Voice control of smart equipment has long ceased to be a fantasy β today you can start cleaning in a few words, without leaving the business. Robot vacuum cleaners Xiaomi (including models Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro, Xiaomi Dreame Bot and others) perfectly integrate with Alice from Yandex, but this requires the right setup of the ecosystem. Many users face problems at the stage of synchronizing devices or can not force Alice to recognize commands β in this article we will analyze the process from A to Z, including hidden nuances and workarounds for typical errors.
It is important to understand that there is no direct interaction between Mi Home (the official Xiaomi app) and Alice β communication is done through Yandex Smart Home. This means that you will have to configure three components at once: the vacuum cleaner itself, the Xiaomi account and Yandex services. If even one element of the configured chain is not correct, voice commands will not work. We will analyze each step in detail, pay attention to the hidden settings in Mi Home, which are often missed in standard instructions, and show how to check the systemβs performance before the first voice launch.
1.Preparation: What it takes to manage Xiaomi through Alice
Before you start setting up, make sure you have everything you need. Without these components, synchronization is impossible.
- π± Smartphone on Android/iOS with Mi Home (or Xiaomi Home for new models) and Yandex (with Smart Home support) installed).
- π€ Xiaomi cloud-sync-enabled robot vacuum cleaner (most models after 2018) Check your model's compatibility in the cloud FAQ.
- π Stable Internet connection on frequency 2.4 GHz (Xiaomi vacuum cleaners do not work with the 5 GHz!) The router must support the protocol. 802.11 b/g/n.
- π Xiaomi account (preferably with a phone number attached) and Yandex account (with Smart Home feature enabled).
If you chose Mainland China server when registering a vacuum cleaner, Alice will not be able to see it.
- Remove the device from the Mi Home app.
- Change the region to Russia or Europe in the profile settings.
- Add the vacuum cleaner again by selecting the right server.
β οΈ Note: If your vacuum cleaner was purchased in China and sewn for the local region, you may need to flash it to a global version of the software.
Also check the vacuum cleaner firmware version.Outdated versions (e.g., below) 3.5.8_003006 Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop P may not support integration with third-party platforms. β Update firmware in Mi Home.
2. Mi Home setup: vacuum cleaner binding to Xiaomi account
The first step is to add the vacuum cleaner to Xiaomiβs ecosystem correctly, and even if the device is already connected, check the settings with this instruction:
- Download Mi Home from the App Store or Google Play for new models (2023)+ Xiaomi Home may be required.
- Sign-in/registration: Sign in with the same account that will be used to sync with Yandex.
- Adding device: Press + β Addition of a device β Robot vacuum cleaner. Select your model from the list (if not, try another device.) β Follow the instructions on the screen: turn on the vacuum cleaner, wait for the beep and connect to its Wi-Fi network (mirobot-XXXXX).
Network setup
2.4 GHz
5 GHz
Once the connection is successful, the vacuum cleaner will appear in the Mi Home main menu, and you will need to configure cloud access:
- Go to the device card β Settings (βοΈ) β General settings β Cloud platform.
- Activate the Mi Home App Cloud Service (or similar for your model).
- Make sure the synchronization status is connected.
β οΈ Note: Some models (e.g. Dreame Bot) L10 Pro) require additional activation of Remote Control in the Settings menu β Without it, Alice won't be able to send commands.
If the vacuum cleaner does not connect to Wi-Fi, check:
- π Restart router and vacuum cleaner (hold power button for 10 seconds).
- πΆ Make sure the network signal is sufficient (the vacuum cleaner should be standing next to the router during the setup stage).
- π Temporarily turn off the filter. MAC-Addresses and Protection from Connecting New Devices in the Router.

3. Connecting Xiaomi to Yandex Smart Home
Now, you need to link your Xiaomi account to Yandex services, a step that often causes errors due to the non-obvious nuances of authorization.
- Open the Yandex app (or the web version of home.yandex.ru) and go to the Smart Home section.
- Adding service: Click + β Add the device β Xiaomi. Enter your Mi Home account login and password (use the same one the vacuum cleaner is attached to!) Confirm access by following the instructions on the screen. If you fail to log in, check: Correctness of the entered data (registrar matters!). No two-factor authentication (if enabled, temporarily disable it in Mi Account settings) Account region (should match the region selected when adding a vacuum cleaner).
Selection of devices
Add
If the vacuum cleaner is not displayed in the list of Xiaomi devices:
- π Reboot the vacuum cleaner and wait until it connects to Wi-Fi again.
- π± Remove and add it again to Mi Home, making sure cloud sync is enabled.
- π Check that Mi Home has the right home (if you have multiple locations) and Yandex only syncs with devices from the main home.
After adding the vacuum cleaner will appear in the list of devices Yandex Smart Home. Now it can be controlled through the application Yandex, but to work with Alice you need to take another step β set up a voice assistant.
π‘
If when you log in to Xiaomi in Yandex there is an error "Service temporarily unavailable", try using the VPN It's a problem with servers in Russia or Europe, sometimes it's a geo-blocking problem.
4.Alice's setup to control the vacuum cleaner
In order for Alice to recognize the commands for the vacuum cleaner, it is necessary:
- Activate the skill: Open the Yandex app and go to Alice β Skills: Find Yandex Smart Home and activate it (if itβs not already connected).
- Attach the device to the room (optional, but recommended for precise control): At Yandex Smart Home, go to the vacuum cleaner card. β Select the appropriate room (such as the living room or kitchen).
- Set up aliases (if Alice doesn't recognize the device name): In the vacuum cleaner card, click Settings β Add alternative names, like vacuum cleaner, robot, janitor.
Now you can test voice commands, and there's some of the phrases that Alice understands.
- π€ Alice, turn on the vacuum cleaner - start cleaning.
- π€ Alice, bring the vacuum cleaner back to base - back to the docking station.
- π€ Alice, put the vacuum cleaner on charge - an alternative command for return.
- π€ Alice, stop cleaning the living room if the vacuum cleaner is tied to the room.
If Alice answers I can't find such a device:
- π Reboot the Yandex application and repeat the command.
- π Check that the device's aliases are set correctly (without typos).
- π Make sure the vacuum cleaner is currently connected to the Internet (the green network indicator should be on in Mi Home).
β οΈ Attention: Alice doesn't support complex commands like "Alice, kitchen only vacuumed" for zoning, using the Mi Home app or setting up virtual walls in a cleaning map.
5. Advanced settings: scripts and automation
Voice control is just the tip of the iceberg, and with Yandex Smart Home, you can configure automatic scripts, like:
- π Scheduled cleaning: Starting the vacuum cleaner on weekdays at 10:00 if no one is home (using smartphone geolocation).
- π Synchronization with other devices: Turning on the vacuum cleaner at the same time as the smart socket that supplies power to the docking station.
- π‘οΈ Sensor response: Start cleaning when dust levels rise (if there is a compatible air quality sensor).
To create a script:
- In Yandex Smart Home go to the scripts β Create a script.
- Select a Terms (e.g. Time or Geolocation).
- Add Action: Device management β Xiaomi β [vacuumer] β Turn on cleaning.
- Save the script and activate it.
An example of a complex scenario:
| Conditions | Action 1 | Action 2 | Action 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Time: 09:00, weekdays | Geolocation Check: All Family Members Are Not Home | Activate vacuum cleaner (Mode: quiet) | Send notification: "The cleaning has begun" |
| Level. COβ > 800 ppm (Aqara sensor) | Open the window (smart drive) | Start the vacuum cleaner (Mode: Turbo) | Insert air purifier |
| Charging the vacuum cleaner < 20% | Send the team back to base. | Notification: "Vacuum cleaner discharged" | β |
For the operation of scenarios with geolocation it is necessary:
- Enable Location History in the settings of the Yandex account.
- Add family members to the Household (in Yandex Smart Home).
- Set up a home zone (geo-fence radius around the house).
How to check the script without waiting for a trigger?
Typical problems and their solutions
Even with the right setup, there can be failures, and let's look at the most common errors and how to fix them:
| Problem. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Alice can't see the vacuum cleaner. | Xiaomi account is not synchronized with Yandex | Remove and add Xiaomi service again to Yandex Smart Home |
| Commands are executed with a delay | Vacuum cleaner connected to Xiaomi remote server (China) | Change the region to Russia in Mi Home and reconnect the device |
| Vacuum doesn't respond to commands | Cloud management is disabled in Mi Home | Enable Mi Home App Cloud Service in the vacuum cleaner settings |
| Xiaomi authorization error in Yandex | Two-factor authentication or VPN | Turn it off. 2FA In Mi Account, use Russian IP |
| Alice says "the device is unresponsive" | Offline vacuum cleaner or Wi-Fi problems | Restart the vacuum cleaner and router, check the connection to 2.4 GHz |
If none of the methods helped, try resetting the vacuum cleaner settings:
- Press and hold the Home and Power buttons on the vacuum cleaner body 5-10 seconds before the beep.
- After reset, add the device again to Mi Home, following the instructions in Section 2.
For Dreame Bot models (e.g. DreameBot) L10 Pro) a separate Dreamehome application may be required:
- Install Dreamehome and log in to the same Xiaomi account.
- Add a vacuum cleaner to Dreamehome, then sync your account with Yandex (similar to Mi Home).
π‘
If you connect the vacuum cleaner via Dreamehome, choose Dreame over Xiaomi in Yandex Smart Home. These are two different integration modules!
7. Alternative management methods (if Alice does not work)
If voice control via Alice is fundamentally unconfigurable (for example, due to regional restrictions), consider alternatives:
- π± Mi Home app: Full vacuum cleaner control, including zoning, suction schedule and settings.
- π£οΈ Voice assistants Google/Alexa: For Google Assistant: connect Xiaomi via Google Home (requires a Xiaomi account with the Europe region). for Amazon Alexa: use the Mi Home skill in the Alexa app.
- βοΈ Local. API Home Assistant (for advanced users): Install Home Assistant on Raspberry Pi or NAS. Set up integration with Xiaomi through the component xiaomi_miio. Create automation with time triggers, sensors, or voice (via Rhasspy or Yandex Station).
To connect to Home Assistant, you'll need a device token to get it:
- Install the Mi Home Token Extractor app (Android required).
- Sign in with your Xiaomi account.
- Find your vacuum cleaner in the list of devices and copy the token.
- Add the token to the Home Assistant: Vacuum: - Platform configuration file: xiaomi_miio host: [IP-vacuum cleaner address] token: [your token]
The advantages of Home Assistant:
- π Local management without depending on the cloud Xiaomi.
- π Advanced analytics (e.g. cleaning time schedules).
- π€ Integration with other systems (e.g. sending notifications to Telegram when cleaning is completed).
β οΈ Note: Using informal methods (such as Home Assistant) can violate the vacuum warranty.
