Xiaomiβs robot vacuum cleaners have long been indispensable cleaning assistants, but their main advantage β control via a smartphone β works only when connected to Wi-Fi. Without the Internet, you will not be able to start cleaning remotely, set up a schedule or receive notifications about the completion of work. Unfortunately, the connection process does not always go smoothly: the Mi Home application does not see the device, then authentication errors occur, the router refuses to issue IP-address.
In this article, we will explore all possible ways to connect a Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaner to WiFi, from the standard procedure through the application to manual methods for power users, and learn how to fix typical errors (such as Error 1003 or Wi-Fi disconnected), what router settings interfere with the connection, and what to do if the vacuum cleaner βforgotβ the network after reset.
Before you start, make sure you have:
- π± Smartphone with Mi Home app installed (version at least 6.0). Download from the App Store or Google Play.
- π Login and password from your Wi-Fi network (make sure the network is stable).
- π Charged robot vacuum cleaner (minimum 20% battery).
- πΆ Router with support for the standard 802.11 b/g/n frequency-wise 2.4 GHz (5 GHz is not supported!).
1. Standard connection via the Mi Home app
This is the easiest and most recommended way, and it is suitable for most users if the router does not have specific security settings.
- Turn on the robot vacuum cleaner and wait for it to say the greeting in Chinese or English (depending on the firmware), and the case should flash a blue light bulb, which means that the device is ready to pair.
- Open the Mi Home app and click + β Add the device in the top right corner. Select Smart Home β Vacuums.
- In the list of models, find your robot vacuum cleaner (for example, Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro). If you do not have one, choose Another device β Vacuum cleaner.
- The app will suggest connecting to the robot's time network. Click Connect and wait until the smartphone switches to a network of the form of rockrobo-XXXX.
- Return to Mi Home and select your home Wi-Fi network from the list. Enter your password and confirm your connection.
If it is successful, the robot will sound and the app will display its card with the basic functions. Importantly, at this stage, do not switch to other networks on the smartphone - wait for the synchronization to be completed (it can take up to 2 minutes).

2. Manual connection via router settings (if Mi Home does not see the device)
Sometimes the Mi Home app can't automatically transmit Wi-Fi data to the robot, and then the binding will help. MAC-address or backup method through AP-Here's how to do it:
Method 1: Reference to MAC-address
MAC-The address of the robot vacuum cleaner can be found:
- π The label under the cover (usually starts with the 78:11:DC or 7C:2F:80).
- π In the Mi Home app, if the device has been connected at least once before (Settings section) β About the device).
Next:
- Go to the router control panel (usually at 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1).
- Find the section DHCP β Reservation of addresses (or) MAC-filtering).
- Add in. MAC-Robot address and save settings.
- Restart the router and reconnect via Mi Home.
Method 2: Standby AP-regime
If the robot is not connected to your network, but you see its temporary access point (rockrobo-XXXXX):
- Connect your smartphone to the robot network (rockrobo-XXXX).
- Open your browser and enter 192.168.8.1.
- In the web interface that appears, select your Wi-Fi network, enter your password and save it.
π‘
If the router is dual-band (2.4 + 5 GHz), temporarily turn off the 5 GHz network in its settings. Many Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaners do not know how to choose the range automatically and βhangβ at this stage.
3. Typical errors and their solutions
Even with the right actions, the connection can end in error, and let's look at the most common error codes and how to fix them:
| Error code | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Error 1003 | An incorrect Wi-Fi password or network is not supported (5GHz, hidden SSID). | Check the password, make sure the network is running at 2.4GHz and is not hidden. |
| Wi-Fi disconnected | The robot lost its connection to the network after being upgraded or reset. | Reset the network settings on the robot (press the Home button for 5 seconds) and reconnect. |
| Error 1001 | Problems with Xiaomi servers or blocking traffic by the router. | Restart the router and check if it blocks access to the *.mi.com domains. |
| Error 2001 | Incompatible firmware of a robot or application. | Update the Mi Home to the latest version and check for the robot updates. |
β οΈ Warning: If the robot vacuum cleaner was previously connected to another Mi Home account, it must first be deleted from the old account, and the owner of the old account must go to the device settings and select Delete the device!
4. Router settings that interfere with connection
Often the problem is not the robot, but the router configuration, and here are the parameters that can block the connection:
- π Type of encryption: Xiaomi robots only support WPA2-PSK (AES). If you have WPA3, TKIP or mixed mode - change the setting.
- π Hidden SSID: If your network doesn't broadcast the name, the robot won't see it.
- π Filtration MAC-Addresses: If the router has filtering enabled, add MAC-vacuum cleaner address on the list of permitted.
- π‘ Mode of operation: Make sure the router is running in mode 802.11n (not 802.11ac), Turn off the Beamforming function if you have one.
To change the settings:
- Go to the router control panel (the address is usually listed on the device sticker).
- Go to the Wi-Fi section β Security settings.
- Install: Network Mode: 802.11 b/g/n (2.4 GHz) Encryption: WPA2-PSK Version of encryption: AES Channel: Auto (or manually select 1, 6 or 11)
- Save the settings and restart the router.
How do you know? MAC-robot address?
5. Connect to Wi-Fi after resetting settings
If the robot vacuum cleaner has been reset to factory settings (for example, after a sale or malfunction), it will have to be reconnected.
- π Soft reset: Press the Home (or Power) button for 3-5 seconds until you hear the beep. The robot will reboot, but the Wi-Fi settings will remain.
- π§Ή Hard reset: For a complete reset, pinch Home + Spot Cleaning for 10 seconds (for Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro) or use a clip to press the Reset button on the bottom.
After the hard reset:
- The robot will issue a voice message in Chinese (βinitialization completedβ).
- The blue light bulb will start flashing at a frequency of ~1 times per second - this is a signal of readiness for connection.
- Repeat the connection procedure via Mi Home (see Section 1).
β οΈ Warning: After a hard reset, the robot will lose all stored room maps, cleaning schedules and individual settings (such as suction force or no-stop zone!
π‘
Hard reset is a last resort, and before doing it, try reconnecting to Wi-Fi via the rockrobo-XXXX temporary network or updating the robot's firmware.
6. Connection to public or guest networks
Xiaomiβs robot vacuum cleaners donβt work well with guest networks, hotel chains, or public Wi-Fi (such as in cafes).
- π Authorization through the portal (captive portal).
- π Session time limits.
- π« Block traffic to non-standard ports.
If you need to connect to this network:
- Make sure that the network does not require authorization through the browser (for example, entering a login / password on the welcome page).
- If the network is giving IP-address DHCP, But the robot doesn't connect - try manually setting static IP in the router settings (see Section 2).
- For networks with a constraint on MAC-Add the address of the vacuum cleaner to the list of allowed (see the instructions above).
In most cases, it is better to use a mobile hotspot (distribution of the Internet from a smartphone).
- Turn on the hotspot on your phone (set it to 2.4 GHz).
- Connect the robot to this network via Mi Home.
- Once connected, return to the home network (the robot will remember the settings).
7. firmware update to fix Wi-Fi issues
If the robot vacuum cleaner persists in not connecting to the network, the reason may be outdated firmware. Xiaomi regularly releases updates that correct compatibility errors with routers.
- Connect the robot to the rockrobo-XXXX temporary network (if it doesnβt connect to your Wi-Fi).
- Open Mi Home, find the device in the list and go to Settings β Firmware Update.
- If you have an update, download it and install it. Don't interrupt it. The robot will reboot automatically.
If the update cannot be installed through the application:
- π₯ Download the latest firmware for your model from the official Xiaomi Support website.
- πΎ Unpack the archive and place the firmware file (usually with the.pkg extension) in the root of the microSD card.
- π Insert the card into the robot (the slot is under the lid) and turn it on. The update will start automatically.
