Xiaomiβs robot vacuum cleaners have gained popularity thanks to a combination of affordable prices and advanced features: laser navigation, wet cleaning, and integration with a smart home. But many users face one problem: Chinese firmware with an obscure Mandarin interface. Even if you bought the device from an official Russian store, after resetting or updating the software menu can suddenly switch to English or Chinese.
In this article, we'll look at all the current ways to Russify the robot vacuum cleaners Xiaomi, Dreame, Viomi and other ecosystem brands. From simply changing the language in the Mi Home app to flashing through ADB, you'll find a solution for even the most stubborn models. And if your vacuum cleaner already supports Russian, but some voice prompts are in Chinese, we'll show you how to fix this.
1. Check the current firmware version and region
Before you try to Russify a vacuum cleaner, you need to understand what firmware is installed on it and what region the device is intended for, and that depends on which method will work.
This can be done in two ways:
- π± Through the Mi Home app: Open the device card β Settings (β) β About the device β The firmware version, if there's one in the title. CN (for example, 3.5.8_002336_CN) β It's Chinese firmware.
Also, look for regional code in the serial number (on the case or in the application). If there is a CN, CH or HK, the device is designed for China, and Russification may require additional steps.
2. Method 1: Change the language in the Mi Home application (for official firmware)
If your vacuum cleaner supports Russian out of the box but is displayed in a different language, the easiest way is to change the region in the Mi Home app, which works for most models bought in Russia or Europe.
Instructions:
- Open Mi Home and go to profile (the human icon in the lower right corner).
- Click on Region and select Russia.
- Return to the vacuum cleaner card, click Settings (β) β Language and select Russian.
- Reboot the vacuum cleaner (power button for 5 seconds).
If you don't have Russian on your list, your firmware doesn't support it out of the box, so move on to the following ways.
π‘
If the vacuum cleaner has disappeared from the list of devices after changing the region, remove it from the application and add it again.
Method 2: Russification through the change of region in Mi Account
Some models (such as the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Lite or Dreame D9) require not only a region change in the app, but also a link to the Russian Mi Account.
How to do this:
- Go to the Mi Account account through the browser.
- Go to Settings β Region and change the country to Russia.
- Confirm the change by SMS or email.
- Remove the vacuum cleaner from the Mi Home app and add it again.
After that, the device should appear in the settings of the Russian language. If not, try to dump the vacuum cleaner to the factory settings (reset button on the case or in the application menu).
What if the Mi Account does not change the region?
Method 3: Installation of alternative firmware (for advanced users)
If the official methods do not work, you need to reflash the vacuum cleaner on custom firmware with support for Russian, which is suitable for models based on Rockrobo (for example, Xiaomi Mi Robot 1S/2/Pro, Viomi V2/V3).
Important: flashing can take away your warranty and, if you do the wrong thing, turn the vacuum cleaner into a brick. If you're not sure about yourself, you should consult a specialist.
Tools required:
- π» Computer with Windows or Linux.
- π USB-Type-C Cable (to connect to a vacuum cleaner).
- π¦ Valetudo or Dustcloud firmware (download on GitHub).
- π οΈ PuTTY program (for access by SSH).
Step-by-step:
- Download and unpack Valetudo firmware on your computer.
- Connect the vacuum cleaner to the PC via USB and turn it on.
- Run the installation script (for Windows β install.bat, for Linux β install.sh).
- Wait for the process to be completed (about 10-15 minutes) and the vacuum cleaner will restart several times.
- After installation, connect to the vacuum cleaner through the browser at the address http://[IP-vacuum cleaner address IP router).
In the Valetudo web interface, you can choose Russian, configure cleaning areas and even control a vacuum cleaner without Mi Home.
Download Valetudo firmware from official GitHub
Check the battery charge of the vacuum cleaner (at least 50%)
Connect the vacuum cleaner to the computer with the original cable
Disable antivirus (can block scripts)
Backup your current firmware (if possible)
-->
5. Method 4: Russification of voice prompts
Even if the vacuum cleaner menu is in Russian, voice alerts (such as βGetting Cleanβ or βCharging Completedβ) can remain in Chinese, because the voice packets are sewn into the firmware separately from the interface.
Decisions:
- π Turn off voice prompts: in Mi Home go to Settings β Voice alerts β Turn it off.
- π€ Replace voice packet: this requires root rights and access to the vacuum cleaner file system (suitable only for custom firmware).
- π± Use third-party apps: for example, Home Assistant with Xiaomi Miio integration allows you to replace voiceover with your voiceover.
If you use Valetudo, you can download Russian voice files manually:
- Download the Russian voice package for your model.
- Go to Valetudo β Settings β Voice Packs.
- Download the file and apply the changes.
π‘
Voice cues in Chinese do not affect the functionality of the vacuum cleaner. If Russification is too complicated, they can be turned off without losing any capabilities.
6. Method 5: Russification through Home Assistant (for smart home)
If you use the Home Assistant smart home system, you can integrate the vacuum cleaner through the Miio protocol and control it in Russian, even if the vacuum cleaner itself remains on Chinese firmware.
Instructions:
- Install Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi or other server.
- Add Xiaomi Miio integration through Settings β Devices and Services β Add integration.
- Enter. IP-vacuum cleaner address and token (how to get a token β see below).
- Create Russian scenarios for vacuum cleaner control (e.g., βLiving Room Cleaningβ instead of βClean Living Roomβ).
How to get a token for Miio:
- Download the Mi Home Token Extractor app (available on GitHub).
- Sign in to your Mi Account account.
- Select a vacuum cleaner in the list of devices and copy the token.
The advantage of this method is full control over the vacuum cleaner in Russian, including creating schedules, cleaning areas and voice control through Alice or Google Assistant.
7. Frequent mistakes and how to avoid them
When russifying Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaners, users often face typical problems, and here are the most common ones and ways to solve them:
| Mistake. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Vacuum cleaner not connected to Mi Home after region change | App cache or account conflict | Clear the Mi Home cache, restart the phone and add the device again |
| There is no Russian in the list of languages | Chinese firmware without multilingual support | Install custom firmware (like Valetudo) or use Home Assistant |
| After the refrigeration, the vacuum cleaner does not turn on | Incorrectly selected firmware file or interrupted process | Repeat the firmware with the right version for your model. If it doesn't work, contact the service. |
| Voice prompts remain in Chinese | Voice packet not updated | Turn off alerts or replace the package via Valetudo |
π‘
If the vacuum cleaner starts to behave strangely after Russification (for example, does not build a map or does not respond to commands), reset to the factory settings. To do this, press and hold the Reset button on the case for 10 seconds.
8 Models That Are Hard to Russify (and What to Do About Them)
Some Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaners are designed for the Chinese market and are almost non-russianable by standard methods.
- π€ Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro (Chinese version) β requires a mandatory flashing on Valetudo.
- π€ Viomi V3 Max - Russian language appears only after linking to the European server Mi Home.
- π€ Dreame Bot W10 β Russified only through Home Assistant or third-party apps.
- π€ Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum E10 β You need firmware from Dustcloud with support for Russian.
If your model is on this list, we recommend:
- Try Valetudo or Dustcloud.
- Use Home Assistant to manage in Russian.
- Contact the service center for professional Russification (cost - from 1,500 to 3,000 rubles).
