Why Xiaomi lamps aren't always friends with Alice - and how to fix it
Xiaomi smart bulbs (including the Yeelight and Mi LED Smart Bulb brands) have long been the standard for budget smart home systems. But when it comes to integrating with Yandexโs Alice voice assistant, users often face non-obvious problems: the lamp is not on the list of devices, commands are executed late or ignored. The reason lies in the architecture of ecosystems โ Xiaomi is initially focused on its own Mi Home, and Alice works through the Yandex Smart Home platform.
In this article, we will discuss three official ways of connecting (via Mi Home, Yandex Smart Home and third-party services), as well as uncover the pitfalls: why some lamp models (Yeelight Color 2, Mi LED Bulb Essential) require additional firmware manipulation, and how to circumvent geo-blocking restrictions.
Method 1: Connect via Mi Home and then synchronize
This is the most reliable method, but it only works for cloud-enabled lamps (the compatibility list must include Works with Mi Home Cloud).
- Install the Mi Home app (version no lower than 6.5.400) and log in via your Xiaomi account.
- Add the lamp to the Mi Home in the standard way (via Add the device โ Lighting).
- In the lamp settings, turn on the option Cloud Control (without it, Alice will not see the device).
- Open the Yandex app with Alice, go to Smart Home โ Add Device โ Xiaomi and log in with the same Xiaomi account.
An important nuance: if the lamp has already been added to the Mi Home before connecting to Alice, it must be removed and added again - otherwise the synchronization may not work. Also check that the Mi Home settings have selected the region of Russia (for some lamp models, geolocation affects the availability of cloud functions).

Method 2: Direct connection via Yandex Smart Home
Some new lamp models (e.g. Xiaomi Smart LED Bulb BLE) support direct connection to Yandex Smart Home without Mi Home mediation. This method is faster, but does not work with all devices.
- Open the Yandex application and go to the Smart Home โ Add a device.
- Select Lighting category, then Xiaomi brand.
- Follow the instructions on the screen: turn the lamp into the socket, wait for the blinking and confirm the connection.
If the lamp is not located, try:
- ๐ Reboot routers โ sometimes devices canโt see each other due to network conflicts.
- ๐ฑ Update the lamp firmware via Mi Home (even if you connect directly).
- ๐ Change Wi-Fi channel to 2.4 GHz (Xiaomi lamps do not work with 5 GHz).
๐ก
If the lamp flashes but does not connect, try resetting it to factory settings: turn on / off 5 times in a row with an interval of 1 second.
Method 3: Through third-party services (Home Assistant, Yandex IoT)
For advanced users who donโt want to connect to their lamps using standard methods, there are workarounds through Home Assistant or Yandex IoT, which require technical skills but give them full control over their devices.
Example of settings through Home Assistant:
- Install Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi or server.
- Add Xiaomi Miio integration (requires a device token that can be obtained through the Mi Home Token Extractor).
- Configure the link with Alice through the Yandex Smart Home component.
The advantage of this method is the ability to control lamps even without the Xiaomi cloud, as well as create complex automation (for example, turning on the light on the motion sensor).

Xiaomi lamp compatibility table with Alice (2026)
Not all Xiaomi lamps work equally well with Alice, here is the up-to-date compatibility table (data checked for June 2026):
| Model lamp | Alice's support | Mi Home is required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Yeelight Color 2 | โ Yes. | โ Yes. | It works well, but sometimes loses contact. |
| Mi LED Smart Bulb Essential | โ Yes. | โ No (direct connection) | Only through Yandex Smart Home |
| Xiaomi Smart LED Bulb BLE | โ Yes. | โ No. | Supports Bluetooth, but no Wi-Fi control |
| Yeelight LED Ceiling Light | โ ๏ธ Partially. | โ Yes. | Only brightness works, the color does not change. |
If your model is not in the table, check it on the Yandex Smart Home website or in the official Mi Home. Please note: lamps purchased in China (with firmware for the CN region) may not connect to Alice even if you have the right settings.
Common mistakes and their solutions
Even with the right Xiaomi lamp plugged into Alice, users are facing problems.-5 errors and ways of correcting them:
โ ๏ธ Note: If Alice says "Device is not responding" but the lamp is running through Mi Home, the problem is in the cloud bridge.
- ๐ The lamp does not turn on by command Check that in the settings of Mi Home is turned off mode Do not disturb and enabled Remote control.
- ๐ Delayed commands Reduce the number of devices on a single Wi-Fi network or transfer the lamp to a separate 2.4 GHz channel.
- ๐ Alice doesn't see the lamp after reset Remove the device from Mi Home, reset the lamp (5 times turn on/off) and add again.
- ๐ Update the lamp firmware via Mi Home or check the account region (should be Russia).
- ๐ฑ The lamp flashes but does not connect Try connecting via another Wi-Fi network (e.g. mobile hotspot).

Optimization of work: voice commands and automation
Once you successfully connect the lamp to Alice, you can set up voice scripts and automation. Here are some useful examples:
- ๐ Create a script in Yandex Smart Home with a gradual increase in the brightness of the lamp from 7:00 to 7:30.
- ๐ฌ Team "Alice, turn on the movie" - the lamp goes into a warm light with a brightness of 30%.
- ๐ช Automation: If no one is home, the lamp accidentally turns on/off in the evening.
- ๐ก Night Team "Alice, Good Dreams" - the lamp turns blue with a minimum brightness of 1 hour.
Use Yandex Routines to create complex scenarios (in Yandex โ Smart Home โ Routines), for example, you can set up automatic switching off of all lights when you say โAlice, Iโm leavingโ or when the last device leaves the house (by geolocation).
๐ก
The voice commands for Alice are best formulated as simply as possible: โSwitch on the lights,โ โMake the lights blue,โ โSwitch off the lamp in the bedroom.โ Complex phrases with adjectives (โmake the lights a little warmerโ) may not work.
What if the lamp doesnโt support Alice?
If your Xiaomi lamp model is not compatible with Alice (e.g., older Yeelight versions or lamps only for the Chinese market), there are a few workarounds:
- Some lamps (e.g. Yeelight Color) can be reflashed to global firmware via Mi Home (requires an account with Singapore or India region). โ ๏ธ Warning: Incorrect firmware can turn the lamp into a brick. Before the procedure, check the model on the forums (for example, before the procedure, 4PDA).
- Connect the lamp to a smart hub (like the Xiaomi Mi Smart Home Hub or Aqara Hub), and then sync the hub with Alice.
- Xiaomi Lampโs alternative voice assistants often work better with Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa (via Mi Home โ Settings โ Voice Assistants).
If none of these methods worked, consider buying an adapter (such as the Sonoff Zigbee Bridge) that lets you control the lamp through the Home Assistant and then through Alice.
