Xiaomi’s modern robot vacuum cleaners and the Mijia ecosystem are highly functional, but for many users, language localization remains the main barrier. Often, devices shipped through parallel imports or ordered from China are exclusively spoken in English or Chinese, which creates discomfort, especially if there are children or elderly people in the house who find it difficult to understand foreign teams.
Fortunately, engineers and enthusiasts have found ways to get around these limitations. The voice change procedure doesn't require a deep knowledge of programming, but requires careful follow-up. In this article, we'll look at legal and proven methods to get your robot to pronounce commands in Russian.
It’s important to understand that the process can vary depending on the device model. Whether it’s the popular Xiaomi Vacuum Mop 2 Pro or the older Roborock S50, the operating principle is often similar, but the nuances in the Mi Home app interface can vary.
Verification of compatibility of the model and version of the software
Before you start actively changing the language pack, you need to make sure that your robot vacuum cleaner model technically supports this feature. Not all Xiaomi devices have a built-in speech synthesizer or the ability to download third-party audio files.
Go to the device menu and find the system information section. If the software version is significantly different from the latest version available in the global market, it may be the update that solves the problem. However, if you use the Chinese version of the device, a standard update may not bring Russian.
⚠️ Warning: Installing unverified firmware or tampering with system files may result in a loss of warranty.Make sure you use official methods or community-verified scripts.
There are several main series of robots where the voice change is most relevant and popular among users:
- 🤖 Xiaomi Vacuum-Mop (P, Pro, 2 Ultra) series – often requires a change of region.
- 🧹 Roborock lineup (S5, S6, S7, S8) — has built-in language settings.
- 🏠 Mijia models 1C and G1 — Supports voice packets through the cloud.
- ⚙️ Dreame-branded devices – often use a separate app.
To define the model accurately, look at the sticker on the bottom of the case, which shows the exact model number that you need to search on the support forum or in the instructions.
Change of region in the Mi Home app
The easiest and safest way to get a Russian voice is to change the region in the Mi Home app. Xiaomi's algorithms often link language packs to the user's geographic location. If the app "thinks" you're in Russia, it will try to download the relevant resources.
To do this, open the application and go to profile. Click on Settings, then select Region. From the list that opens, you must select Russia or another CIS country if Russian is available there. After changing the region, the application may require rebooting or re-authorization.
It's worth noting that this method doesn't work for all models, and some devices, originally designed for the domestic Chinese market, can block functionality when a region changes to a foreign one, in which case the robot may no longer appear on the list of devices or lose some control functions.
If your voice hasn’t changed after the region change, try removing your device completely from the app and adding it again, already in your Russian profile.
Instructions for installation of voice packet
If the region change doesn't work, you need to manually initiate the download of the voice packet. In some versions of the Mi Home app, this option is hidden in the depth of the settings of the robot itself. Click on the device icon, then three dots in the upper right corner to enter the menu.
Look for a section that might be called Voice Control, Sound Settings, or Voice Pack. Inside that menu should be "Download Voice" or "Download Voice." Click on it and the system will suggest a list of available languages.
☑️ Checklist for voice installation
The download process depends on your Internet speed. Voice packets usually weigh a little, but a stable connection is critical. If the download stops in the middle, the robot can start playing distorted sounds or go into silent mode.
In the rare cases where standard Russian is not on the list, users resort to installing modified packages. ADB-commands, which is a more complex method.
⚠️ Note: When manually uploading third-party files, make sure they are safe. Files with the.pkg or.bin extension from unverified sources may contain malicious code.
Use of alternative applications
Xiaomi’s ecosystem isn’t limited to just one application. For some robot vacuum cleaner models, there are dedicated customers that have more flexible localization settings. For example, Roborock-branded devices often perform better in Roborock’s native app rather than in the overall Mi Home.
Download an alternative app from Google Play or the App Store. Register a new account by selecting the “Russia” region when you register. Link your device to that account. Often, full interface localization and voice notifications are already built into these apps.
Comparison of popular management applications:
| Annex | Support for the Russian language | Compatibility | Stability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mi Home | Partial (depending on the region) | All devices Xiaomi | Tall. |
| Roborock | Complete. | Only Roborock. | Very high. |
| Home Assistant | Depends on integration | Local control | Medium (requires skills) |
| Yeelight | No (only lights) | Yeelight devices | Tall. |
Using Home Assistant is a way for advanced users, and it allows you to localize your device completely, creating your own voice-over scenarios, but requires a dedicated server.
💡
If you’re using Android, try clone the Mi Home app through the App Cloning feature in your phone’s settings to have two accounts with different regions at the same time.
Addressing common problems
Users often experience errors during the setup process, and one of the most common problems is that the robot writes “Network is busy” or “Connection error” when trying to download a voice, which may be due to a lockdown of Xiaomi servers or a weak Wi-Fi signal at the base site.
Try moving the charging base closer to the router or using the 2.4 GHz band, as many older robot models do not support 5 GHz networks.
To reset the network, it is usually necessary to simultaneously press two buttons on the case (often the Home and Turn on buttons) for 5-7 seconds until the device produces an audible signal and announces a Wi-Fi reset.
