Integrating Xiaomi’s smart home ecosystem with Yandex’s voice assistant opens up new possibilities for automating cleaning. Voice control allows you to run a cleanup, send your device to base, or request cleaning status without having to pull out your smartphone, which is especially handy when your hands are busy or you’re in another room.
The setup process requires a series of sequential actions in Mi Home and Yandex. It is critical that accounts in both apps are tied to the same region (usually Russia), otherwise the synchronization of devices will not occur. In this article, we will discuss in detail each stage of pairing.
Not all models of robot vacuum cleaners support direct integration through the cloud. Some budget versions of Xiaomi Vacuum require intermediate gateways or special plugins. However, most current models released in the last three years are stable and respond quickly to commands.
Preparation of equipment and software
Before you start setting up, make sure all components of your smart home system are ready to go.The basic requirement is to have a stable 2.4GHz Wi-Fi connection, as most Xiaomi devices do not support 5GHz. IP-addresses and does not block connections by protocol MQTT.
Two mandatory programs must be installed on the smartphone: the official Mi Home app (or Xiaomi Home) and the Yandex app with the activated Smart Home skill. API-Keys to Cross-Platform Interaction.
Also check the status of the robot vacuum cleaner itself. The device must be on, connected to a Wi-Fi network and displayed in the device list in the Mi Home app. If the robot is displayed as "offline" or has error status, voice control will not work.
⚠️ Note: If you have previously linked your Mi Account to another service (e.g. Google Home or HomeKit), check your security settings. In rare cases, multiple active sessions can cause authorization conflicts when you try to add a new skill.

Step-by-step instructions for linking accounts
The sync process starts with the Yandex app. Open the app on your smartphone and go to Devices. In the upper right corner, click the + button or select "Device not found?" then scroll down to the smart home category.
In the list of manufacturers that opens, find the Xiaomi logo (sometimes called “Mi Home”). Click on it and the system will redirect you to the authorization page. Here you will need to enter the username and password from your Mi Account, which you used to set up the vacuum cleaner.
Once you have successfully logged in, Yandex will request permission to access the devices. Confirm the action, and the system will start looking for compatible equipment. This process can take anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds. Once completed, your robot vacuum cleaner will appear on the list of devices.
- 🔹 Open the Yandex application and go to the section “Smart home».
- 🔹 Click the Add New Device button and select the Xiaomi manufacturer.
- 🔹 Enter your Mi Account credentials and confirm your login.
- 🔹 Wait for the synchronization to be completed and the robot appears on the list.
What to do if Yandex does not see the vacuum cleaner?
Set up scripts and voice commands
Once you've successfully linked, you get a basic set of commands, but the power of a smart home is revealed through scripting. In Yandex, go to Scripts and click Add Script. Select Phrase or Time as a condition, and in actions, start cleaning.
You can create complex logic chains. For example, when you say "Alice, I'm leaving," the robot can start cleaning and the smart lights can turn off. To do this, add a trigger condition for the phrase and a few actions in the script settings, including the command "Start cleaning for the Xiaomi Vacuum device."
Voice commands can be customized. The standard set includes phrases like "Put the vacuum cleaner on," "Send the vacuum cleaner to base," "What status is the vacuum cleaner," and you can rename the device in the Yandex app to refer to it by name, like "Robot in the living room."
| Team Alice. | The robot's action | Conditions required |
|---|---|---|
| "Switch on [device name]" | Starting a full cleanup | Robot on base, tank empty. |
| "Send [name] to base." | Interruption and return | Active cleaning |
| "What status is [name]" | Voice report | Internet availability |
| "Switch off [name]" | Pause or refund | Depends on the model. |
Expanded Opportunities through Yandex Station
Yandex Station smart speakers have added benefits: The device can act as a trigger to start cleaning on schedule or geolocation. Using the Geozones feature, you can customize the scenario: when a user's smartphone leaves the radius of the house, Alice automatically sends the vacuum cleaner to clean.
Integration with other ecosystem devices is also available. If an Aqara or Xiaomi water leak sensor detects an accident, the scenario could send the vacuum cleaner away from the danger zone or, conversely, lock it so that it does not spread water throughout the apartment (if the model supports a stop).
For advanced users, settings are available through Home Assistant with integration into Yandex through the “Home with Alice” skill, which allows you to create complex automations that are not available in standard applications, for example, to start cleaning only if the humidity in the room is below 60%.
⚠️ Note: When setting up geolocation scenarios, consider data latency. The robot may start cleaning late in the day. 1-2 minutes after the phone actually left the area of the house.
💡
Use the "Do Not Disturb" mode on Yandex if you're afraid that Alice's loud voice response about cleaning status will wake someone up at night.
Solving typical synchronization problems
The most common problem is desynchronizing the status of the device. In the Mi Home app, the robot can show that it is being removed, and in Yandex it can show that it is sleeping. This is solved by rebooting the skill: untie the Xiaomi account in the Yandex app, wait a minute and re-attach it.
Another common mistake is, "The device is not responding." This is often due to Xiaomi servers in your area being slow or blocked by the provider. DNS-servers in a router to a public one (for example, 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1).
If the robot vacuum cleaner is the Chinese version (Chinese language in the app, region China), the standard binding may not work, such devices require you to create a separate account with the region “China”, add the device there, and then link this particular account to Yandex.
- 🔸 Check if the regions in the Mi Home and Yandex apps coincide.
- 🔸 Try to change it. DNS-servers in router settings.
- 🔸 Remove and add the device again in the Mi Home app.
- 🔸 Make sure that no technical work is done on Xiaomi servers.
Limitations and compatibility of models
Not all robot vacuum cleaner functions are available through voice control. Generally, Alice can only run a standard cleaning or send to base.Silent Cleaning Mode setting, selecting a cleaning room or installing virtual walls are often not available and require the use of the main Mi Home app.
Early generation models, such as the Xiaomi Vacuum 1 or early versions of the Roborock S5, may have limited commands or run unstable due to changes in communication protocol APIs.
It is important to understand the difference between direct integration and intermediation. Direct integration works faster, but depends on the manufacturer's servers. Gateways (local) work faster and without the Internet, but are more difficult to set up and require a Home Assistant server.
💡
Voice control is ideal for basic operations (start/stop), but fine-tuning the map and zoning will still require a smartphone.
