Modern cleaning devices require initial setup to work properly, and the Xiaomi Vacuum Mop robot vacuum cleaner is no exception. Proper wireless connection provides access to remote management, building a room map and setting up a schedule. Without primary synchronization, the gadget will only work offline, which significantly limits its functionality.
The pairing process takes no more than 10 minutes if you pre-prepared your smartphone and make sure the Internet connection is stable. The key is to use the correct frequency of the Wi-Fi router, since many Xiaomi smart appliances models support only the 2.4 GHz range. In this article, we will discuss all the stages of setting up from unpacking to the first wet cleaning.
Owners of the Mi Home ecosystem will appreciate the possibility of integrating a vacuum cleaner into common smart home scenarios, such as a device that can start automatically when you leave home, or shut down when your smartphone battery is low. Let's look at how to activate this potential.
Preparation of equipment and mobile application
Before setting up, unpack the device and check the equipment for all components. The box usually contains the robot itself, the charging station, the power supply, the cable, the dust container, the HEPA filter and, depending on the model, the wet cleaning module. Make sure that the case does not show any visible damage caused by transportation.
The official Mi Home app (or Xiaomi Home) is available from Google Play and App Store, and you should only download it from official sources to avoid malware, and you will need to register an account or log in to an existing one after installation.
It is important to choose the right region when you sign in. If you are in Russia but the device is imported from China (Global or CN version), the region may be different. Changing the region in the application often helps to find the device if standard search does not give results. For European versions, choose the country of residence, for Chinese - China.
Installation of charging station and basic charging
The first step in the physical installation is to place a docking station, so the robot has free access to the recharging contacts after each cleaning, and find a flat spot against the wall, where there is 0.5 meters of free space on the sides of the base, and at least 1.5 meters in the front.
Connect the power supply to the mains and set the base. The indicator on the top panel should light up. If the indicator flashes or does not light, check the density of the cable adjacent to the base connector. Xiaomi Vacuum Mop will automatically go to standby.

Put the robot vacuum cleaner on the base manually for primary charging. Even if the device was charged in the factory, it is recommended to let it stand on contacts for 2-3 hours before the first full cleaning, this will help calibrate the battery and ensure stable operation in the first cycles.
Resetting Wi-Fi settings and entering pairing mode
To start setting up the network, you need to put the device in pairing mode. Most Xiaomi Vacuum Mop models have a combination of buttons to reset network settings, usually by simultaneously clamping the on and back buttons (or home buttons).
Hold the buttons for 5-7 seconds until you hear a voice message or see the flashing of the Wi-Fi indicator. The voice assistant will report the transition to settings mode. If the device has already been connected to another network, this step is mandatory.

Enter your Wi-Fi password. Please note that the app does not support 5GHz networks. If you have a dual-band router with the same name for both frequencies, it may be difficult, in which case temporarily split the networks in the router settings or create a 2.4GHz guest network.
What if 5GHz and 2.4GHz networks are combined?
Once you enter the password, the data transfer process will begin, the progress bar will appear on the screen, at which point do not switch between applications and do not block the smartphone screen. Setting up a room map and zoning
Once successfully connected, the robot will propose the first complete cleaning to build the map, launch the device from the base and make sure all the doors to the rooms are open, and the robot will move randomly, scanning the space with a laser rangefinder (LiDAR) or a gyroscope.
The app will display a map under construction in real time. Xiaomi Vacuum Mop allows you to divide rooms into rooms, assign names to them and install virtual walls, which is useful for limiting the cleaning area without using physical magnetic tapes.

Wet cleaning and maintenance setting
Models with Mop function are equipped with a water tank and an electronic pump or mechanical feed system. Before installing the tank, you must fill it with water (preferably distilled or filtered) and set the desired water supply level in the application.
In the device settings, select the type of cleaning: dry only, wet only or combined. For wet cleaning, make sure that the microfiber cloth is clean and properly fixed to the module. Adjusting the water level helps to avoid puddles on the floor or, conversely, too dry cleaning.
After each wet cleaning, it is recommended to remove the tank, pour out the remaining water and wipe the cloth. Storing water in the tank for a long time can lead to scale on the pump or an unpleasant odor. Fine cleaning filters also require regular replacement or washing.

Solving Connection Errors
If the robot doesn't connect the first time, the application will give you an error code, and the most common problem is, "I couldn't connect to the network," which could mean a weak Wi-Fi signal at the base installation point or an incorrect password.
Try bringing the robot closer to the router for setup time and then back to base, and rebooting the router and clearing the app cache helps, and make sure the router doesn't have AP Isolation client isolation on it, which blocks communication between devices on the network.
⚠️ Note: If the Wi-Fi indicator is on all the time but does not flash, then the device is already connected to another network.
If you have persistent problems with Xiaomi’s server, try changing the region in your application settings or checking the status of the servers. Sometimes, technical work on the manufacturer’s side temporarily blocks the ability to add new devices.
