Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaner’s voice messages decoding: what do sounds and phrases mean?

Xiaomi's robot vacuum cleaners have long since ceased to be just a cleaning technique, becoming fully integrated into the smart home ecosystem. One of the key features of the Mi Robot Vacuum, Viomi or Dreame is that it can give voice alerts about job status, errors, and even successful completion of cleaning. But what exactly do these beeps and phrases mean in Chinese or English? Why did the vacuum cleaner suddenly start "talking" in the middle of the night, and how do you tell the warning from a critical error?

In this article, we will fully decipher all voice messages of Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaners, including models with Mi support. Home/Xiaomi Home and Dreamehome: You’ll learn how to set up an alert language, what to do for specific errors (from a stuck wheel to lidar issues), and how to distinguish standard notifications from signals that require urgent intervention. Special attention will be paid to hidden voice commands, which the manufacturer does not document, but which can save the equipment from failure.

1.What models of Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaners "speak" and in what languages

Not all Xiaomi vacuum cleaners are equipped with a voice module. Loud alerts support the following series:

  • 🔊 Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Series (including 2 Pro, 2 Ultra) – Chinese/English/Russian (in new firmware)
  • 🔊 Viomi V Series (for example, V2 Pro, V3 Max) – polyphony with the choice of language in the application
  • 🔊 Dreame D9/D10/Z10 Pro - English + Chinese (Russian appears after manual firmware update)
  • 🔊 Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Turbo – basic sound signals only (without speech)

Important: Even if your model does not officially support Russian, it can be activated via Mi Home, selecting the region of Russia or Turkey (in some firmware). ADB or third-party utilities like Valetudo.

How to check for voice support in your model:

  1. Open the Mi app Home/Dreamehome.
  2. Go to the Device Settings → Voice alerts.
  3. If there is no point, your vacuum cleaner emits only sound signals (squeaks).

2. Decoding of standard voice messages

The standard phrases fall into 3 categories: status notifications, warnings and errors, and the full table below is a full table of translations and actions.

Sound/Phrase (original)TranslationWhat does it mean?Action
"Qiáng tǐ qīngsǎo wánchéng" / "Cleaning completed"Cleaning complete. The vacuum cleaner returned to base and completed the task. You can send it to a new cleaning or turn it off.
"Dìtǎn zūài" / "Stuck" + squeakingStuck. The robot cannot move (caught in wires, carpet, etc.).Release the vacuum cleaner and press Continue in the application.
"Dǎsǎo tóu bèi kàngzhǐ" / "Brush entangled"Brush blocked. In the main or side brush wound hair / threads.Clean your brushes (see section 4).
Long beep (3 seconds) + "Bùnéng chōngdiàn"Can't charge.Problems with base contacts or battery.Wipe the contacts with alcohol, check the power base.
"Lídá shībài" / "Lidar error" + red-lightLidar errorLidar is contaminated or damaged.Clean the lidar glass with a dry napkin (see section 5).

⚠️ Warning: If a vacuum cleaner repeats the same phrase more than 3 times in a row, it is a sign of a critical error "Wùliào xiāng qīngkòng" ("Empty the container”) in combination with the flashing of the red indicator means that the dust collector sensor is jammed – disassembly is required.

💡

If the vacuum cleaner starts to "drum" indistinct sounds, check the speaker for dust. Often enough to blow the hole to sound compressed air.

3. Hidden voice commands and debugging messages

In addition to documented phrases, Xiaomi’s robot vacuum cleaners can deliver service voice messages that are not described in the manual.

  • 🔧 Firmware updates -- phrase "Gēngxīn zhòngqǐ..." ("Update launched...").
  • 🔄 Resetting settings - after holding the buttons Home + Food sounds like it "Chóngzhì chénggōng" ("Resetting successfully").
  • 🛠️ Activation of the diagnostic mode - when pressing Home (5 seconds) + On/off (2 seconds) vacuum cleaner pronounces "Cèshì mósì" ("Test mode").

These commands are useful for manual testing of sensors, such as in diagnostic mode, the vacuum cleaner checks in turn:

  1. Lidar (rotation and reflection of the beam).
  2. Collision sensors (bumper).
  3. Brushes and fan.

How to exit diagnostic mode: Press and hold the On/Off 10 seconds before the audible signal.

How to turn on the hidden voice assistant on Viomi V3
Press sequentially: Nutrition → Home. → Nutrition → Home. → Food (with intervals of 1 sec) vacuum cleaner will pronounce "Kāiqǐ zhìnéng jiāotáng" ("Intelligent dialogue activated and will respond to commands of the type "Qǐng qīngsǎo shōufáng" ("Clean up the living room").

4. brush and fan errors: what to do when blocking

The most common voice warnings are those that involve brush jamming or fan overload, and let's look at the typical scenarios.

  • 🧹 The main brush: phrase "Zhǔ shuābù gǔzhàng" ("Main brush blocked. Causes: Wrapped hair/threads. Foreign object (coins, buttons) Bearing wear (replacement of brush required).
  • 🌀 Sidebrush: "Cè shuābù yìcháng" ("Side brush anomaly. Usually to blame: Contamination of the axis of rotation. Bent shaft (after impact).
  • 💨 Fan: "Fēngshàn qīdòng shībài" ("Fan start error. Most often a clog in the duct or a turbine failure.

⚠️ Warning: If the error is repeated after cleaning the brushes, do not start the vacuum cleaner - this can lead to overheating of the engine. V3 dreame D10 when blocking the brush more than 5 times in a row, the engine power is automatically turned off to protect.

Cleaning instructions:

Turn off the vacuum cleaner.

Turn over and remove the main brush (click on the latches on the sides)

Remove the coiled hair with tweezers

Check the axis of rotation for wear (backlash is not allowed)

Lubricate bearings with silicone lubricant (1 drop)

-->

5. Problems with lidar and navigation: decoding signals

Lidar is the most vulnerable part of a robot vacuum cleaner, and if the vacuum cleaner is spinning around or not building a map, listen to the voicemails.

MessageReason.Decision
"Lídá wūgōng" ("Lidar is contaminated")Dust/fingerprints on lidar glass.Wipe the glass with a lilaless napkin with isopropyl alcohol.
"Lídá xiànwéi yìcháng" ("Lidar beam anomaly")Direct sunlight or mirror surfaces.Close the curtains, remove the mirrors from the robot's path.
"Lídá mòshì shībài" ("Lidar model error")Firmware failure or sensor damage.Update the software or contact the service (calibration is required).

🔍 Diagnostics of lidar manually:

  1. Turn on the vacuum cleaner and wait for the lidar to start (characteristic buzzing).
  2. Hold your hand against the glass – if the beam is not reflected (no red dots on your arm), the lidar is faulty.
  3. Check the rotation of the lidar: it should be smooth, without jerks.

In Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro models, lidar can be recalibrated via Mi Home:

Settings → Additional → Calibration of lidar

The process will take 2-3 minutes, the vacuum cleaner will rotate in place.

💡

If after calibration lidar still gives an error, check the power supply of the sensor with a multimeter (voltage should be 5V ± 0.2V).

6.Speechless Sounds: What Squeaks and Melodies Mean

Not all Xiaomi models are equipped with a voice module - many use beeps, melodies.

  • 🎵 1 short squeak - start cleaning / return to the base.
  • 🎵 2 short squeaks – low battery charge (less than 20%).
  • 🎵 3 long squeaks - critical error (reboot required).
  • 🎵 Continuous squeak - clogging of a dust collector or duct.
  • 🎵 5 Note Melody – Successful Firmware Update.

In the Dreame models D9 viomi V2 sound signals can be turned off through the application:

The device settings → Sound alerts → Off.

But we don’t recommend doing this – some errors (such as overheating the battery) are accompanied by sound!

⚠️ Warning: If the vacuum cleaner makes a high-frequency whistle while operating, it is a sign of a turbine malfunction.

7. How to Change the Language of Voice Alerts

By default, Xiaomi's robot vacuum cleaners speak Chinese or English.

  1. Open the Mi Home or Dreamehome app.
  2. Go to the device settings.
  3. Find the voice alerts (Voice Prompts).
  4. Select the language you want from the list (if not, you need a firmware update).

For Viomi and Dreame models with unofficial firmware (for example, Valetudo), the language changes via the web interface:

http://[IP_Volet]/miio/voice_pack

Download a file with the.vp extension for the desired language (can be found on the forums) 4PDA Xiaomi Community).

📌 List of supported languages (by model):

  • 🌍 Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Pro: Chinese, English, Russian, Spanish.
  • 🌍 Viomi V3 Max: + German, French, Italian.
  • 🌍 Dreame D10 Plus: only Chinese/English (Russian - via firmware).

💡

If the vacuum cleaner is silent after changing the tongue, try to reboot it by holding the On/Off button for 10 seconds.

8. Frequent questions about voice messages

The vacuum cleaner speaks Chinese, although the settings are Russian. How do you fix it?
This is a typical problem of Viomi and Dreame models with multilingual firmware. Solutions: Update the firmware through the official app. Install an alternative firmware (like Valetudo) with support for Russian. Reset to factory settings (Settings). → If nothing helps, the Russian voice pack may not be available in your version of the software. Contact Xiaomi for support with the model and firmware version (Settings) → About the device).
Can I turn off voice alerts completely?
Yes, but not recommended. In the Mi Home app, go to: Device settings → Voice alerts → However, some critical errors (overheating, blocking the brush) will only be accompanied by audible signals, which can also be turned off, in which case you risk missing the breakdown).
The vacuum cleaner started talking indistinctly or quietly.
Causes and solutions: 🔊 Contaminated speaker - blow the hole with compressed air or gently clean with a cotton swab. 🔊 Firmware failure – update the software through the application. 🔊 The speaker is damaged - replacement is required (details are worth it) ~300-500 If the problem is firmware, try resetting to factory settings. In Viomi models, press Power. + Home on. 10 seconds.
How to turn on voice control of the vacuum cleaner (for example, “Start cleaning”)?
Voice control (not to be confused with alerts!) is supported only by models with built-in microphone: Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop 2 Ultra (Chinese version). Viomi V3 Pro (with firmware) 3.5.4_2003 Activation: Make sure the vacuum cleaner is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the smartphone. In the Mi Home app, turn on the Voice Assistant. Say, "Hey Mi Jia, qǐng qīngsǎo" ("Ei Mi Jia, start cleaning. For Russian, voice control doesn't work, only Chinese/English.
After the firmware update, the vacuum cleaner stopped talking.
This is a common problem when updating through Mi Home.Solutions: Reset settings (Settings) → Reset. Install the voice packet manually: Download the file voice_pack_ru.vp (for example, 4PDA). Download it via Valetudo or ADB. Roll back the firmware to the previous version (if voice is critical). If nothing helps, write in support of Xiaomi with error logs (Settings are critical). → System Logs).
