Xiaomi’s modern robotic assistants are fundamentally changing the way we think about cleanliness in the home, but once unpacked, the device won’t work at full capacity — the initial configuration requires the user’s attention. The Xiaomi Mop vacuum cleaner can be set up properly, and not only can it be run, but it can also create an accurate map of the room, set up a schedule, and activate wet cleaning functions.
Many owners are struggling to pair a gadget with a smartphone. Wi-Fi connection errors or server region problems can seem fatal, but more often than not, the solution lies in the details. In this guide, we will break down all the nuances of the process so that your robot vacuum cleaner can work the first time without having to reset.
Special attention should be paid to calibrating sensors and configuring areas where cleaning is not required, which is critical for homes with carpets or complex layouts, and competent initialization of the system will save you time in the future and prolong the battery life of the device.
Preparation for the first launch and charging
Before you try to turn the device on or download the application, you need to provide the basic conditions for it to work. Charge the battery to 100%. This will take 3 to 5 hours, but skipping this stage can cause the robot to go into sleep mode in the middle of the setup process.
Make sure the base is properly installed. It should be placed against the wall on a solid flat surface, at least 0.5 meters of free space should be left on the sides of the base, and at least 1.5 meters in the front, so that the robot can freely maneuver when leaving and returning to the dock.
⚠️ Warning: Do not set the base opposite mirrors, glass doors or black carpets (LDS) and IR sensors may misperceive reflections or absorption of light, resulting in loss of orientation.
Check the package: make sure the water and dust container is installed and the side brushes are snapped to the characteristic click. For the Robot Vacuum Mop series, it is also important to check the status of the electronic water pump, if it is designed.

Installation of the Mi Home application and registration
To manage Xiaomi’s smart app, you’ll need the official Mi Home app, which is available on Google Play and the App Store, and you’ll need to create an account or log in to an existing one, and if you’re already using other Xiaomi devices, use the same login.
The critical point is to choose the region when you log in to the application, which depends on which servers will process your device's data. For equipment purchased in Russia or CIS countries, the "Russia" region is most often suitable, but sometimes devices designed for the Chinese market (CN Version) require you to choose the "China" region. If the application does not see the vacuum cleaner, try changing the region in the profile settings.
When registering, make sure that the smartphone is enabled geolocation and Bluetooth. These modules are necessary to automatically detect the gadget in range. The application will request permission to access the local network - be sure to confirm this, otherwise synchronization over Wi-Fi will not be possible.

If the app is looking for a device for a long time, try switching from mobile internet to Wi-Fi and back again, or rebooting the router. Also make sure that the Wi-Fi network is running at 2.4 GHz, since most Xiaomi vacuum cleaners models do not support 5 GHz.
Interconnecting the vacuum cleaner with the Wi-Fi network
The process of connecting to the wireless network is the most important step. Press and hold two buttons on the vacuum cleaner body simultaneously: the on button and the return button to the base (or the clean button, depending on the model). Hold them for about 5-7 seconds until the voice module reports the transition to pairing mode and the Wi-Fi indicator starts flashing.
In the app, click "Add device." The system will automatically find the vacuum cleaner. If that doesn't happen, select the model from the directory manually. Enter the password from your Wi-Fi network. Please note: the password must be entered without errors, taking into account the register of characters.
When connecting, keep your smartphone next to the vacuum cleaner. Don't switch to other apps or lock your phone screen until it's 11 percent or higher. Once you've successfully connected, the app will prompt you to name the device (like Kitchen Vacuum) and assign it to a specific room.
If the connection is 99% down, it often means the router is blocking the connection or the signal is too weak, in which case try temporarily disabling the VPN on your phone or using the access point from another phone for initial setup.
First scan and map construction
Once you've successfully connected, you need to do the first scan of the room, remove any extra items from the floor: wires, socks, toys, the robot should move freely throughout the area, start Quiet Cleaning or the standard mode through the app.
During the first cleaning, don't lift the robot in your arms or move the base. The device builds a virtual map, guided by a laser rangefin. If you interfere with the process, the map may be torn or incorrect. Let the device completely clear and return to base.
Once you've finished cleaning, you'll see a notification in the app that you save the map, save it to be able to edit the zones, and let you divide the room into rooms, name it, and set different cleaning modes for each zone.

Wet cleaning settings (Mop)
The wet cleaning function is available in Mop or Vacuum & Mop models. To activate, you need to install a water module. Depending on the model, this can be a simple cloth cloth tank or a smart module with an electronic pump that regulates the water supply.
Pour clean tap water into the tank. Using hot water or water with added detergents (unless it's a Xiaomi special fluid) is prohibited, as it can damage the electronic pump and filters. Twisting the lid tightly to avoid leaks.
In the app, select Wet Cleaning or Combined Mode, you can adjust the water supply intensity: low, medium, high, for daily cleanliness of low intensity, and for dried spots of high.

Management of zones and virtual walls
One of the most useful features of smart vacuum cleaners is the ability to control cleaning areas. In the app, go to map editing mode. Here you can draw rectangles for cleaning only in a specific place (for example, around the dining table) or create forbidden areas.
No-Go Zones prevent the robot from entering certain areas, and it's perfect for protecting long-pile carpets, or places where the animal's bowl is, or areas with wires, and the robot will ignore those areas even if they're in the path.
There's also room separation, and if the robot makes a mistake and combines the kitchen and the hallway into one room, use the "Separate" tool with the demarcation line, which will allow you to set different cleaning scenarios for different rooms in the future.

To optimize your work and noise, adjust your suction modes. In quiet mode, the robot works silently, but it may not be as good at removing dust from carpets. In Max or Turbo mode, cleaning efficiency is maximum, but noise levels increase.
You can set up a schedule to automate the process, you can set the cleaning time for each day of the week, for example, on weekdays at 10:00 when you're not home, and a full general cleaning on Saturday mornings.
Don’t forget to enable Do Not Disturb (DND) function. At a predetermined time (e.g., at night or during lunchtime), the robot won’t start on schedule and won’t emit audible signals even if it gets stuck.
