Xiaomi’s 360° camera has become one of the most popular video surveillance solutions in the home, office or countryside, combining affordable pricing, high quality shooting and integration with the Mi Home ecosystem, allowing you to control it from a smartphone from anywhere in the world, but many users face difficulties in the first connection stage: the camera does not find the network, the application gives an error, or the image is transmitted with a delay.
In this article, we will discuss all the ways to connect 360-degree cameras Xiaomi (including models Mi Home Security Camera 360° 1080p, Mi 360° Home Security Camera 2K and Xiaomi Smart Camera C400), look at the typical errors and give recommendations for optimization of work.
Xiaomi models support 360-degree video surveillance
Not all cameras are equipped with a circular view function, and the following are the current models (2026) that support 360° shooting and are suitable for video surveillance systems:
- 📷 Mi Home Security Camera 360° 1080p — base model with full resolution HD, night vision up to 9 m and support for microSD cards up to 64 GB.
- 📷 Mi 360° Home Security Camera 2K — resolution-enhanced version 2304×1296, two-way audio communication and extended viewing angle.
- 📷 Xiaomi Smart Camera C400 — flagship model with 2K-permission, support AI-Facial recognition and integration with Google Assistant.
- 📷 Xiaomi Mi Home Security Camera P1 — Budget option with a rotary mechanism, but without support for 5 GHz Wi-Fi.
Important: models without the 360° mark in the title (e.g. Mi Home Security Camera Basic) have a fixed viewing angle and are not suitable for circular surveillance. Also note regional firmware - some cameras purchased in China may not support Russian-language interface or work with restrictions in the Mi Home app.
Preparation for connection: what will be needed
Before you start setting up, make sure you have everything you need:
- 📱 Smartphone on Android 6.0+ or iOS 10.0+ with Mi Home installed (you can download it from Google Play or App Store).

- Go to the router settings (usually at 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1).
- Activate 2.4 GHz mode or enable dual mode (if the router supports both frequencies).
- Embezzlement of networks 2.4 GHz is a unique name (for example, MyWiFi_2G), avoiding conflict.
Install the Mi Home app|Connect the camera to power|Check Wi-Fi range (2.4 GHz)|Prepare a memory card (if necessary)-->
Method 1: Connect via Mi Home (step-by-step instruction)
This is the easiest and most recommended method.
- Step 1: Place the camera on a flat surface or fix it on the wall (if you use a bracket), connect it to the network using a power adapter, and wait for the beep ("Welcome" in Chinese or English).
- Step 2. Open the Mi Home app, log in (or sign up) and select the region of Russia (important for proper operation!). Click + → Add Device.
- Step 3: In the search box, type the model name (e.g., Mi Home Security Camera 360°) or select Cameras category. Click on your model.
- Step 4. The app will prompt you to scan. QR-code from the camera body or enter it manually. The code is usually on the bottom of the device or in the instructions.

What if the Mi Home can’t find the camera?
Method 2: Connecting over a local area network (without a cloud)
If you don’t want to use Xiaomi cloud storage or you don’t have a stable internet connection, you can set up your camera to work on your local network, a method that is suitable for viewing videos only on your home network (for example, via a smartphone connected to the same router).
- Connect the camera to the power and wait for its initialization.
- In the Mi Home app, add the device (as in method 1), but select the Connect to LAN option (if available) at the network selection stage.
- After connecting, go to the camera settings (“Device Settings” → “Network”) and turn off the option “Cloud Storage”.
- To watch videos outside the home, you will need to set up port port port port port port port port porting on the router or use a VPN.
Restrictions of local regime:
- ⚠️ No access to video from the outside without additional router settings.
- ⚠️ Traffic notifications may be delayed.
- ⚠️ No backup of records to the cloud.
💡
If you need remote surveillance without cloud, consider installing a cloud-based system. NAS-server (e.g. Synology or Raspberry Pi) for storing camera records.
Method 3: Connecting through Third Party Applications (RTSP)
For power users, it is possible to connect Xiaomi’s camera to third-party video surveillance systems (e.g. Blue Iris, iSpy, Synology Surveillance Station) via the RTSP protocol.
- 🔄 Integrate the camera into a single system with other devices.
- 💾 Save records to your own server.
- 📊 Use advanced video analysis features (e.g., car license recognition).
Instructions for setting up RTSP:
- Turn it on. RTSP-Protocol in camera settings: go to Mi Home → Settings of the device → Additionally. → Protocol RTSP and activate it.
- Copy. RTSP-URL (usually rtsp://[IP_camera]/live/ch00_0).
- Enter this address in your video surveillance system. Example for Synology Surveillance Station: rtsp://192.168.1.100/live/ch00_0 Port port: 554 Login/password: admin/password from camera (if installed)
Not all Xiaomi models support RTSP. For example, the Mi Home Security Camera 360° 1080p may require firmware from third-party developers (e.g., Dafang-Hacks).
💡
Use of the RTSP Disables some Mi Home features, such as cloud notifications and AI-recognition.
Common mistakes and their solutions
Even with the right connection, users often encounter problems, and the table below shows the most common errors and ways to fix them:
