Smart light is no longer a futuristic concept and has entered our apartments, offering not just lighting, but full control of the atmosphere in the house. Xiaomi Yeelight chandeliers stand out in the market for their design and wide functionality, allowing you to adjust brightness and color temperature directly from your smartphone. However, the initial setup process often raises questions from users accustomed to conventional switches.
To successfully launch the device, you will need a stable Wi-Fi connection and an installed Mi Home app. It is important to understand that many models only work in the 2.4 GHz frequency range, so the router must support this standard or have a compatibility mode.
In this article, we will take a closer look at how you can install, pair and fine-tune your new smart chandelier, how to avoid the typical device search issues and how to integrate lighting into a single smart home ecosystem.
Installation preparation and technical requirements
Before you start installing, you need to make sure your electrical network is ready to work with a smart device. Yeelight chandeliers require constant voltage, as commands are transmitted wirelessly. If you are used to de-energizing the chandelier with a wall switch, you will have to change this habit or install a pass switch that always keeps the circuit closed.
Notice the ceiling and fasteners. Smart lights often have a built-in control unit that can be slightly heavier than standard plafonds. Make sure the hook or mounting bar is securely secured in the concrete base.
β οΈ Warning: Before any work with electrical wiring, be sure to turn off the automatic switch in the shield. Work under voltage is deadly and can lead to the failure of the chandelier electronics.
It's also critical to check your wireless network settings. Most Mijia ecosystem devices don't support the 5GHz standard for initial setup. If your router is broadcasting a single network with combined frequencies, sometimes you have to temporarily split them in your router settings or use a guest mode with a forced 2.4GHz.
Physical installation and assembly of the structure
The installation process starts with the removal of the old fixture and the preparation of the wires. You'll need an indicator screwdriver to find the phase, and an insulation tape or plugs to connect. Complete with the Yeelight chandelier, there's usually an mounting bar that is attached to the ceiling with dowels.
Assemble the chandelier body according to the instructions, but do not fasten decorative plafonds for now if they interfere with access to the terminal pad. Connect the chandelier wires to the network: phase (usually red or brown wire) connects to phase, zero (blue) to zero. Grounding is connected if it is provided by the design of the lamp and your wiring.
βοΈ Pre-installing check
Once the wires are connected, carefully hide them in the base of the chandelier and lock the case on the mounting bar. Now you can apply voltage. If the chandelier flashed or emitted a characteristic audible signal, it means that it has gone into standby mode connection.
Registration in the Mi Home app
You will need a Xiaomi account to manage your device. Download the Mi Home app from the official store (App Store or Google Play) and log in. The first time you log in, the system will suggest selecting a region; for devices purchased in China, you often need to choose the region "China", for global versions - your country or "Europe / Russia".
Press the + button in the upper right corner of the app to add a new device. The app will automatically search for gadgets nearby. If the chandelier is in pairing mode, you will see a pop-up asking you to add Yeelight.
If the automatic search fails, manually select the device from the directory. Enter your Wi-Fi network name and password. At this point, it is important that the smartphone is connected to the 2.4 GHz network.
Once the model is selected, the app will show instructions for chandeliers to (pairing) mode, usually by quickly turning on and off the power 5 times in a row until the chandelier blinks quickly. Press "Next" and wait for the configuration process to finish.
Scenario and mode setting
Once successfully connected, you'll find a wide range of customization options, and in the device interface, you'll find several basic modes: Read, Computer, Night, and others, each mode has its own preset brightness and color temperature settings that you can adjust.
The Flow feature, which allows you to create your own scenarios where the chandelier will automatically change color or brightness on a schedule, for example, you can set up a smooth lighting in the morning or simulate the presence of the hosts during the holidays.
| Mode of work | Description | Color temperature |
|---|---|---|
| Reading | Bright neutral light for work | 4000K - 5000K |
| Computer | Reduced eye strain | 3000K - 4000K |
| Night-nighter | Dim warm light | 2700K |
| TV mode | Backlighting | 2700K - 3000K |
To activate scripts, go to the appropriate section of the device menu, where you can combine actions with other smart gadgets to create complex automation chains.
Integration with voice assistants
One of the main features of the smart home is voice control. Yeelight chandeliers work perfectly with Yandex.Alice, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. To integrate with Alice, you need to link accounts in the Yandex application.
Go to the Devices section β Smart Home β Add a Device and find the Xiaomi Mi Home list. Enter the username and password from your Mi Home account. After synchronization, all your chandeliers will appear in the Yandex app.
Now you can control the lights with commands like, "Alice, turn on the light in the living room," or "Alice, turn on the lights." Voice control is especially convenient when your hands are busy or you need to quickly change the atmosphere in the room.
Diagnostics and troubleshooting
During operation, there may be situations when the chandelier stops responding to commands or disappears from the network, most often due to a change in router parameters or a weak signal, make sure that the Wi-Fi signal level at the chandelier installation site is sufficient.
If the device is "hung," try resetting to factory settings. This usually requires 5-10 quick clicks of the switch until the chandelier blinks a certain way, and then the connection procedure will need to be repeated again.
β οΈ Attention: Frequent resets can cause the internal memory of the chandelier controller to wear out, and only use this function if you really need to reconnect.
Also check for firmware updates in the Mi Home app. Developers regularly release patches that improve connection stability and add new features.
