Xiaomiβs smart fans are not just cooling devices, but full-fledged elements of the smart home ecosystem that can be controlled from a smartphone. However, many users face difficulties when connecting for the first time: the app does not see the device, the fan does not respond to commands, there are synchronization errors. In this article, we will discuss all possible ways to connect, from the standard procedure through Mi Home to alternative methods for older models or devices without original software.
It is important to understand that the connection process may vary depending on the fan model (e.g. Xiaomi Mi Smart Fan). 1C, Mi Smart Standing Fan 2 or Mi Smart Tower Fan, the firmware version and even the region where the device was purchased, we took into account all the nuances and prepared a universal instruction that will help even if you have a fan with Chinese firmware and without Russian support in the application.
Before you start, make sure you have: 1 Android 5.0 Smartphone+ or iOS 10.0+ (Mi Home installed (or Mi Home Lite for easy management), 3 Wi-Fi access 2.4 GHz (Xiaomi smart devices do not work with 5 GHz), 4 Charged fan (if the model with a battery) or connected to a socket.
1.What fan Xiaomi can connect to the phone?
Not all fans of the brand support remote control, here is a complete list of models that can be synced with a smartphone:
- πΉ Xiaomi Mi Smart Fan 1C β budget model with basic functions (speed adjustment, timer).
- πΉ Mi Smart Standing Fan 2 - improved version with support DC-motor, quiet operation and advanced settings.
- πΉ Mi Smart Tower Fan - Tower with LED-Display, gesture management and integration with Google Assistant/Alexa.
- πΉ Mi Smart Ceiling Fan β ceiling fan with remote control and support for Mi Home.
- πΉ Mi Smart Pedestal Fan Pro is a premium model with a 3D-blower.
If your model is not included in the list, check its name on the official Xiaomi website or in the documentation. Fans without the marking "Smart" (for example, simple desktop models Mi Fan without Wi-Fi) do not support connection to the phone.
Also, pay attention to the regional version of the device:
β CN-versions (for China) may require additional manipulations to connect outside the PRC.
Global versions usually work out of the box with Russian in the application.
β IN-The version (for India) sometimes has geolocation restrictions.
β οΈ Note: If you bought a fan on AliExpress or another marketplace without specifying the region, most likely it is a fan. CN-To connect it, you will need to change the region in Mi Home (more about this below).
2. Preparation of the phone and fan for connection
Before synchronization, you need to follow several mandatory steps to avoid errors:
- Update the fan firmware. If the device has already been used, check the relevance of the software through the official app. Outdated versions may conflict with new versions of the Mi Home.
- Connect your phone to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. Xiaomi smart devices don't work with 5GHz networks. If you have a dual-band router, temporarily shut down 5GHz or create a separate network for 2.4GHz.
- Turn on geolocation and Bluetooth. The Mi Home app uses Bluetooth for initial setup, and GPS β define the region.
- Sign up for a Xiaomi account. You can't sync without an account. If you don't have an account, create it in advance at account.xiaomi.com.
If you CN-Fan version, additionally perform the following steps:
Download. APK-The Mi Home version (e.g., with the 4PDA)|Install. VPN server-side|Register a new Xiaomi account with a Chinese number (+86)|Select the "China" region in the application settings-->
For models with DC-with the engine (for example, Mi Smart Standing Fan 2) before connecting, it is recommended to reset the settings to the factory:
- Turn the fan off the socket.
- Press the power button on the body for 10 seconds.
- Connect to power - the device should flash 3 times (reset signal).
3. Step-by-step instruction: connection via Mi Home
The standard way to sync is through the official Mi Home app.
- Open Mi Home and log in. If you have multiple accounts, select the one you want to link your fan to, and make sure the region in your profile matches the region of your device (e.g., Russia for Global).
Wait for the setup to be completed.
- The process may take up to 2-3 minute.
- Do not close the app and do not turn off the fan.
Once successfully connected, the fan will appear in the Mi Home main menu.
- π§ Adjust the speed of rotation.
- π Set on/off timers.
- π‘οΈ Adjust automatic temperature (if supported by the model).
- π Integrate with other Xiaomi devices (e.g. climate sensors).
β οΈ Attention: If the error "Can't connect to the network" appears during the Wi-Fi connection stage, try: 1) Restart the router, 2) Disable IPv6 in router settings, 3) Temporarily disable MAC-filtering (if enabled).
4. Alternative ways of connecting
If the standard method doesnβt work, try one of the alternatives:
| Method | When to use | Instructions |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Home Lite | For simplified management without unnecessary functions | Download Mi Home Lite from Google Play or App Store. Sign in with the same account as you did on Mi Home. Add the device via "+" β "Fan". |
| Regime. AP (point) | If the fan is not connected to Wi-Fi | Transfer the phone to access point mode (network name: Xiaomi_XXXX). Connect the fan to this network. Go back to Mi Home and reset the setup. |
| Change of region to Mi Home | For CN-Versions or devices without support for your region | At Mi Home, go to profile β "Region. Select "China (China)." Repeat the addition of the device. |
| Connection through Home Assistant | For advanced users with local management | Install Home Assistant on the server or Raspberry Pi. Add Xiaomi Miio integration. IP-Fan address and token (received through Mi Home). |
The Home Assistant method requires a device token, which can be done through the Mi Home app using a packet sniffer (like Packet Capture on Android) or special scripts. Be careful: transferring the token to third parties can lead to a leak of data about your smart home.

- π Automatic mode: If the fan supports the temperature sensor, it will turn on when a predetermined threshold is exceeded.
- ποΈ Integration with other devices: For example, you can set a scenario where the fan is turned on with the Xiaomi air conditioner.
- π Night mode: Reduces the speed and brightness of indicators for comfortable sleep.
For models with DC-The engine (e.g. Mi Smart Standing Fan 2) has additional settings available:
- The direction of the blowing: vertical (up-down) and horizontal (left-right) swing.
- Children's lock: Disables buttons on the case for security.
- Energy saving: Automatic shutdown with prolonged downtime.
To set up voice control via Google Assistant or Alice:
- In Mi Home go to the fan settings β "Voice assistant".
- Select the service (Google Home, Yandex, Alexa).
- Follow the instructions for linking accounts.
- After synchronization, you can control the fan with commands such as: "OK, Google, turn the fan on at maximum speed."
β οΈ Attention: Voice control only works for Global versions of devices. CN-The versions will require a change of region in Mi Home to Russia or Europe after initial configuration.
6. Frequent errors and their solutions
Even with the correct following of the instructions, there can be problems, and let's look at the most common mistakes and how to fix them:
| Mistake. | Possible cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| No device found. | The fan is not on standby. The Bluetooth is off on the phone. The device is already tied to another account. | Reset the fan (press the power button for 10 seconds). Turn on Bluetooth and geolocation. Check if the fan has been added to another Mi Home account. |
| Can't connect to Wi-Fi. | The router only operates in the 5GHz band. MAC-Filtering. Wi-Fi signal is too weak. | Switch the router to 2.4GHz mode or create a separate network. MAC-Filter temporarily, bring the fan closer to the router. |
| The app gives you an "Unknown error" | Mi Home is outdated. Xiaomi servers are temporarily unavailable. VPN firewall. | Update Mi Home to the latest version. Check the status of Xiaomi servers at status.mi.com. VPN and antivirus at the time of setting up. |
| Fan connected but does not respond to commands | Internet connection problems. The device is too far from the router. | Reboot the router and fan, check if the Wi-Fi indicator on the fan is on, update the firmware through Mi Home. |
If none of these methods worked, try contacting Xiaomi support.
- At Mi Home, go to Profile" β "Feedback".
- Describe the problem in as much detail as possible (fan model, Mi Home version, screenshot of the error).
- Attach the error log (can be obtained in the application settings) β "Magazines").
π‘
If the Xiaomi fan isnβt connecting to the phone, try using a second phone with another Mi Account. Sometimes the problem lies in the accountβs limitations (for example, if it was blocked for suspicious activity).
7. Fan control without internet
Many users are wondering: can you control a fan Xiaomi without the Internet? The answer is yes, but with reservations:
- πΆ Local control: If the phone and fan are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, commands will be transmitted directly through the router, without access to the Internet.
- π± Bluetooth control: Some models (e.g. Mi Smart Tower Fan) support Bluetooth control within a 10-meter radius.
- π Local Server: When using Home Assistant or OpenHab, management is done over a local area network.
To enable local management in Mi Home:
- Open the fan settings.
- Go to the Network" β "Local control".
- Activate the option (if available for your model).
If the internet is down and the fan has stopped responding to commands, check:
- Is the phone and fan connected to the same Wi-Fi network?
- Hasn't changed? IP-Router address (sometimes reconnection is required).
- Does the firewall block local requests (disable it temporarily)
β οΈ Note: When you change your router or change your network settings (such as changing your Wi-Fi name or password), the fan will automatically disconnect from the Mi Home.
