Buying smart appliances from Xiaomi is often a pleasant surprise, but sometimes you encounter an unexpected obstacle: the device meets you with a phrase in Chinese or English. The process of changing the language depends on the firmware version and the region to which the device is tied. Now, not all models support full voice translation, and some budget versions have hard-to-stitch Chinese, and you can only change that with a flashing, which requires root rights and deep knowledge, but for most of the current devices on the global market, you just need to do a few simple things on the menu.

Region and device binding check

The first and most important step is to determine the region you chose when you first set up your vacuum cleaner. If you connected your device to China servers, the Russian language may not be available in the settings. Global firmware versions tied to Russia or Europe contain the required audio files.

To check the current region, open the Mi Home or Xiaomi Home app. The top left corner of the profile shows the selected country. If China is there, you'll either have to re-tether the device (which will require resetting) or put up with no translation.
