Xiaomi’s robot vacuum cleaners are some of the most popular smart home devices, but users sometimes face the problem of a flawed interface language. For example, after buying from foreign sites (AliExpress, Gearbest) or resetting the settings, the device can “talk” in Chinese, English or another language, which complicates management. In this article, we will discuss all possible ways to change the language on Xiaomi’s robot vacuum cleaners, including Mi Robot Vacuum, Dreame, Viomi and others.
It’s important to understand that the process depends on the device’s firmware and the app version. Some models (such as the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Lite) support language change directly in the mobile app, while others (Dreame D9) will require physical buttons or even voice commands. We’ll look at each method in detail, and also tell you what to do if the language does not change or the device “hangs” in the process.
If you have just purchased a robot vacuum cleaner and it is speaking in an unknown language, don’t panic. 90% of the time, the problem can be solved in 5-10 minutes, following our instructions, the main thing is not to interrupt the process of updating the firmware (if necessary) and make sure that the device is connected to a stable 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
1. Method 1: Change the language through the mobile application Mi Home / Xiaomi Home
The easiest and safest method is to use the official Mi Home app (or Xiaomi Home for new devices), which is suitable for most modern models, including the Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro, Dreame D10 Plus and others.
Step-by-step:
- Open the Mi Home app and make sure the robot vacuum cleaner is connected to your account.
- Go to the main page of the device (stamp on its icon).
- In the upper right corner, press three dots (⋮) → Select the device settings.
- Scroll down to General or Additional and find Language (or Language).
- Select the language you want from the list (for example, Russian or Russian).
- Confirm the changes and wait for the device to restart (usually takes 1-2 minutes).
If you don't have Language in your settings, it means your model doesn't support changing the language through the app, so move on to the following.
Make sure the robot is connected to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi |
Update the Mi Home app to the latest version|
Check that the device is not in cleaning mode |
Battery charge of the robot - at least 20%-->
Important! Some firmware may require reconnecting the device to your account after changing the language. If the robot "disappears" from the device list, click Add Device and follow the instructions on the screen.
2. Method 2: Using physical buttons on the body
If the app doesn’t work or the robot isn’t connected to Wi-Fi, you can try changing the language with buttons on the case, which works for most Dreame models (e.g. Dreame D9, Dreame Z10 Pro) and some versions of the Mi Robot.
Instructions for Dreame:
- Turn off the robot by holding the Power button for 3-5 seconds.
- Press the Home and Spot Cleaning buttons for 5-7 seconds at the same time until you hear the beep.
- Release the buttons – the robot will issue a voice message in the current language.
- Press the Spot Cleaning button to switch languages, and each click will be accompanied by a voice message in the selected language.
- After selecting the desired language (for example, Russian), hold the Home button for 3 seconds to save.
For Mi Robot Vacuum models (e.g. Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop P), the button combination may differ:
- 🔄 Hold the Power button and the Cleanup Start button at the same time for 10 seconds.
- 🎵 The robot will make a melody and start switching languages with brief presses on the cleaning button.
- 💾 To save the selected language, hold the Power button for 5 seconds.
What if the robot doesn’t respond to the buttons?
Warning: Some models (e.g. Viomi V3) can reset all settings after changing the language through buttons. Write down or take a picture of the current cleaning options (power, schedule, etc.) in advance.
Method 3: Voice commands for changing language
Xiaomi’s voice-assisted robot vacuum cleaners (such as the Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Ultra or DreameBot L10 Pro) allow you to change your language with voice commands, a method that’s handy if you already have Alice, Google Assistant or Siri set up control.
How to change your voice:
- 🗣️ Tell the robot to “change language to Russian” or “Change language to Russian” (if the current language is English).
- 🤖 The robot will confirm the command and offer to choose the language available.
- 🔄 If the voice assistant doesn’t respond, check your internet connection and update your device’s firmware.
For models with Yandex support for Alice (for example, Redmi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2C), you can use the command:
Alice, ask the robot vacuum cleaner to change its language to Russian.Limitation: Voice-to-language changes only work for multi-zone firmware (e.g. Global or EUR>).If your robot is bought in China and runs on CN firmware, this may not work.
💡
If the robot doesn’t understand voice commands, try reconnecting it to your Mi Home account in Russia or Europe.
Method 4: Update firmware to add a new language
If there is no Russian in the list of available languages, your firmware may be outdated or designed for another region (e.g. China-only), in which case it will help to update the software through the application or manually.
How to update the firmware through Mi Home:
- Open the Mi Home app and go to the robot settings.
- Select the Firmware Update (or Firmware Update).
- If a new version is available, click Update and wait until the process is complete (usually 5-15 minutes).
- After updating, check the language section - Russian may have appeared.
Manual firmware update (for experienced users):
If automatic updates don’t help, you can manually install firmware via Mi Home Mod (an informal app) or ADB. This method is risky and can lead to a loss of warranty, so use it only as a last resort.
Step-by-step instructions for manual update:
- 📥 Download the current firmware for your model from the forum 4PDA Xiaomi Community.
- 🔌 Connect the robot to the computer through USB-OTG (You'll need an adapter).
- 🖥️ Use the MiRobot utility or ADB firmware-loader.
- ⚠️ Don't disable the robot during the process! this can cause the device to "brick.
💡
Updating the firmware is the most reliable way to add support for Russian, but requires a stable Internet connection. If the robot turns off during the upgrade, it may need to reset to factory settings.
5. Method 5: Resetting settings to factory
If none of these methods worked, the last resort is a complete reset, which will remove all settings, including stored maps of the premises and cleaning schedules, but often helps to solve language problems.
How to Reset Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Cleaner:
- Turn off the device by holding the Power button for 5 seconds.
- Press and hold the Home and Spot Cleaning buttons for 10-15 seconds until you hear a beep (usually two short beeps).
- Release the buttons – the robot will start the reset process (the indicator can flash).
- After the reboot, connect the robot to the Mi Home app again and select the language when you first set up.
Attention! On some models (e.g. Dreame) D10) The reset may require re-attachment to the account through QR-code that is displayed on the robot after being turned on.
If the language is still unchanged after the reset, the problem is likely to be regional firmware, in which case only manual firmware (see section 4) or contacting a service center will help.

7. Frequent problems and their solutions
When changing languages on Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaners, users often encounter common mistakes.
Problem 1: There is no Russian in the list of languages
- 🔄 Check the firmware version in the robot settings. If it is outdated, update (see section 4).
- 🌍 Make sure that the Mi Home app selects Russia or Europe (in profile settings).
- 📦 If the robot is bought in China, you may need a manual firmware Global version.
Problem 2: Robot “hangs” when changing language
⚠️ If the robot has stopped responding to commands after trying to change language, perform a forced reset: hold the Power button for 10-15 seconds. If this does not help, reset to factory settings (section 5).
Problem 3: Voice prompts remain in the same language
- 🔊 Reboot the robot (turn off and turn on the Power button).
- 📱 Remove the device from the Mi Home app and add it again.
- 🎤 Check the settings of the voice assistant (for example, in Alice, choose Russian by default).
Problem 4: After changing the language, the robot does not connect to Wi-Fi
⚠️ Attention! Some firmware resets network settings when you change language. To reconnect, go to Settings. → Wi-Fi on the robot and repeat the connection procedure as in the first setup.
