Owners of Xiaomi smart appliances often face a situation where a device ordered from abroad βspeaksβ in Chinese or English, ignoring the userβs native interface. This is a common problem associated with regional binding of the gadget and the choice of server when initially set up. Localizing the device is not just a matter of comfort, but also a need for a proper understanding of voice commands and cleaning statuses.
Fortunately, the Mi Home ecosystem provides flexible tools to manage these parameters. However, the process of changing the language is not always obvious and depends on a particular vacuum cleaner model, whether it is a Roborock S50, Xiaomi Vacuum Mop 2 or the flagship X10+. In some cases, it is enough to change the settings in the application, in others, you will need a complete reset of regional data.
In this guide, we will discuss all available methods for adapting the interface and voice assistant to your needs, you will learn how to properly configure the server to activate the Russian language, and what to do if standard methods do not work.
Why the robot vacuum cleaner does not support Russian
The main reason for the lack of the desired language is the distribution policy of Xiaomi, Global Version devices come with a pre-installed multilingual package that includes Russian, English and European languages (CN Version, which are often cheaper, are by default sharpened for the PRC market.
The second important factor is the choice of server when registering an account: if you have created a Mi Account from China, the application can force you to offer a Chinese interface or limit the choice of languages for connected devices, regional restrictions directly affect the available functionality and language packages.
β οΈ Warning: When buying a device in the Chinese market, make sure the model supports global firmware. Some budget models may have only Chinese and English stitched at the hardware level.
Also worth considering is the Mi Home version, where app stores (Google Play, App Store) may offer slightly different versions of the software, where the set of languages may vary, and updating the app to the latest version often solves problems with displaying translations.
Preparation for changing the language: checking the model and version of the software
Before you start changing your settings, you need to identify your deviceβs exact model and current software version, which is critically important because the instructions for older Roborock models may differ from the algorithms for newer AI-enabled devices.
Open the Mi Home app and go to the home page. Find your robot vacuum cleaner card. Usually, the top right corner or the three-point menu hides the device information. You need to find the Software Version or Firmware Version bar.
Write down this data. If the software version is very old (for example, it was released more than a year ago), the system may not contain current language packs, in which case the priority will be to update the firmware.

Before any language manipulation, make sure the robot is at least 20% charged. Interrupting the language pack update due to battery discharge can cause software failure.
Also check which server the device is connected to. This information is often displayed in the device profile or in the general ac-unt settings. For users from the CIS and Europe, the best choice is the server "Russia", "Germany" or "Singapore", but not "China".
Change the language through the settings of the Mi Home app
The easiest and safest way to change the language of the management interface is to use the built-in settings of the Mi Home app itself, which changes the language of menus, buttons and cleaning reports, but does not always affect the voice notifications of the robot itself.
To start, open the app and click on the profile icon (usually the Profile tab or Mine tab in the bottom menu). Find Settings (the gear icon). From the options list, select General Settings or General Settings.
Next, look for the Language or Language section. If your phone is configured in Russian, the app will automatically offer a Russian interface if it is supported for your account region. If the application interface language is already Russian, but the robot speaks English, then proceed to the settings of the device itself.
Go to the robot control, click on the three dots in the top right corner to log in to the device menu. Look for the device settings -> Voice Pack or Voice Pack. You can choose the voice language here.
It's important to understand that changing the language in an app doesn't always sync with the robot's voice module instantly. Sometimes you need to reboot the device. Data synchronization can take 1 to 5 minutes depending on the speed of the Internet connection.
Changing the account region to activate the language
If you don't have a language choice in your device settings, the problem is that you're linking your account, and many of the features and language packs are only available when you change the server region, and this is the most effective method for Chinese versions of robots.
Go to Profile -> Settings -> Region. In the list that opens, select the country where you are actually located (e.g. Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine). The app will warn that the list of devices may clear, but after restarting, they usually reload.
After changing the region, add the device again if it is missing from the list. When you first set up, re-select your language and confirm the choice. The system will download the corresponding language package for the model.
βοΈ Checklist of region change
Itβs worth noting that a region shift can affect some smart home scenarios if they were tightly tied to the previous server, and regional alignment is a key mechanism for Xiaomiβs cloud services.
β οΈ Warning: When you change region, some devices may temporarily disappear from the list. Don't panic or delete them permanently - just repeat the procedure of adding (associating) the device to the new server.
Device reset and re-binding
In cases where the software settings do not apply, a complete reset of the device to factory settings is required, which clears the network settings cache and causes the robot to re-query the configuration from the server, including the language packet.
To perform the reset, you usually need to press two buttons on the robot body simultaneously (often the Home and On/Off buttons or a special reset button under the lid) for 5-10 seconds before the sound signal. The exact combination for your model is better specified in the instructions, as it varies.
After reset, the robot will go into pairing mode (a blinking Wi-Fi indicator). Remove the device from the Mi Home app (if it is left with an error) and click "Add device".
When you set up the new setting, you'll want to watch your smartphone screen carefully, and the app will tell you to choose a voice control language, and that's when you download the files you want, and the initial setup is the critical step in determining the language.
| Model robot. | Resetting method | Indication | Post-discharge action |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi Vacuum 1 | Clamp 2 buttons | Wi-Fi flashing | Search for Mi Home |
| Roborock S5/S6 | Reset button (side) | Voice of "Reset" | Entering a Wi-Fi password |
| Mijia 1C | Long Power pressing | Orange light | QR scanning |
| Xiaomi X10+ | On-screen menu/buttons | Voice menu | Choosing a language |

Hard Reset is a radical, but often the only way to get the Chinese version of the robot to βspeakβ in Russian when changing servers.
Installation of third-party voice packets
For advanced users and models that support this feature (mostly Roborock and some Xiaomi flagships), there is the option of manually installing voice packets, which allows for, for example, to put a celebrity voice or better voice acting.
Officially, this feature is available in the Settings -> Voice Package menu. If there are only basic options, you can use third-party resources, but this requires caution. Package files have the extension.pkg or.bin.
The installation process is like this: download the voice file, in the application, select "Install voice packet" -> "Select from the memory of the phone." The robot will download and install the new file.
Path to file: /storage/emulated/0/Download/ru_RU_voice.pkgUsing informal packages can cause the voice engine to run unstable. Third-party packets are not guaranteed by the manufacturer and can be removed when you update the firmware.

Frequent problems and their solution
Even if you follow all the instructions, users can run into difficulties, and one of the most common problems is that the robot updates the firmware, but the language remains English, which happens if the account server does not match the region of the device.
Another problem is partial localization, the menu is in Russian and the voice commands are in English, and in this case, only a complete reset of the network and re-assignment with the right region selection at the time of the first connection will help.
If the robot is constantly resetting the language after rebooting, the configuration file may be damaged, in which case it helps to clear the Mi Home app cache in the Android/iOS settings or reinstall the application itself.
β οΈ Warning: Never interrupt the process of updating a voice packet by turning off the robot or closing the application. This can lead to the "bricking" of the audio module, which can only be restored by the service center.
Also, keep your Wi-Fi connection stable, because a weak signal can interrupt the loading of language files, and the robot will remain in the default language, and a stable communication channel is the key to successful configuration.
