Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaners come with factory settings in Chinese or English, which creates difficulties for Russian-speaking users. Even if you bought the device in an official Russian store, after resetting the settings or updating the firmware, the Mi Home application interface and voice vacuum cleaner prompts can switch to a foreign language again. In this article, we will analyze all the current ways of Russification through a smartphone on Android – from changing the region in the application to firmware alternative software.
It is important to understand that the process depends on the vacuum cleaner model (for example, Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro Russified differently than Dreame D9) and the firmware version. We tested the instructions on the 2020-2026 devices and identified the only universal method that works on 90% of models without the risk of “bricking”. If your vacuum cleaner does not support Russian in the standard software, at the end of the article we provide a safe workaround using third-party applications.
Why Xiaomi vacuum cleaner does not switch to Russian: the main reasons
Before you try to change the language, check if one of these issues is blocking Russification:
- 📱 The region of the Mi Home account is not Russia / CIS. The application automatically loads localization based on the country indicated during registration. Even if you are physically located in the Russian Federation, but the account is created for China or Europe, Russian will not be available.
- 🤖 Outdated vacuum cleaner firmware models up to 2021 (e.g. Mi Robot Vacuum) 1S) You often need to manually upgrade your home via Mi Home. → Settings of the device → Update of the PO.

Method 1: Change region to Mi Home (works on 80% of models)
This is the safest and most recommended method, which does not require technical skills, and is suitable for vacuum cleaners who officially support the Russian language, but "forgot" it after updating or resetting.
- Open the Mi Home app and go to Profile → Settings → Country/Region.
- Choose Russia (or Ukraine/Kazakhstan if your model was sold in these countries); don't choose China or Hong Kong, that will block Russian.
- Return to the home screen, find your vacuum cleaner in the list of devices and click on it.
- Go to Settings (⚙) → General. → Language, Russian should appear on the list.
- If you don’t have a tongue, restart the vacuum cleaner (hold the power button for 5 seconds) and try again.

Method 2: Manual firmware update via Mi Home
If the change of region didn't work, it could be because of outdated firmware, and many Xiaomi models only get support for new languages after they've been updated.
- Open Mi Home, select your vacuum cleaner and go to Settings → General → Firmware Update.
- If the update is available, click Update. Don't interrupt the process, it could cause the device to crash.
- After updating, check the Settings → Language section. Russian should appear.
If the update is not available or the language has not changed after it, try a forced check:
- Close your Mi Home and disconnect your phone from Wi-Fi/mobile data for 1 minute.
- Turn the internet back on, open the app and check the updates again.

Instructions for Valetudo:
- Download Valetudo from GitHub (select the Android version).
- Connect your phone and vacuum cleaner to a single Wi-Fi network.
- In Valetudo, click Add Device and select your model from the list.
- Enter. IP-vacuum cleaner address (can be found on the router or via the Fing app).
- After connecting, go to Settings → Language and select Russian.
The advantages of Valetudo:
- 🌍 Complete Russification of the interface and voice prompts.
- 🔧 Advanced settings (for example, time-based cleaning areas settings).
- 🚫 No dependence on Xiaomi servers (works even when blocked).
⚠️ Note: When using Valetudo, you lose access to Mi Home cloud features (such as Internet management or voice assistants) and you will have to drop the vacuum cleaner to the factory settings to return them.

Additional adjustments after Russification
After a successful language change, it is recommended to configure:
- 🗣️ Voice prompts. At Mi Home, go to Settings. → Voice. → Voice language and select Russian for some models (e.g. Dreame) D10) Alternative voices available.

- 🔴 "Language changed, but voice prompts remained in Chinese": In Mi Home go to Settings → Voice. → Download the voice packet and select the Russian package.
- 🔴 "After the update, the vacuum cleaner stopped responding to commands: Reset through the button on the case (hold 10 seconds) and connect again.
- 🔴 "No Russian in the list of languages, although the model should support it": Try changing the region of the account to Kazakhstan or Belarus - sometimes this works for models that are not officially sold in Russia.
