Modern automation systems are no longer a fantasy, becoming an accessible reality for millions of users. One of the most popular devices in the Xiaomi ecosystem is rightly considered a robot vacuum cleaner that is able to take on the routine task of cleaning floors. Xiaomi Vacuum S10 model stands out among competitors advanced laser navigator LDS and powerful suction system, but for proper operation it requires a competent initial configuration.
The installation and initial start-up process can seem challenging to beginners due to the abundance of features in the Mi Home app. Incorrect sensor calibration or errors when connecting to Wi-Fi often lead to the fact that the device is inefficient or constantly loses communication with the server. In this material, we will discuss each stage of the setup in detail so that you can get the most out of your gadget.
Before you start digitally, you need to properly prepare the physical space, the robot must be installed on a flat surface, away from direct sunlight, which can operate infrared collision sensors, and also make sure that around the base station there is free space at least half a meter on the sides and a half a meter in front for a smooth exit.
Preparation of the device for the first launch
The first step is to unpack and visualize the equipment, and inside the box you'll find the machine itself, the charging station, the power cable, the side brushes and the instructions, and it's important to remove all the transport locks, especially those that block the side brush and wheels, because ignoring them will cause the machinery to break when you first turn on.
Next, you need to install a side brush, which is responsible for sweeping debris from under the boards, and it is attached to a special pin on the right side of the bottom panel of the device, and when you install it, it is important to combine the slots and press until you click the characteristic click, and then check the free movement of the brush.
Installing the main brush requires more care. Turn the robot over, open the compartment lid, and insert the roller so that the color markings on the ends match the response parts in the body.
- π Charge the battery to 100% before first use to calibrate the battery cells.
- π§Ή Remove all orange or yellow protective tapes from sensors and wheels.
- π Choose the location for the base in the hallway or living room where the Wi-Fi signal is most stable.
- π Make sure that the socket where the base is connected does not turn off through the light switch.
β οΈ Warning: Do not place the base station on fuzzy carpets or directly in front of the mirror doors of cabinets. Laser rangefinder may mistakenly perceive the reflection in the mirror as an extension of the room, which will knock navigation.
Once you've physically assembled, put the robot on the base, the charging indicator should light up, signaling the start of the process, and while the device is charging, you can prepare the smartphone and the software.
Installation and registration in the Mi Home application
To manage the Xiaomi Vacuum S10, the Mi Home app (also known as Xiaomi Home) is used, it is available for iOS and Android operating systems, and you should download the program exclusively from the official App Store or Google Play stores to avoid malicious modifications.
Once you install the app, you need to create a Xiaomi account or log in to an existing one. When registering, it is important to choose the right region. If your robot vacuum cleaner is designed for the global market, choose your country of residence. If the device is imported from China, you may need to change the region to China, although modern S10 models usually work in any region.
Adding the device is done automatically or manually. Click on the plus in the upper right corner, and the app will start scanning the Bluetooth neighborhood. If the robot is in pairing mode (Wi-Fi flashes), it will appear in the list of available devices.
During the connection process, you will need to enter a password from your Wi-Fi network. Note that most Xiaomi smart devices only work in the 2.4 GHz band. If your router distributes a 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz network under the same name, it may be difficult, in which case it is recommended to temporarily divide the networks in the router settings or use guest network mode.
- π± Make sure your phone has geolocation and Bluetooth enabled.
- πΆ Use the Wi-Fi standard network 802.11 b/g/n (2.4 GHz).
- π Wi-Fi passwords should not contain special characters that can cause parsing errors.
- π If you have problems with connection, try to turn off mobile Internet (4G/5G) smartphone.
β οΈ Warning: If the app is looking for a device for a long time, try resetting the Wi-Fi module on the vacuum cleaner itself. To do this, press the Home and Turn on buttons (or the power button, depending on the modification) at the same time and hold them for a few seconds until the beep is sounded.
Successful connection will be confirmed by the appearance of the device icon on the main screen of the application, from which the stage of fine-tuning the cleaning parameters begins.
Creation and editing of a room map
The first full cleaning with the construction of the map is a critical step: the robot must travel all the available area to the LDS laser rangefinder can capture the contours of the walls and the location of stationary objects, interruption of this process is not recommended.
As you build a map, the device moves around the perimeter and then fills the center of the room with spiral movements, and the smartphone screen will display the plan in real time, and if there are dark or black surfaces in the room, the robot may not see them, considering it a cliff or a chasm.
