Xiaomi’s modern robot vacuum cleaners are complex devices that require the right initial setup to work properly. Simply plugging in is not enough, because the full potential of smart cleaning is revealed through the mobile application. Many users face difficulties in the interface phase, not understanding why the device does not see the network or constantly loses connection. Proper setting at the initial stage avoids most errors in the future and ensures the stable operation of navigation algorithms.
The process of integrating the device into the smart home ecosystem takes only a few minutes, if you pre-prepared all the necessary components. You will need a stable 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, since most robot models do not support modern 5 GHz standards. It is also critical to download the official Mi Home or Xiaomi Home app, which acts as a remote control. In this guide, we will analyze every step in detail, from unpacking to building the first room map.

Before you start the pairing procedure, you need to do a series of preparatory actions with the device itself and the charging station. Choose a suitable place for a base in a room with good cross-country access to an electric outlet. The surface should be flat and hard so that the robot can properly dock for charging. Remove from the floor the wire, long-pile mats and other items that can confuse the wheels or sensors during the test run.
Set the charging station against the wall, leaving free space on the sides (minimum 0.5 meters) and in the front (minimum 1.5 meters). This space is needed by the robot to maneuver when leaving and entering the base. Connect the power supply to the network and make sure that the indicator at the station is on fire. Now you can move to activate the vacuum cleaner itself.
Preparation of the device and charging station
The first step is to physically activate the robot vacuum cleaner. If you've just unpacked the device, remove all the transport films and protective materials. Pay special attention to the side brush and the dust container, which are often fixed with tape. Remove the top cover and remove the container to make sure there are no extra parts inside.
An important step is to install a side brush. Match the brush slots with the robot bottom mount and press until the characteristic click. Make sure the brush rotates freely. Then place the dust container back into the body before fixing. Now the device is ready to turn on.

To turn on, press and hold the power button on the device body for 3-5 seconds. The robot will sound the beep, and the indicators will light up. Installation and registration in the Mi Home application

The process of pairing a robot with a Wi-Fi network
Now, to the most important step, which is connecting the device to the Internet, open the Mi Home app and click on the plus in the upper right corner to add a new device, the app will automatically search for gadgets nearby, and if the robot is on and in pairing mode, it should appear in the list of Local Devices at the top of the screen.
If the automatic search didn't work, you can find the device manually through the directory. In the search, type "Robot Vacuum" or select the category "Vaccuums." Find your model in the list (for example, Xiaomi Vacuum Mop 2 or Roborock S5). After selecting the model, the application will ask you to confirm that the Wi-Fi indicator on the device flashes. If it is on or not on, you need to reset the network settings.
To reset network settings on most models, you need to simultaneously press and hold two buttons on the case (usually the on button and the return button to the base) for 5-7 seconds. You will hear a voice message about the transition to pairing mode, and the Wi-Fi indicator will start flashing. Once you've successfully connected, the robot will ask you to name it and choose a room to accommodate, you can call it the Kitchen, the Living Room, or just the Robot, and once confirmed, the device will appear on the app's home screen.
Setting up the map and cleaning areas
Once connected successfully, it is recommended that you do the first complete cleaning to map the room, start the robot from the base and let it move freely around the apartment, do not interfere with it or move the base during the map construction process, and a laser rangefinder (LIDAR) or gyroscopic navigation will scan the space and create a digital plan.
Once you've done the first cleaning, the map will be stored in the device's memory and displayed in the app. You can edit it: divide rooms, merge zones, create virtual walls. Virtual walls are lines on the map that the robot should not move through, and this is useful for restricting access to areas with carpets or places where wires are scattered.

Modern Xiaomi models offer flexible cleaning mode settings. In the application, you can choose the suction force: Quiet, Balanced, Turbo or Maximum. To maintain cleanliness, a sufficiently balanced mode is enough. If there are animals in the house, it is recommended to use maximum power, especially on carpets where wool can accumulate.
One of the most useful features is to set a schedule, so you can set a time to start cleaning for each day of the week, like setting a start at 10:00 when you're already at work, or at 22:00 when you're asleep (if the robot is quiet), which allows you to keep it clean without you being involved.

If you change the Wi-Fi password or the name of the network, the robot will not be able to connect automatically, in which case you will need to reset the Wi-Fi settings on the device itself and go through the pairing procedure again.

Regular maintenance extends the life of the device. If the app says "Device Offline," check if the Wi-Fi light on the case is on. If the light is flashing or not burning, then communication with the router is lost. Try rebooting the router.
