Modern technology allows you to control the lighting in the apartment with one voice, without getting up from the sofa. Integration of Xiaomi and Yeelight devices with the voice assistant Yandex opens up a wide range of possibilities for automation of everyday life. You no longer have to look for a switch in the dark or worry if you turned off the lights before leaving.
The setup process takes only a few minutes if you know the right sequence of actions, and in this article we will discuss how to link accounts, set up management, and create useful scenarios for a comfortable life.
Before you start installing, make sure your light bulb supports Wi-Fi or Zigbee Gateway.Older models that only work over Bluetooth without a gateway may require additional action or not be directly supported.
Equipment and training required
Successful integration will require a stable internet connection and a smartphone with installed apps. It is critical that your router runs in the 2.4GHz band, as most smart home devices donβt see a 5GHz network.
Make sure that the phone is enabled geolocation and Bluetooth, these modules are necessary for the initial detection of the device and the correct transmission of location data in the Yandex system.
- π± Smartphone with Android or iOS.
- π‘ Router with support for 2.4 GHz.
- π‘ Xiaomi Smart Lamp or Yeelight.
- π Stable electricity on the grid.
β οΈ Note: If you have a dual-band router, make sure that 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks have different names (SSID) at the time of setting up or the phone is connected to the 2.4 GHz network.
Check the lamp cap. Most models use the standard E27 cap, but there are also E14s or track caps, and physical compatibility with the cartridge is the first step to success.
Primary settings in the Mi Home app
Before you link the devices to Alice, you need to activate them in your native ecosystem app. Download Mi Home from the official app store and log in to your Xiaomi account.
Put the light bulb in the cartridge, it should start flashing or lighting up, signaling that it is ready to pair, and if the lamp is new, it will automatically go into search mode.
βοΈ Checking before connection
Press the Add Device button in the top right corner of the app. The system will automatically scan the space. If a lamp is found, follow the instructions on the screen to complete the connection.
In the process of setting up, the app will suggest selecting the room where the device is installed. Correctly specifying the room (such as "Bedroom" or "Kitchen") is critical to the correct operation of voice commands in the future, which will allow Alice to understand the context when you say, "Switch off the lights in the kitchen."
Linking accounts in Yandex
After successful configuration in Mi Home, we move to integration with the Yandex ecosystem. Open the Yandex or Yandex House app on your smartphone. Go to the Devices section and click the plus to add a new gadget.
In the manufacturer list, find Xiaomi Mi Home or Yeelight, depending on which app you set up the lamp through. Usually, Yeelight lamps are better served by the same name, and Mi Home is better for the rest.
| Service in Yandex | Supported devices | Features |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi Mi Home | Most of Xiaomi's lamps | Basic management |
| Yeelight | Yeelight brand lamps | Extended scenarios |
| Redmond | Some Xiaomi models | Rarely used |
Click on the selected service and log in by entering the username and password from your Xiaomi account. After successful authorization, the system will request permission to access the devices.
β οΈ Note: When logging in, use the same account region as in the Mi Home app. If your account is Chinese, you may also need to specify the corresponding region in Yandex profile settings.
Once you link your accounts, you'll start syncing, which can take anywhere from 10 seconds to a few minutes depending on the number of devices, and don't close the app at that time.
Managing Color and Brightness
Once you synchronize, you have full control over the parameters of the light, and voice commands allow you to change not only the on/off state, but also the color temperature and hue.
Try saying, "Alice, set a warm light in the living room," or "Alice, make the light brighter," and the lamp will respond instantly to the command by changing the light settings.
The secret to fine-tuning the color
If you have a model that supports 16 million colors, you can create atmospheric lighting for parties or a romantic dinner. In the Yandex app, select the device and move the color wheel slider.
Sometimes, commands can be executed with a delay, depending on the response speed of Xiaomi servers and the quality of your Internet connection. Local area network is usually more stable than cloud commands.
Creating automation scenarios
The real magic of a smart home is revealed in scenarios, where you can program the lamps to do things when conditions come in, like turning on the lights when the sun goes down or turning off all the lights when you say, "I'm gone."
In the Yandex app, go to Scenarios and click Add. Select a trigger (condition) and action. The trigger can be time, geolocation or voice command.
- π Sunrise/Sunset: Automatic lighting in the evening.
- π£ Voice: Launching a series of actions in one sentence.
- β° Timer: Turning off lights after a predetermined time.
- π Geolocation: Turning on the lights when you approach the house.
π‘
Use the Good Morning script to smoothly turn on the light along with the alarm clock, replacing the sharp sound of your smartphone with a pleasant awakening.
Complex scenarios can include delays and conditions, such as, "If it's night and I'm home, then turn on the light in the hallway by 50%," which avoids being blinded by bright lights in the dark.
Solving problems and mistakes
Sometimes devices can be displayed as βOut of the networkβ or stop responding to commands, most often the problem lies in changing the Wi-Fi password or updating the routerβs firmware.
If the lamp is missing, try turning off and switch on the power switch. The device will try to reconnect. If that doesn't work, check the status of Xiaomi servers.
β οΈ Warning: Frequent flashing or resetting of the device may result in locking on IP Do a complete reset from the cloud service (5-7 Turn on/off the switch only as a last resort.
Check if Mi Home or Yandex apps have been updated, and newer versions of the software sometimes change security protocols, requiring re-authorization of the account.
π‘
The stability of the smart home depends on the quality of the Wi-Fi signal and the absence of IP-address conflicts in the local network.
If nothing works, remove the device from the Mi Home app and add it again, then re-sync with Yandex. This cures 95% of software errors.
