Xiaomiβs robot vacuum cleaners have long been popular with a combination of affordable pricing and advanced features, but many users face one problem: the default voice prompts sound in Chinese or English. Especially annoying when the vacuum cleaner reports charging, errors or finishing cleaning in an obscure language. Fortunately, you can install Russian voice even through an iPhone β without a computer and complex manipulations.
In this article, weβll look at all the current ways to Russify voice alerts, from official methods through the Mi Home app to alternative solutions using third-party firmware. Youβll learn which vacuum cleaners support language change, how to avoid typical iOS setup errors, and what to do if your voice hasnβt changed, and a detailed guide with visual cues for those who are afraid of breaking something.
Important: the procedure for the iPhone is different from Android instructions! There is no direct access to the device's file system, so you'll have to use workarounds. But don't worry, we've tested all the methods on the latest versions of iOS 17 and vacuum cleaners firmware from 2023-2026.
1. Which Xiaomi vacuum cleaners support the Russian voice?
Not all Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaners are capable of playing voice alerts in Russian, and here is a complete list of devices for which Russification is officially or unofficially available:
| Model vacuum cleaner | Official support of the Russian | Need firmware/hacking? | Compatibility with iPhone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Lite | β Yes (via Mi Home) | β No. | β Complete. |
| Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro | β Yes. | β No. | β Complete. |
| Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop P | β No. | β Yes (Valetudo/silk-stitch) | β οΈ Partial |
| Xiaomi Robot Vacuum S10/S10+ | β Yes (since 2023) | β No. | β Complete. |
| Xiaomi Dreame D9 | β No. | β Yes, only Valetudo) | β οΈ Limited. |
If your model is not in the table, check it on the Mi Home website under Supported Devices. For older vacuum cleaners (for example, Xiaomi Mi Robot 1S), the Russian voice may not even be in alternative firmware.
β οΈ Note: Vacuum cleaners of the Dreame series (for example, D9, D10) It often requires full flashing to change the language, which cancels the warranty and can lead to a lock on the device. ADB.
2.Official method: change the language through Mi Home to iPhone
The easiest and safest method is to use the official Mi Home app, which is suitable for most new models (S10, Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro, etc.), where the Russian localization is already sewn into the firmware, but disabled by default.
Step-by-step:
- Update the Mi Home app to the latest version in the App Store (version 6.5.400 is still relevant at the time of writing).
- Connect the vacuum cleaner to the app: π Turn on the vacuum cleaner and make sure it emits an audible signal. π± At Mi Home, press + β Addition of a device β Robot vacuum cleaner. π Select your model from the list and follow the instructions on the screen.
Go to the vacuum cleaner settings
- π On the main screen of the application, tap on the icon of your vacuum cleaner.
- βοΈ In the upper right corner, click on the gear (Settings).
- π Scroll down to the General Settings section β Language of voice.
- Choose Russian from the list. If you don't have it, update the vacuum cleaner firmware (see section 4).
- Save the changes and restart the vacuum cleaner (Power button for 10 seconds).
If the settings do not include "Voice language", then your model does not officially support language change, in which case move to alternative methods (section 5).
Update the Mi Home app in the App Store
Connect the vacuum cleaner to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi
Charge the vacuum cleaner by at least 50%
Check the firmware version in the device settings-->
3.Why does the Russian voice not appear after the change of language?
Even after setting up properly in Mi Home, the vacuum cleaner can continue to "speak" in Chinese, and here are the main reasons and solutions:
- π Outdated firmware: Russian voice added only in the latest updates. Check the software version in Settings β About the device and update (see section 4).
- πΆ Connection problems: The vacuum cleaner must be connected to Wi-Fi (2.4GHz only.
- π Disabled alerts: Some models have voice messages turned off by default. β Voice alerts.
- π± Mi Account Region: If your Xiaomi account is registered in China, change region to βRussiaβ in your profile settings.
- π§ Sync failure: Remove the vacuum cleaner from the app and add it again.
Critical detail: for models Vacuum-Mop 2 Lite/Pro Russian voice packets are downloaded from Xiaomi servers only when you first connect to the Russian region. If you initially connected a vacuum cleaner in another region, you will have to reset it to factory settings!

4. Update the vacuum cleaner firmware through the iPhone
If your model doesn't have Russian voice because of the old firmware, it needs to be updated. Unfortunately, the iPhone doesn't support direct firmware download via ADB, but you can use the official method via Mi Home:
Instructions:
- Open Mi Home and select your vacuum cleaner.
- Go to Settings β About the device β Update firmware.
- If a new version is available, click Update. Important: don't interrupt the process! The vacuum cleaner will reboot several times.
- After updating, check the "Voice Language" section - Russian should appear.
If the update is not available:
- πΆ Connect the vacuum cleaner to another Wi-Fi network (sometimes Xiaomi servers are blocked by the provider).
- π Restart the vacuum cleaner (hold the power button for 10 seconds).
- π± Remove and reinstall Mi Home.
- π Change your account region to βRussiaβ (in profile settings).
β οΈ Attention: Some users try to update their firmware through their friends' Android devices and then return to their iPhones. This can lead to a setting conflict.
π‘
Before updating your firmware, turn off the Traffic Savings feature in your iPhone settings (Settings β Cellular β Data Settings β Traffic Savings) to speed up your files.
5. Alternative methods: Valetudo and third-party firmware
If the official methods didnβt work, the radical option is to install an alternative firmware like Valetudo, which is open source software that replaces Xiaomiβs standard firmware and adds support for Russian, as well as advanced features (such as cloud-free zoning).
But there are nuances:
- β οΈ Loss of warranty: Any firmware manipulation will void the warranty.
- π§ Difficulty for iPhone: There are no direct firmware tools on iOS (unlike Android with iOS) ADB). You will need a computer (Mac or Windows) or a Linux machine.
- π The risk of blocking: Xiaomi can block the device for using unofficial software.
If youβre ready for experiments, hereβs a quick guide (the full version with details is in the spoiler below):
- Download Valetudo and firmware for your model.
- Connect the vacuum cleaner to your computer via USB (you need a USB-C/OTG adapter for your iPhone, but it doesnβt guarantee work!).
- Use the Python script to download the firmware (GitHub instructions).
- After installation, connect to the vacuum cleaner through the browser on the local IP-address.
Detailed instructions for installation of Valetudo
For iPhone, the process is complicated by the lack of full support for ADB and the limitations of iOS. If you do not have access to a computer, it is better to contact specialists or use official methods.
6. Frequent errors and their solutions
When you Russify your voice over your iPhone, you're going to have a typical problem, and we've collected some of the most common ways to fix them:
| Mistake. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| No "voice language" item in Mi Home | Outdated firmware or model does not support Russification | Update your firmware or use Valetudo |
| The vacuum cleaner does not connect to Wi-Fi | The router only works in the 5 GHz band. | Switch your router to 2.4GHz mode or use a separate network |
| The voice changed, but it sounds robot-like. | Incorrectly loaded voice packets | Reset the vacuum cleaner settings and repeat the procedure |
| Mi Home has a "failed to update" error | Xiaomi servers are not available or blocked by the provider | Use a VPN (Region of Russia) or wait a few hours |
| After the update, the vacuum cleaner does not turn on | Firmware process interrupted | Hold the power button for 20 seconds to reset |
If none of the methods worked, check:
- π Model compatibility: Your vacuum cleaner may not support Russian voice even in alternative firmware.
- π Power: During the upgrade, the vacuum cleaner must be connected to charging.
- π‘ Wi-Fi signal: Weak signal can interrupt firmware loading.
π‘
Before any firmware manipulation, check the vacuum cleaner model on the Valetudo website or in official Xiaomi documentation. Some devices (such as the Dreame D9) require complete disassembly for firmware!
