or the image is transmitted with a delay. In this article, we will analyze all the current ways of connecting (via smartphone, router, cloud), and give recommendations for eliminating typical errors.
The Xiaomi Mi Home Security Camera 360° 1080p/2K features two-way audio, night vision and a rotary mechanism that spans 360° horizontally and 108° vertically. But to enable all of these features, the camera needs to be properly integrated into the home network. We will look at a unique connection algorithm for firmwares from 2023-2026 that differs from outdated instructions (for example, they often lack a step with a server region-specific link).
1. Connection Preparation: What to Check Before Installation
Before you start setting up, make sure that all components of the system meet the requirements, most often problems arise due to incompatibility of the camera firmware with the application version or inappropriate router parameters.
Here is the mandatory checklist before connecting:
- 📱 Smartphone: Android 6.0+/iOS 12+ The latest version of the Mi Home app (you can download it from Google Play or App Store).
- 📶 Wi-Fi router: Must operate in the 2.4 GHz band (5 GHz is not supported by most Xiaomi 360 models°). The Xiaomi Home Security Camera Series 2K Pros that are compatible with both bands.
- 🔌 Power: Use only the original power supply (5V/1A or 5V/2A depending on the model. Connect via USB-Hub or uncertified adapters may cause failures.
- 🌍 Region in Mi Home: link your account to Russia (or China if you bought a camera on AliExpress.
Install Mi Home with the latest version
Switch router to 2.4 GHz
Connect the camera to the original PD
Select the region "Russia" in the account settings
Place the camera in the Wi-Fi coverage area (not further than 10 m from the router)
-->
If your router is running in dual mode (2.4 GHz) + 5 GHz with one network name, temporarily disable 5 GHz in the router settings. Many Xiaomi cameras do not automatically select the range and "hang" during the connection stage. MAC-Addresses and protocols are on DHCP (Otherwise, the camera won't get IP-address).
⚠️ Note: If you bought the camera from overseas locations (e.g. Banggood or Gearbest), it may be linked to a Chinese server, in which case, when adding the device, select China, even if your account is registered in Russia. After the connection, the region can be changed.
2. Step-by-step instructions: how to connect Xiaomi 360° via Mi Home
The main way to set up is through the official Mi Home app. Follow the instructions strictly in order to avoid synchronization errors.
Steps for connection:
- Turn on the camera, plug in the power supply, wait for the "Ding-dong" beep and the yellow light flash.
- Launch Mi Home: Open the app and log in. Press + → Add device.
- Select a category: tap on the Cameras → Xiaomi Mi Home Security Camera 360° (or your model).
- Scan. QR-Code: point the smartphone camera at QR-The code that is on the bottom of the camera body (under a tripod). If the scan fails, click "Enter the code manually" and enter the 8-digit number from the sticker.
- Connect to the Wi-Fi camera: after scanning, the smartphone will automatically connect to the camera’s temporary network (the name will be of the type). Xiaomi_XXXX). Back at Mi Home.
- Select your home network: enter your Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz only!) and enter your password. Wait until sync is complete (up to 3 minutes).
- Set up the location: Assign a name to the camera (such as “The Hallway”) and select a room in the house.
💡
If the camera doesn’t connect to Wi-Fi in step 5, restart the router and try again, sometimes changing the Wi-Fi channel in the router settings helps (we recommend channels 1, 6 or 11).
Once you've successfully connected, the app will show a camera image. Check the quality of the broadcast and the microphone (click on the microphone icon in the upper right corner of the screen). If the image is interrupted, try:
- 📶 Move the camera closer to the router (optimally - no further than 5-7 meters).
- 🔄 Restart the camera (turn off power for 10 seconds).
- 🛠️ In the router settings, disable "Safe Mode" or "Filtration by" MAC».
3. Alternative ways of connecting
If the standard Mi Home method didn't work, try alternatives, which are especially useful for cameras with Chinese firmware or devices purchased on the secondary market.
Method 1: Connect via Mi Home (Chinese version)
Some Xiaomi models (e.g. Mi Home Security Camera 360° 2K) require the Chinese version of the Mi Home app to be connected for the first time. Download the APK from the official website (e.g. home.mi.com) and follow the instructions:
- Install Mi Home CN (Chinese version)
- Create a new account with China (+86).
- Add the camera through QR-code as described above.
- Once connected, reconnect the camera to your main account via Device Settings → Sharing.
Method 2: Connect via Xiaomi Home (new app)
In 2023, Xiaomi began the transition to a new Xiaomi Home app (replacing the Mi Home). If your camera is a fresh model (like the Xiaomi Camera 2K Pro), try:
- Download Xiaomi Home from the app store.
- Log in and press + → Add Device → Camera.
- Choose your model and follow the hints (the algorithm is similar to Mi Home, but with an updated interface).

Method 3: Connect via Ethernet (for models with Ethernet) LAN-port)
Xiaomi Mi Home Security Camera 360° 2K Pro and some others support Ethernet connection. This is true if the Wi-Fi in your home is unstable.
- Connect the camera to the router via LAN-cable.
- In Mi Home, add the device as usual (via QR-code).
- At the stage of network selection, tap “Connect by cable” (the option will appear automatically).
⚠️ Note: When connecting via Ethernet, make sure the router has disabled the protocol IPv6 — Some Xiaomi models are not working with it correctly, which leads to broadcast interruptions.
4. Set up cloud storage and recording
By default, the Xiaomi 360° camera only records when motion is detected, but long-term video storage will require cloud storage or a local memory card.
Here's how to set up a record:
- 📁 Local Storage: Insert a microSD card (up to the end) 64 GB, class. 10) To the slot on the camera body. In Mi Home, go to Camera Settings → Storage" and select "Record to card. Set the mode: "Continuous recording» — 24/7 (fill out 2–3 "Only by movement" saves space.
- ☁️ Xiaomi Cloud: 7 days of history are available free of charge (with a limit on the number of events (₽)Basic 30 days1997 days of history Standard 30 days39930 days of Premium history365 days2 999 Unlimited history
To enable traffic alerts:
- Go to “Camera Settings → Alerts”.
- Activate the "Motion Detection" switch.
- Set up “Activity Zones” (for example, eliminate the window so that it does not work on passing cars).
- Choose the notification method: push notifications, email or phone call.
