Voice control of the smart home via Alice from Yandex has become the standard for owners of Xiaomi equipment. However, connecting the hub (gateway) to the assistant often raises questions: why the device does not appear in the list, how to synchronize scenarios or why Alice says “can’t find the device.” In this article, we will analyze all the stages of integration from the preparation of the hub to the setup of complex automations, and also consider the unique nuances of working with Chinese and global versions of firmware.
It’s important to understand that not all Xiaomi hub models are officially supported by Alice. For example, Mi Smart Home Gateway 3 requires additional manipulation of the region in Mi Home, and older versions of gateways (before 2019) may not be recognized at all. We tested the process on current firmware in 2026 and identified key points that save hours of finding solutions.
Which Xiaomi hubs are compatible with Alice?
Before buying or setting up, check your hub model. Officially, Yandex supports the following devices:
- 🔹 Xiaomi Mi Smart Home Gateway 2 (round, with speaker)
- 🔹 Xiaomi Mi Smart Home Gateway 3 (square, no speaker)
- 🔹 Aqara Hub M1S (Compatible in part, requires manual binding)
- 🔹 Xiaomi Mi Home Security Gateway (China version only with firmware) CN)
Gateway 1 and Gateway models v1 (2016-2018) are not supported by Alice due to outdated communication protocol, and there are problems with hubs purchased on AliExpress without official localization – they must be pre-linked to servers in China or Singapore in the Mi Home application.
If your hub isn’t on the list, check its firmware through Settings. → About the device in Mi Home. version below 1.4.1_178.0143 (gateway 2) Requires updates before connecting to Alice.
Preparing Xiaomi Hub for Integration
Before joining Alice, the hub should be:
- Connected to a 2.4 GHz network (5 GHz not supported!).
- Linked to Mi Home account with Russia (or China)/Singapore for informal models).
- Updated to the last firmware (checked in Settings) → Update of the PO).
- Added to Mi Home as the main device (not via Add Device).
Make sure the hub is connected to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi|
Check the region of the Mi Home account (Russia/China)|
Update the Hub firmware to the latest version|
Remove the Hub from other applications (e.g. Home Assistant)|
Restart the hub (disable power for 30 seconds)-->
⚠️ Note: If the hub was previously linked to Home Assistant or Apple HomeKit via HomeBridge, it must be reset to factory settings. API Xiaomi.Reset is done by holding a button on the hub for 10 seconds before the yellow LED flashes.
Step-by-step: Connecting to Alice
The integration process consists of three steps: linking the Mi Home account to Yandex, adding a hub to Alice’s smart home, and setting up voice commands. Let’s take a closer look at each step.
1. Communication of Mi Home and Yandex accounts
Open the Yandex app (not Alice!) and go to the Services section. → Smart home. → Add the device → Xiaomi. The system will redirect you to the Mi Home authorization page. Enter the username and password from the account to which the hub is linked.
⚠️ Note: If you have a Chinese version of the hub (with firmware) CN), When you log in, select China region manually, or Yandex won't see the device:
- On the Mi Home authorization screen, click on the flag in the upper right corner.
- Choose (China).
- Enter the account details associated with the hub.
2.Adding a hub to Alice's smart home
After successful authorization:
- Return to Yandex and update the list of devices.
- The hub will appear in the Undefined Devices section - click on it.
- Select a room (such as the “Living Room”) and confirm the addition.
If the hub is not displayed:
- 🔄 Reboot the hub (remove the power plug for 1 minute).
- 📱 Remove the cache of the Yandex application in the phone settings.
- 🌐 Check that the phone and hub are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
3. Set up voice commands
Once you add a hub, Alice will automatically detect all the sensors connected to it (movements, door openings, gas leaks) and actuators (sockets, lamps).
- 💡 «Alice, turn on the light in the living room" (if the hub is connected to the Yeelight lamp).
- 🚪 «Alice, open the script for "Gone to Work" (if the script is created in Mi Home).
- 🔍 «Alice, what a level. CO₂ In the bedroom? (if the Aqara sensor is connected) TVOC).
To create complex scenarios (for example, “if the motion sensor is working and it is dark outside – turn on the light”), use the Automation section in the Yandex application. Xiaomi Hub will act as a trigger.
💡
If Alice doesn’t recognize the device’s name, rename it to Mi Home in English (e.g., Mi Home, bedroom_lamp Instead of "Bedroom Lamp," this eliminates the problem of encoding characters.
Addressing common mistakes
Even with the right setup, users face typical problems, and we've put together solutions for the most common cases:
| Mistake. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Hub is not displayed in Yandex after authorization | Mi Home account region does not match hub region | Change the region in Mi Home to China and repeat the authorization |
| Alice says "The device is not responding" | Hub is disconnected from Wi-Fi or blocked by router firewall | Check the connection to the 2.4 GHz network and turn off AP Isolation in router settings |
| Sensors do not update status in real time | Lag in synchronization between Mi Home and Yandex | In Mi Home, enable Cloud Synchronization for each sensor |
| Scripts run in Mi Home, but don't run through Alice | The script is created as a local script (without cloud synchronization) | Recreate the script in Mi Home with the option Cloud |
If the problem is not solved, check the hub logs through the Mi Home app (Settings) → Device Logs: Errors with code 1002 or 401 indicate authorization issues – re-connect accounts.
What if the hub flashes red after connecting?
Features of working with Chinese versions of hubs
Hubs purchased on AliExpress or in Chinese stores (e.g. Mi Smart Home Gateway 3) CN), require additional action:
- Change region to Mi Home: Remove the hub from the app. Change your account region to China in your profile settings. Add the hub again, following the instructions in Chinese (use an interpreter).
Chinese hubs do not have direct integration with Yandex.
- Set up webhooks to transfer data to Alice via IFTTT or Node-red.
⚠️ Note: When using Chinese hubs, Alice’s voice commands will be delayed by 2-5 seconds due to routed traffic through servers in China. For critical scenarios (e.g., burglar alarms), we recommend using official global versions of the hubs.
How to manage Mi Home scripts through Alice?
Alice can run cloud scripts from Mi Home, but with limitations:
- 🔧 The script should be created in the Automation section. → Cloud scenarios.
- 📛 The title of the script should contain only Latin characters (e.g., the script, morning_light).
- 🔄 The script should not have more than 60 seconds of delay or Alice will interrupt.
Example of scripting:
- At Mi Home, go to Automation. → Add → Cloud scenario.
- Select a trigger (such as a voice command).
- Add Actions: Turning on the lamp + hub-play.
- Save the script with the title good_morning.
Alice will now respond to the phrase, “Alice, run the script for good morning.”
💡
Scenarios with local triggers (such as motion sensors) cannot be run by voice, only cloud scripts with manual or voice control.
Alternative integration methods (for advanced users)
If a standard connection doesn’t work, consider alternative methods:
1. Through Home Assistant + Yandex. Station.
It will require:
- Install Home Assistant on the Raspberry Pi or NAS.
- Connect the Xiaomi hub through Xiaomi Miio integration.
- Configure a bundle with Yandex through the Yandex Smart Home component.
2. Through the IFTTT service
Algorithm:
- Create an applet in IFTTT Google Assistant (or Webhooks).
- Select Xiaomi Mi Home and select the command.
- Connect Google Assistant to Alice via Yandex Dialogs.
⚠️ Note: These techniques require technical skills and may violate Xiaomi’s privacy policy. use them only if standard integration is not possible.
