Smart-control aero fryers are becoming more popular, allowing you to cook remotely, adjust modes via your smartphone, and even receive notifications when you have finished cooking. If you have a Xiaomi Mi Smart Air Fryer or other compatible model (such as from Mijia or Viomi), it can be connected to a Xiaomi phone in a few minutes. But how do you do it right to avoid synchronization errors or Wi-Fi connection problems?
In this article, we will look at all the ways to connect through the official Mi Home app, the alternative Mi Smart, and also look at the nuances for different models of apertures. You will learn what hidden settings in Xiaomi firmware can block connection to the device, and how to get around them. In addition, we will give recommendations for setting up notifications, managing recipes and solving typical errors like “Device not found” or “Unable to connect to the network”.
What aero fryers are compatible with Xiaomi phones
Not all aero fryers can be connected to a smartphone. To synchronize successfully, the device must support the Mi Home protocol (or Mi Smart) and have a built-in Wi-Fi or Bluetooth module.
- 📱 Xiaomi Mi Smart Air Fryer 3.5L/4L/5.5L — flagship series with Wi-Fi support 2.4 GHz and management through Mi Home.
- 🍳 Mijia Air Fryer Pro – a model with touch screen and integration into the ecosystem Xiaomi.
- 🔌 Viomi Air Fryer (series) V3/V4) — compatible with Mi Home, but requires manual addition via Other Devices».
- ⚠️ Redmi Air Fryer – budget version, connects only via Bluetooth (limited functionality).
If your model is not on this list, check its serial number on the official Xiaomi website or in documents. Devices without a wireless module (for example, mechanical aero fryers) can not be connected - they require an external adapter like Xiaomi Mi Smart Plug, but this is a separate topic.
Also note the region of purchase: Chinese versions of devices (CN) may not support European or Russian Mi Home servers, which will require a change of region in the application settings (discussed below).
Preparing Xiaomi Phone for Connection
Before you start syncing, make sure your smartphone is ready to work with smart devices.
- MIUI version is not lower than 12.5 (for stable operation of Mi Home).
- Free space on the phone is at least 500 MB (Mi Home/Mi Smart apps weigh ~100-150 MB, plus cache).
- Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz – Aero fryers do not work with 5 GHz networks!
- Application permissions: geolocation, network access, notifications.
If you have Xiaomi with custom firmware (like Pixel Experience or LineageOS), you may have problems with Mi Account services.
Install the latest version MIUI|Shut down. VPN/proxy|Insert geolocation|Switch to Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz|Clear the Mi Home cache-->
Pay special attention to battery settings: if the Mi Home is power-saving, the app may not notify you of the completion of cooking or lose communication with the device.
- Go to Settings → Applications → Application Management → Mi Home.
- Select Permissions → Autostart and enable the option.
- In the Battery section, turn off optimization for Mi Home.
💡
If after connecting the aperture is constantly disconnected, try to fasten the Mi Home application in multitasking (swipe up → pin icon).
Step-by-step: Connection via Mi Home
The most reliable way is to use the official Mi Home app.
- Download Mi Home from Google Play or AppGallery (for Huawei).Link: https://home.mi.com.
- Sign up or sign in to your Xiaomi account (required!) without an account, sync is not possible.
- Add the device: Press "+" in the upper right corner. Select "Kitchen" → "Aerofryer." If the model is not listed, click "Other Device" and enter the name manually.
Follow the setup wizard
- Hold the power button on the aperture for 5 seconds until the indicator blinks.
- Connect your phone to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network (if connected to 5GHz, switch!).
- Enter the Wi-Fi password in the app.
If you have a “Can’t Add Device” error during the connection step, try:
- 🔄 Reboot the aperture (remove the fork for 10 seconds).
- 📶 Change the Wi-Fi channel on the router (for example, from 13 to 6).
- 📱 Change region in Mi Home (click on avatar) → Choose “China” or “Europe»).
What if Mi Home doesn’t see the aurora?
Alternative way: Connect via Mi Smart
If Mi Home doesn't work (for example, due to regional restrictions), use the Mi Smart app (formerly Mi Home Lite), which has a simplified interface but supports the same devices.
- Download Mi Smart from Google Play (link: https://smart.home.mi.com).
- Sign in with the same Xiaomi account as you do with Mi Home.
- Click "Add device» → «Fast-wire binding».
- Scan it. QR-code on the body of the aero fryer or enter ID Devices (located on the bottom of the sticker).
Important nuance: Mi Smart may not have Russian for some devices.
- Go to the application settings (cog at the top right).
- Select “Language” → “Follow system settings”.
- If you don’t have the option, set up English (United States) – it usually supports your devices fully.
Once you've successfully connected, the aperture will appear on the list of devices.
- 🔥 Control temperature and cooking time remotely.
- 📊 Choose preloaded recipes (e.g. French fries, chicken wings).
- 🔔 Set up notifications of completion of cooking.
- 📱 Synchronize cooking history with other devices (e.g. tablet).
💡
The Mi Smart app is updated more often than the Mi Home, so new models of aerofryurines may appear there sooner.
Setup of notifications and recipes
Once connected, it is recommended to configure alerts and recipes to automate the cooking process as much as possible.
Notifications
To receive signals about the completion of cooking:
- Open the Aquarius card in Mi Home/Mi Smart.
- Go to “Device Settings” → “Notifications”.
- Enable the options: "Preparedness of the dish" (sound signal + push), "Cooking error" (for example, overheating).
Recipes
The app has a recipe database with automatic temperature and time settings, and you can use them:
- In the device card, select the Recipes tab.
- Scroll through the list or search (e.g., type “fish”).
- Click on the recipe. → «Start cooking».
You can also create your own recipes:
- Installation “Recipes» → «Add».
- Specify name, temperature, time and additional parameters (e.g. stirring).
- Save the recipe – it will appear on your personal list.
Tip: If you don't have the right recipe in the database, try importing it from the Xiaomi community.
- Go to "Profile» → «Community».
- Find a recipe theme for your auro fryer model.
- Download the recipe file (.json) and import it through your device settings.
To create automation (scenarios):
- At Mi Home, go to Automation» → «Add».
- Select a condition (e.g., “Time” or “Location”).
- Add the action: "Manage the aperture" → specify the parameters.
- Save the script.
Example of a useful scenario:
⚠️ Note: If you set up geolocation automation (e.g., “When you go home, turn on the air fryer”), make sure your phone accurately identifies your location. Otherwise, the device may turn on at the wrong time (e.g., if you’re in the yard but not yet at home).
