Introduction: Why connect a Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaner to a smartphone?
Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop (including the S10/S12 Pro, E10, Mop 2 Pro and others) is not just a device for automatic cleaning, but a full-fledged element of the smart home ecosystem. Without a phone connection, you lose 80% of its functionality: remote control, creating space maps, setting up a schedule and integrating with voice assistants like Alice or Google Assistant.
It takes no more than 5-7 minutes to connect, but users often encounter errors due to incorrect Wi-Fi settings, outdated robot firmware or conflicts in the Mi Home app. In this article, we will discuss all current synchronization methods (including alternative methods for older models), and also give a checklist for troubleshooting. If you just unpack your device or move to a new access point, save this instruction for bookmarks!
What Xiaomi models support phone connection?
Almost all of the Xiaomi and Mi Robot vacuum cleaners released after 2018 support control through the app.
- πΉ Modern models (S10/S12 Pro, X10+, Mop 2 Ultra: Works with Mi Home or Mi Home Lite, and Wi-Fi support 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz (but you need to set up a setup) 2.4!). Supports voice control and integration with Apple HomeKit (for some regions).
- πΉ Budget series (E10, C10, Vacuum-Mop Essential: 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only, no 5GHz support. Some regions may require Chinese firmware for full functionality.
- πΉ Old Models (Mi Robot) 1S, Mi Robot 2: connect only via old Mi Home (up to 6.0) and may not support modern Wi-Fi encryption standards (WPA3).
Critical point: Xiaomi robots DO NOT work with networks that include client isolation or SSID hiding.
| Model robot. | Supported Wi-Fi frequencies | Required version of Mi Home | Voice assistants |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro | 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz | 6.0+ | Alice, Google Assistant, Siri (HomeKit) |
| Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop Essential | Only 2.4 GHz | 5.5+ | Alice, Google Assistant |
| Xiaomi Mi Robot 1S | Only 2.4 GHz | Up to 6.0 (old version) | Only Alice (limited) |
| Xiaomi S10/S12 Pro | 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz | 6.0+ | All (including HomeKit in some regions) |
Preparation for connection: what to check before starting?
Before you start the synchronization process, make sure that the minimum requirements are met:
- Charging the robot: the battery level should be at least 20%. If the indicator flashes red, connect the device to the dock for 10-15 minutes.
- Wi-Fi router: The robot only supports 2.4GHz networks (even if the model can work with 5GHz after setting up). Turn off guest mode and check that the network does not use WPA3-Enterprise.
- Mi Home: Download the latest version from Google Play or the App Store. Older robot models may require 5.5-5.9 versions.
- Region in Mi Home: choose Russia or China (for some models), changing the region after connecting will result in a device reset!
Important for iPhone users: If you have a Private Wi-Fi address turned on (in your network settings), turn it off while you connect, a feature that can block the robot from connecting to your phone.
Charge the robot vacuum cleaner to 20%+
Connect to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network
Disable guest mode and WPA3
Install the latest version of Mi Home
Select the region "Russia" in the settings of the application-->
How to connect Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Mop to your phone
Consider the standard way to connect via the Mi Home app. If you have a HomeKit-enabled model (like the S10 Pro for the European market), the instruction will be different β see the section below.
Step 1: Enable the robot and reset the settings (if necessary)
If the robot is new, just press the power button for 3 seconds. If the device has been used before, do it hard reset:
- Hold the Power and Home buttons (or Spot Cleaning, depending on the model) for 10 seconds.
- Wait for the beep and voice message in Chinese ("Reset OK").
- The robot will reboot and be ready for a new setup.
Step 2: Adding the device to Mi Home
Open the Mi Home app and follow the algorithm:
- Click + β Add the device in the upper right corner.
- Select the category Robot vacuum cleaner (or enter the model name manually).
- Hold the phone to the robot at a distance of less than 1 meter β the device will emit an audible signal.
- Connect to the robotβs temporary Wi-Fi network (the name will be type) Xiaomi_Vacuum_XXXX).
- Return to Mi Home and select your 2.4GHz home network. Enter your password.
"Can't connect" error?
- πΆ Are there any restrictions on MAC-router.
- π Reboot the Robot and Router.
- π± Turn it off. VPN or a proxy on the phone.
What if the robot doesnβt make sound when connected?
Step 3: Setup after connecting
After successful synchronization:
- Give the robot a name (for example, "Living room vacuum cleaner").
- Update the firmware if an update is available (Settings tab β Software update).
- Set up a room map: start the first cleaning in Full Cleanup mode so that the robot creates a plan for the apartment.
π‘
If the robot is "hanging" while creating a map, check the lighting in the room. In the dark, the lidar (laser sensor) works worse - turn on the lights or use the daytime cleaning mode.
Alternative ways of connecting
If the standard method doesnβt work, try these options:
1. Connect via Mi Home Lite (for older phones)
Mi Home Lite is a lightweight version of the app for Android 5.0+ or weak hardware devices. The interface is simplified, but the connectivity is the same. You can download it here.
Connect via HomeKit (for S10/S12 Pro)
The S10 Pro and S12 Pro models for the European market support Apple HomeKit.
- Connect the robot via Mi Home (as described above).
- Go to Robot Settings β Integration with HomeKit.
- Scan it. QR-code from a box or sticker on the bottom of the robot.
- Add the device to the Home app (iOS).
β οΈ Note: Once connected to HomeKit, some features (such as zone cleaning) may become unavailable in Mi Home!
3. Connection without Wi-Fi (offline mode)
If you donβt have internet access, you can control the robot via Bluetooth (available for S10+ and later models):
- Turn on Bluetooth on your phone.
- Press the power button on the robot for 3 seconds - it will go into pairing mode.
- In Mi Home, select Add Manual β Bluetooth devices.
Offline, you only have basic functions: start/stop cleaning, return to base, and no maps or schedules.
Common mistakes and their solutions
Even with the right settings, users face problems.-5 errors and ways of correcting them:
| Mistake. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Can't connect to the network. | The router uses WPA3 or 802.11r (fast roaming) | Switch the network to WPA2-PSK and disable 802.11r in the router settings |
| The device is not responding. | Robot connected to another network or reset | Perform a hard reset (see Step 1) and reconnect |
| Server error (500/404) | Problems on the side of Xiaomi or blocking by region | Change your region to China or use a VPN |
| I don't see a robot on the device list. | An outdated version of the application or firmware | Update Mi Home and Robot Firmware through Settings β Update |
| Connection is interrupted by 99% | Weak Wi-Fi signal or interference from other devices | Bring the robot closer to the router (by 1-2 meters) and disconnect other gadgets from the network |
β οΈ Note: If the robot was previously connected to another Mi Account, the new owner will not be able to add it without resetting the anchor.
Configuring after the connection: what to do first?
Successful synchronization is only half the battle, and in order for the robot to work efficiently, follow these steps:
- Create a map of the room: πΊοΈ Start cleaning in Full Cleaning (not Zone Cleaning) mode!). πͺ Close all doors so that the robot does not move to other rooms. π After creating the map, divide it into zones (living room, kitchen, etc.) in the Map section.
- Set up a schedule: β° Choose a schedule. β Add and specify the days/time of cleaning. π For models with auto-emptying (e.g, S10+) Set the frequency of container cleaning.
Activate voice control
- π€ In Mi Home, go to Robot Settings β Voice assistant.
- π Connect to Yandex or Google account.
The second user will receive a notification and will be able to control the robot, but will not be able to change the Wi-Fi settings or update the firmware.
