Why does Xiaomi’s official instruction require a router?

The manufacturer insists on connecting via the home Wi-Fi network for a reason, because Xiaomi’s robot vacuum cleaners use a cloud service to manage, where all commands from the phone go to the company’s servers first and then are transmitted to the device, which ensures:

• 🌍 Remote control from anywhere in the world (if the vacuum cleaner has access to the Internet).
• 🔄 Automatic firmware updates without user involvement.
• 📊 Synchronize cleaning cards between multiple devices (e.g., phone and tablet).

But all Xiaomi’s robot vacuum cleaners (except the newest ones with Mi Mesh support) can also work locally, with no cloud, but limited functionality, and that’s the mode we’ll be using. The main drawback is that you can’t control the vacuum cleaner over the Internet, but the basic functions (start cleaning, schedule setting, mode selection) will remain available.

Turn off the mobile Internet (so that the vacuum cleaner does not try to get online)-->
