Xiaomi’s robot vacuum cleaners have long been an integral part of smart homes, but their first smartphone connection is often a question for users. Even if you bought the Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro or the budget Mi Robot Vacuum E10, the process of pairing through the Mi Home app remains almost identical – with nuances for different firmware versions and regions. In this article, we will examine all the steps from preparing devices to solving typical errors such as “failed to connect to the network” or “device offline”.
The main problem that newcomers face is that regional versions of the app are not compatible with the vacuum cleaner model. For example, if you bought a robot in China and you have a European version of the Mi Home app, the connection may not work, we will show you how to get around this restriction without changing the region in your account, and you will learn how to configure voice control through Alice or Google Assistant after successful pairing.
1.Preparation for connection: what to check before starting
Before you start pairing, make sure that the basic conditions are met:
- 📱 Smartphone on Android 6.0+ or iOS 12.0+ (Older versions may not have enough Bluetooth 4.2 support).
- 🤖 Robot vacuum cleaner charged at least 20% (at low charge, it will refuse to turn on the Wi-Fi module).
- 📶 The router operates at 2.4 GHz (5 GHz not supported by most Xiaomi models).
- 🔒 The Wi-Fi password does not contain Cyrillic or special characters (e.g, #, $).
Pay special attention to the region of the account Mi. If you bought a vacuum cleaner in China, and the Mi Home application selected the region “Russia”, the device may not appear in the list of available, in which case you will have to temporarily change the region to “China” (more about this in the section on errors).
Also check if the vacuum cleaner is connected to another phone, and if so, reset it to factory settings: press the power button for 10 seconds until you hear the beep, and after the reset, the indicator on the case will flash orange, which means that the device is ready for a new setup.
2. Installation and configuration of the Mi Home app
The official application for managing the robot vacuum cleaners Xiaomi - Mi Home (for Europe) or Mi Home Lite (lightweight version for China).
- 🤖 Google Play (Android)
- 🍎 App Store (iOS)
After installation:
- Launch the application and select a region (importantly! – it should coincide with the region of the vacuum cleaner sale).
- Sign up or sign in through an existing Xiaomi account (you can use Google, Facebook or phone number).
- Press "+" → "Add device" in the upper right corner.
If you already have other Xiaomi devices (such as light bulbs or sockets), the app may suggest adding a vacuum cleaner to an existing "room"; it is better to create a new room specifically for it - it will be easier to manage the cleaning area later.
💡
If the Mi Home app doesn’t find a vacuum cleaner, try restarting Bluetooth on your phone or temporarily disabling the VPN – it can block the connection to Xiaomi servers.
3. Step-by-step instructions for connecting the vacuum cleaner
When you have completed your preparation, follow this algorithm:
- Turn on the vacuum cleaner: press and hold the power button on the case until the beep (usually 3-5 seconds) The indicator should flash white.
- Activate pairing mode: simultaneously press the Home and Food buttons for 5 seconds until you hear a voice message in Chinese (this is normal).
- Select a model in the app: in Mi Home tap “Robot vacuum cleaner” → select your model (if it is not in the list, try “Other”).
- Connect to Wi-Fi vacuum cleaner: the phone will automatically switch to a network type MiRobot_XXXX. Back in the app.
- Select your home network: Enter your Wi-Fi password (2.4GHz only!).
If it's a success, the vacuum cleaner will emit a long beep, and the app will have its current status card, and you can start setting up.

4.Configure after connecting: what to do first
After pairing, we recommend to perform the basic settings:
- 🗺️ Room map: Run the first cleaning in Full mode so that the vacuum cleaner can make a map. 15-30 minute.
- 🔊 Voice Packages: Download the Russian-language package in Settings → Voice prompts (if available for your model).
- 🔄 Update firmware: check the relevance of the software in Settings → New versions often fix connection errors.
- 🛡️ Child Protection: Enable button locking on the case in Settings → Security.
A critical nuance: if you don’t update your firmware immediately after you connect, the vacuum cleaner may later “forget” the Wi-Fi settings after resetting or discharging, due to a bug in older versions of the software (relevant to models until 2022).
| Setting up | Where is it in Mi Home? | Recommended value |
|---|---|---|
| Default cleaning mode | Settings → Cleaning modes | Balanced |
| Loudness of voice prompts | Settings → Sound | 50% (so as not to scare the family) |
| Auto-update map | Settings → Map → Update | Included. |
| Notification of completion of cleaning | Settings → Notifications | Push + voice |
5. Typical connection errors and their solutions
If the vacuum cleaner doesn’t connect, check out these scenarios:
⚠️ Warning: If the vacuum cleaner was previously linked to another Xiaomi account, it must first be removed from the list of devices in that account.
- 🔴 Error: “Unable to connect to the network” Solution: restart the router, check that Wi-Fi is running at 2.4 GHz, and temporarily turn off MAC-filtering in the router settings.
- 🔴 Error: "Device offline" after connecting Solution: Reboot the vacuum cleaner (hold the power button for 20 seconds), then re-add it to Mi Home.
- 🔴 Error: "Incompatible Region" Solution: Change the region in the Mi Home profile to "China", plug in the vacuum cleaner, then return the region back.
- 🔴 Error: vacuum cleaner does not flash white when turned on Solution: check the battery charge (plug in to the docking station for 10 minutes) or perform a reset (reset button on the bottom of the device).
If nothing works, try connecting via an alternative app, Mi Home Lite (available only for Android), which often works more stable with Chinese versions of vacuum cleaners.

6. Connect to voice assistants (Alice, Google Assistant, Siri)
Once you've successfully paired with Mi Home, you can set up voice control.
- For Alice (Yandex): Open the Yandex app → Devices → Add. Select Xiaomi and log in to the same account as Mi Home. Allow access to devices.
For Google Assistant:
- Say, "OK, Google, find my devices."
- Select Mi Home from the list of services and log in.
Example of voice commands:
- 🗣️ «Alice, run the vacuum cleaner in the living room»
- 🗣️ «Okay, Google, put the vacuum cleaner back on the base»
- 🗣️ «Alice, set the cleaning for tomorrow at 10:00 a.m»
⚠️ Warning: To work with voice assistants, the vacuum cleaner must always be online. If it disconnects from Wi-Fi (for example, due to a router failure), the teams will stop working until the connection is restored.
7.Volume Control through Third Party Apps
If the standard Mi Home is not suitable for you, you can use alternatives:
- 📱 Home Assistant – for advanced users (requires customization skills).
- 📱 IoT Mi Control (Android) – Supports informal teams.
- 📱 Mi Home Automate – to create complex cleaning scenarios.
To connect through Home Assistant, you will need:
- Install the Xiaomi Miio component.
- Get token devices (e.g., via Miio2).
- Add the vacuum cleaner to configuration.yaml.
The advantage of third-party applications is advanced settings, for example:
- 📊 Energy consumption schedules.
- 🔄 Customized cleaning regimes.
- 🔔 Notifications about getting stuck with a photo (for models with a camera).
💡
The side of the application may be deprived of warranties if you change the vacuum cleaner firmware. Use them only to read data or control through the official API.
