Modern Honor smartphones have powerful displays and excellent performance, but for comfortable viewing of content in the company or to show photos often lacks a large screen. Owners of Xiaomi equipment often face the question of integrating devices from different ecosystems, as direct “native” interaction is not always obvious here. However, wireless data standards make it easy to overcome these barriers and enjoy content on a large display.
The main difficulty is that Honor (especially newer models without Google services) and Xiaomi use different software shells and default protocols. However, basic technologies such as Miracast and DLNA remain the universal language of communication between gadgets. In this article, we will discuss all working methods, from built-in system functions to third-party applications that guarantee stable connection.
Before we get to the settings, it’s worth noting that the quality of the broadcast depends on the speed of your Wi-Fi router. High-resolution video transmission requires both devices to be on the same 5GHz Wi-Fi subnet, since 2.4GHz may not provide enough bandwidth for a picture without delay. Ignoring this requirement will lead to constant buffering and desynchronization of sound.
Device Preparation and Network Requirements
The first step in the setup process is to organize the network environment correctly, and many users make the mistake of connecting their phone to the mobile Internet and their TV to their home network, or using a guest Wi-Fi network with client isolation, and to successfully transmit a signal, both devices must "see" each other at the local network level.
Check that your Xiaomi Mi TV or Android TV Box has Wi-Fi enabled and is active. Some TV models require you to manually activate the signal reception mode, which can be called differently depending on the Android TV or PatchWall firmware version. Without this step, the phone simply will not detect the target device when scanning.
It’s also important to make sure that the permissions are enabled on the Honor smartphone. The Magic UI or HarmonyOS system can block device search in the background to save power.Go to the settings and make sure geolocation is enabled, as it’s often used to detect devices on the LAN.
⚠️ Note: If your router distributes two networks with the same name (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), try switching one device to another frequency. Sometimes the router algorithms incorrectly route data packets between clients of different frequencies, even if they are on the same network.
Connection stability is key, if you're planning to broadcast heavy 4K video, make sure the Wi-Fi signal is strong. Use a wired connection for the TV through LAN-cable will significantly improve the situation by reducing the load on the wireless channel.
Use of the built-in function "screen projection"
The easiest and fastest way to display an image is to use the standard Android functionality found in the Honor shell, which is based on the Miracast (Wi-Fi Direct) standard, which allows you to stream video directly bypassing the router or through it, depending on the implementation.
To start the process, lower the notification curtain on Honor and find a tile called Screen Projection, Wireless Projector, or Translation. If it is not available quickly, click on a pencil or edit button to add it from the full list of available widgets.
☑️ Pre-broadcast checks
Once activated, the phone will start searching for available devices, and Xiaomi TVs may have a request for permission to connect at that time, and you need to select it with a remote to confirm pairing, and the image from the phone will instantly appear on the big screen.
It's important to understand the difference between duplication and expansion. In duplication, the TV screen completely copies the actions on the phone, including notifications and calls. This is convenient for demonstrating the application interface, but not always suitable for watching video, since the phone screen must be constantly on, which consumes battery.
⚠️ Note: When using the built-in screen projection, the sound can be transmitted with a delay. This can be critical for watching movies, so this method is better used for displaying photos, presentations or application interfaces.
If the search is not working, try restarting the Wi-Fi module on both devices, and sometimes the network stack freezes and stops responding to broadcast device discovery requests.
Set up Chromecast via Google Home app
For Xiaomi TVs running on Android TV, native support has the technology Chromecast built-in. This is a more advanced protocol developed by Google, which allows you to broadcast content from applications (YouTube, Netflix, Kinopoisk) directly, using the phone only as a remote control.
To work with this method, the Honor phone must have a Google Home app installed. Since new Honor models may not have Google services out of the box, you’ll need to install it. APK-Manually use the Gbox/Gspace Store to install Google Play services.
Once installed, open the Google Home app. It will automatically scan the network and find your Xiaomi TV. Click on the device icon, then select the "Cast my screen" button. The picture quality in this mode is usually higher, and the sound latency is minimal.
What if Google Home doesn’t see TV?
The advantage of the Chromecast over Miracast is that the phone doesn't load with video decoding. You can fold the app, respond to a message, or even turn off the smartphone screen -- playback on the TV will continue. This is ideal for long-term movie watching.
However, it is worth remembering that not all applications support this protocol, and some Russian services may block transmission to external displays due to DRM licensing restrictions.
Streaming via Xiaomi Mi Remote or Mi TV Assistant
Xiaomi’s ecosystem offers native content management tools that can be useful if standard methods are not working well. Although the Mi Remote app is primarily designed to manage the remote, in some versions and regions it contains features for transferring media files.
A more effective solution is to use the MI Remote app in conjunction with the Media feature in your TV, so you can upload photos or videos to your phone’s memory, open them through the file manager, and select the Translate or DLNA option, then select your TV from the renderer list.
This is particularly good for viewing personal archives of photos and videos captured with Honor. Xiaomi TV in this case acts as a network player, decoding the file itself, which takes the load off the phone's processor and ensures maximum picture quality.
The app interface may vary depending on the Android version and the installation region. If you don't find the right button, try using the standard Android gallery, which often has a built-in "Cast" button in the top corner when viewing media files.
The disadvantage of this is that there's no full-blown interface duplication, and you can't show your friends how you browse through social media, but it's one of the most stable solutions for viewing the library.
Use of third-party broadcasting applications
If regular funds fail or work with errors, specialized applications from the Google Play store or AppGallery come to the rescue, the leaders in this niche are Web Video Caster, LocalCast and BubbleUPnP.
The Web Video Caster app deserves special attention, allowing you to open videos from any site in the app's built-in browser and send a video stream directly to the TV, which bypasses many of the restrictions and blockages that you encounter when trying to stream through your phone's built-in browser.
To install the application on the TV, you may need to find it in the “Applications” section on the TV itself or install it. APK-file via flash drive, after installation on both devices (or using the protocol) DLNA/Chromecast) linkage is set in one click.
| Annex | Type of connection | Support for subtitles | Difficulty setting up |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Home | Chromecast | Automatically. | Low. |
| Web Video Caster | DLNA / Chromecast | Manual / Auto | Medium |
| Mi TV Assistant | Proprietary | No. | Low. |
| BubbleUPnP | DLNA / Chromecast | Yes. | Tall. |
Using third-party software gives you more control over buffering and stream quality, and in the settings of such applications, you can often choose a transcoding codec or allow background work to go off the phone screen while you view it.
⚠️ Note: When installing third-party APK-Always check for viruses, use only proven high-rated applications in official stores.
Wired connection via USB-C to HDMI adapter
For those who want the highest image quality without any compression or delay, there is a wired method. Honor smartphones equipped with a USB Type-C port with support for the MHL standard or DisplayPort Alt Mode can transmit video directly through the cable.
You will need a dedicated USB-C to HDMI adapter. One end connects to the phone, the other to the free HDMI port on your Xiaomi TV. The TV must be switched to Source mode by selecting the appropriate HDMI port.
This method ensures native resolution, up to 4K at 60Hz, if your phone and cable support such performance, and you can connect your keyboard, mouse and charge your phone at the same time via the hub, turning your smartphone into a full-fledged computer.
💡
When buying an adapter, make sure it supports video output. Cheap charging cables often don't have the necessary contacts to transmit a video signal. Look for a "4K support" or "Video Output" label.
Not all Honor models support video output via USB-C. Budget series (such as some Y or Lite series models) may have a USB 2.0 charging and data port only.
The wired connection is ideal for gaming, as there is virtually no input lag. For wireless methods, even in the best conditions, the delay is 0.5 to 2 seconds, making it uncomfortable to play dynamic shooters or races.
Addressing problems and delays
Even with the right setup, users may encounter artifacts, sound dissynchronization, or intermittent connection breaks, most often the problem lies in Wi-Fi overload, especially if the router is in an apartment with many neighborhood networks.
Try changing your Wi-Fi channel to a less congested router. Using 5GHz is a must for a comfortable broadcast. If the router is dual-band and combines networks under one name (Smart Connect), try temporarily splitting them by giving different names (SSID), and connect the TV and phone strictly to a 5GHz network.
Another cause of failures can be the phone's energy-saving settings. Honor aggressively kills background processes. Go to Settings -> Battery -> Launch apps and find the app that is streaming through (such as YouTube or Google Home). Turn off automatic control and allow it to work in the background.
💡
The broadcast stability is 90% dependent on the quality of the Wi-Fi signal and the absence of interference in the air. Use 5 GHz and bring the router closer to the devices for diagnosis.
If the sound is behind the video, try looking for the “Audio Lag” or “Lip Sync” settings in Xiaomi TV settings and tweaking it. In some cases, switching the audio format in the app settings on the TV from “Volume Sound” to “Stereo” helps, as the TV processor may not have enough power to decode complex codecs on the fly.
