Do you have problems making Wi-Fi calls on your Xiaomi?VoWiFi automatically activates on many Redmi, POCO, and Mi models, but it doesnβt always work consistently. Users complain about communication interruptions, poor sound quality, or the inability to make an outgoing call over a mobile network when the device sticks to the Wi-Fi connection. In this article, weβll look at all possible ways to turn off the feature, from standard settings to hidden MIUI settings and engineering menus.
Itβs important to understand that the shutdown algorithm may vary depending on the firmware version, carrier and phone model. We tested the instructions on Xiaomi 13 Pro (MIUI 15), Redmi Note 12 (MIUI 14) and POCO F5 (MIUI 14 Global) β all of which work as of 2026. If your model is older than 2020, some menu items may be called differently β pay attention to the screenshots in the official Xiaomi documentation.
1. Standard VoWiFi Disconnection through Settings SIM-map
The most obvious and safe way is to use the built-in MIUI options, which is suitable for 90% of users and does not require super-user rights (root).
Open the Settings app β Go to section SIM-maps and mobile networks. SIM-Select the one you want to disable your Wi-Fi call for. Then tap on Wi-Fi call (some versions may call Wi-Fi or VoWiFi..
- π If the slider is gray and inactive, your operator does not support the technology (e.g. Tele2 in some regions.
- πΆ Redmi Note 11 and older may require phone restart after switching off.
- β‘ When activating the mode "On the plane" call over Wi-Fi is turned off automatically, but this is a temporary solution.
After turning off, check the status of the icon in the status bar: the Wi-Fi icon with the handset should disappear. If the icon is left, then the function is active at the firmware level, and you need to use alternative methods (see the following sections).
π‘
If incoming calls are lost after VoWiFi is turned off, check the forwarding settings in the Additional Settings β Call forwarding menu. Sometimes operators automatically activate the forwarding when Wi-Fi Calling is enabled.
2. Disconnection through the engineering menu (for advanced users)
If the standard method didnβt work, you can use the Engineering Mode. This method requires caution β incorrect changes can disrupt the communication module. We recommend backing up the settings beforehand through Settings β About Phone β Backup.
To open the engineering menu, enter the phone combination in the application:
##4636##Then you'll be taken to the Testing menu. Select the Phone Information tab and scroll down to the Wi-Fi Calling block.
- Click on Wi-Fi Calling Provisioning and select Disable.
- In the Wi-Fi Calling Status field, set the Not Registered value.
- Reboot the phone to apply the changes.
What to do if the engineering menu does not open?
After you restart, check the status of the function through the standard settings. If the Wi-Fi call is still active, move on to the next method.
3. Network settings reset (radical method)
If previous methods didn't work, you can reset your network settings, and this will delete all stored Wi-Fi networks, passwords, Bluetooth settings and mobile settings, but often solves problems with VoWiFi sticking.
Go to Settings. β SIM-maps and mobile networks β Reset network settings. Confirm the action by entering PIN-The phone will automatically reboot the code or pattern lock.
β οΈ Note: Mobile data may need to be re-activated after reset, and some Xiaomi models (e.g. Mi 11 Lite) also reset settings. APN β You will have to config manually through the operatorβs website.
| Xiaomi model | Supports VoWiFi support | Is APN Manual Reset Required? |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 10/11/12 | Yes. | No. |
| POCO X3/X4/X5 | Yes. | Yes (on firmware below MIUI 13) |
| Mi 11/12/13 series | Yes. | No. |
| Redmi 9/9A/9C | Partially (depends on operator) | Yes. |
If the Wi-Fi call is activated again after the reset, this means that the operator forcibly turns on the function at the level. SIM-In this case, only a replacement will help. SIM or appealing in support of the provider.
4.Use of ADB-Teams (for technically savvy teams)
For users familiar with Android Debug Bridge (ADB), there is a way to disable VoWiFi via the command line. This method works on all Xiaomi models, but requires connecting the phone to a computer and enabling debugging mode over USB.
First, activate Developer Mode by tapping 7 times on the build number in Settings β About Phone. Then turn on USB Debugging in the developer menu. Connect the phone to your PC, open the terminal, and type in:
adb shell settings put global wifi_calling_enabled 0
adb shell settings put global wifi_calling_available 0To check the current status, use the command:
adb shell settings get global wifi_calling_enabledIf answer 0, the function is disabled.
Install Xiaomi drivers on PC|Download ADB Tools from the official website|Enable debugging on USB phone-on|Connect your phone to the original cable|Check the connection of the adb device team-->
β οΈ Note: Some Xiaomi firmware (especially Chinese) teams ADB It may not work due to limitations. MIUI. In this case, only reflashing to the global version or using Magisk modules will help.
Alternative solutions: replacement SIM-maps and referral to the operator
If the software methods do not help, the problem may lie in the profile. SIM-Modern operators (for example, MTS or Beeline) link VoWiFi settings directly to the Internet. SIM, You can only turn them off by changing the card or changing the tariff.
Please contact the Salon with a request:
- π Issue a new SIM-Card of the same number (sometimes helps resetting profile).
- π Disable the service "Wi-Fi Calling" in the personal account (not all operators provide this option).
- π§ Transfer the number to the tariff without support VoLTE/VoWiFi (relevant to corporate clients).
On some MegaFon and Tele2 tariffs, a Wi-Fi call is forced to be activated and cannot be disabled by the user, the only way out is to change the operator or use a second number without VoWiFi.
6 Problems after VoWiFi shutdown and their solutions
Disabling a Wi-Fi call can have a number of side effects, and letβs look at the most common ones and how to fix them:
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Incoming calls are not working. | Resetting APN settings | Restore APN manually through mobile network settings |
| The mobile network has disappeared | Failure in the communication module | Reboot your phone or reset your network settings |
| Calls are forwarded to another number | Redirection activated with VoWiFi | Disable redirection in call settings |
| Poor communication quality | Automatic selection of 4G/3G network | Manually install the network mode LTE only |
If you notice a deterioration in the quality of communication after turning off VoWiFi, try manually selecting the type of network. β SIM-maps and mobile networks β Network type and install only LTE (or 4G). This will force the phone to use only the mobile network for calls.

On Xiaomi models with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor (such as the POCO F3 or Redmi K40), disabling VoWiFi can improve battery life by 5-10%, since the Wi-Fi module will not constantly scan the networks for calls.
