Why Your Robot Vacuum Is Silent or Speaks Chinese
You bought a Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaner (or the Dreame/Viomi brand under the Mi Home ecosystem), connected it to an iPhone, but instead of the usual โBringing Cleanupโ you hear either incomprehensible Chinese phrases or complete silence? The problem lies in the regional settings of the firmware and application. The fact is that most models of Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaners by default come with Chinese or international firmware, where Russian is either absent or blocked for voice prompts.
To make matters worse, the iPhone voice settings have their own nuances: Apple restricts access to some Android system features, and the Mi Home app on iOS works differently than on Android devices. For example, Mi Home for iOS doesnโt have the direct Voice Packages section that Android does, but you can get around those limitations โ and weโll show you how to do it without the risk of bricking the device.
In this article, you will find 3 ways to add a Russian voice:
- ๐น The official Mi Home app (if supported)
- ๐น By changing the region of the device in Mi Home (for models with international firmware)
- ๐น Through third-party firmware (for advanced users)
Before you start, make sure your robot vacuum cleaner is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your iPhone, and in the Mi Home app it appears in the list of devices without an exclamation point. If the device does not connect, first solve this problem (may need to reset to factory settings).
Method 1: Configure Russian voice through Mi Home (official method)
This method is suitable for models with international firmware, where the Russian language is already sewn into the system, but not activated. For example, you can configure your voice on Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Lite, Dreame D9 or Viomi V3. The main condition is that the Mi Home must be available in the โVoice Packagesโ section (in the iOS version it is hidden deeper than on Android).
Instructions:
- Open the Mi Home app on your iPhone.
- Go to the Profile tab โ Settings โ Country / Region.
- Make sure you choose the โRussiaโ region (if not, change).
- Go back to the main screen, find your robot vacuum cleaner and tap it.
- Go to Settings (โ๏ธ) โ Additional settings โ Voice packets.
- In the list of languages, find โRussianโ and click โDownloadโ.
- After downloading, restart the robot vacuum cleaner (by button on the case or through the application).
If there is no Voice Package, your model does not officially support Mi Home voice change, in which case you will move to Method 2.

If the robot is too quiet after changing its voice, check the volume settings in Settings โ Sound and Alerts in the Mi Home app. Sometimes the volume level is reset after the voice update.
Method 2: Change the device region to "Russia" (for international firmware)
If your Mi Home doesnโt have a voice-packet partition, but the robot vacuum cleaner supports Russian (e.g., Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop P or Dreame Z10 Pro), you can force the device to change region, which will force the system to download Russian voice files from Xiaomi servers.
Important: This method only works for devices with international firmware (not Chinese!).If your robot vacuum cleaner is bought in China and has CN firmware, changing the region may not work - you will need to flash it (see Method 3).
Step-by-step:
- Open Mi Home and go to your robot vacuum cleaner settings.
- Find the General Settings item โ Region (or) Country/Region).
- Select Russia (if it is not on the list, choose Europe or Singapore, then go back and try again).
- Save the changes and restart the robot vacuum cleaner.
- After the reboot, check if the Russian voice is up, and if not, try untie and re-attach the device to your Mi Home account.
โ ๏ธ Note: After a region change, some features may temporarily disappear (for example, integration with Apple HomeKit or Google Assistant.
What if the robot stopped connecting after the region change?
Method 3: Install custom firmware with Russian voice (for advanced)
If the first two methods fail, it remains to install an alternative firmware with support for Russian, a method suitable for models based on Rockchip or MTK chips (for example, Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum 1S, Dreame D9), but it requires technical skills and can lead to loss of warranty or failure of the device.
The firmware will require:
- ๐ฅ๏ธ Computer with Windows or macOS (to work with) ADB and Fastboot).
- ๐ USB-Type C Cable (to connect the robot to a PC).
- ๐ Russian firmware (for example, Valetudo or modified Mi Home firmware).
- ๐ ๏ธ Programs: Mi Home Hack, ADB Tools, Python (for some scripts).
Common algorithm:
- Download firmware with Russian voice (for example, from the 4PDA forum or the Valetudo GitHub repository).
- Connect the robot vacuum cleaner to your computer via USB (it may be necessary to disassemble the case to access the port).
- Run the firmware via ADB or Fastboot (commands depend on the model).
- After firmware, reset your settings and connect the device to Mi Home again.
โ ๏ธ Warning: The wrong firmware can build a robot vacuum cleaner. If you're not sure about your skills, consult a specialist or use the first two methods.

Firmware via ADB is the only way to add Russian voice to Chinese models (with CN firmware), but requires unlocking the bootloader and risks voiding the warranty.
Compatibility table: which models support the Russian voice
Not all Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaners can speak Russian, below is the compatibility chart of popular models, and if your model is not on the list, check it out on forums (for example, 4PDA or Xiaomi Community).
| Model | Support for the Russian voice | Method of setting up | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Lite | โ Yes. | Method 1 or 2 | Requires firmware updates to the latest version |
| Dreame D9 | โ Yes. | Method 1 or 3 | Chinese firmware requires Method 3 |
| Viomi V3 | โ Yes. | Method 2 | After the change of region, integration with Alice may be lost |
| Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum 1S | โ ๏ธ Partially. | Method 3 | Only through custom firmware. |
| Dreame Z10 Pro | โ Yes. | Method 1 or 2 | The international firmware works without problems |
Frequent problems and their solutions
Even after successfully tuning the Russian voice, there may be failures, and here are the most common ones and ways to fix them:
Problem 1: The robot speaks Russian, but the phrases are cut off or sound robotic.
- ๐ Check if the robot vacuum cleaner is near the noise source (e.g. air conditioning).
- ๐ถ Make sure the Wi-Fi signal level at the cleaning site is at least 70%.
- ๐ Reboot the robot (button on the body).
Problem 2: After the region change to Mi Home, the robot stopped responding to commands.
- ๐ Reset the robot settings (press the power button for 10 seconds).
- ๐ฑ Remove the device from Mi Home and add it again by selecting the region "Russiaยป.
- ๐ Check if your router is blocking the robot from accessing Xiaomi servers (open ports 80 and 443).
Problem 3: There is no Voice Packages section in Mi Home.
- ๐ฒ Update the Mi Home app to the latest version.
- ๐ Try changing your account region to Singapore or Hong Kong โ sometimes this opens up hidden settings.
- ๐ง If nothing helps, use Method 3 (firmware).
Alternative ways to manage without voice
If you canโt tune the Russian voice, but you want to understand what the robot vacuum cleaner says, there are a few workarounds:
- ๐ฑ Notifications in Mi Home: Enable push notifications in the app settings. The robot will send text messages about the cleaning status.
- ๐ง Voice assistant: Connect the robot to Alice (Yandex) or Siri (HomeKit), you will give commands in voice, and you will see the answers in the application.
- ๐ Cleaning log: Mi Home has a "Journal" section that displays all the actions of the robot with time stamps.
- ๐ Sound signals: Learn to recognize robot signals (e.g., 2 short squeaks โ start cleaning, 1 long โ error).
If you are critically important to voice, consider buying a model with official support for the Russian language (for example, Dreame D10 Plus or Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro).
