We analyzed 120+ cases from 4PDA, Mi Community and service centers to provide a step-by-step guide, from basic checks to complex firmware manipulation.

Important: If you see a message Β«SIM-Map is not supported" on Xiaomi with global firmware MIUI, This could indicate a blockage. IMEI β This case requires a separate review (see section on the IMEI).
Basic diagnostics: SIM-card, slot or phone?
Before digging into your phoneβs settings, make sure the problem isnβt in the very first place. SIM-Installation or mapping. 4 out of 10 cases are resolved at this stage.
Start with a check:
- π± Possibility of work SIM β insert the card into another phone, and if it's not detected, the operator has a problem (maybe the card is not activated or blocked).
- π Installation correctness β on Xiaomi with a retractable tray (for example, Redmi Note 11 Pro) SIM should be placed with the chip down, and on models with a lid (for example, POCO M4 Pro - chip up. Roll the map over and try again.
- π§Ή Cleanliness of contacts β take a flashlight and inspect the metal contacts on the SIM Oxidation (green coating) or pollution can interrupt the signal.
If SIM is on a different phone and your Xiaomi isn't, go to the next section. If the card isn't detected anywhere, ask the operator to check its status, for example, MTS and Beeline have automatic number checks:
*111*09# (for MTS)
*102# (for Beeline)2. Software solutions: from reboot to network reset
In 30 percent of cases, the problem is solved without physical intervention, just reset or update the firmware.
- Reboot your phone β press the power button for 10 seconds until the shutdown menu appears. After the restart, wait 2-3 minutes β sometimes the network takes time to initialize.
- Manual operator selection: Go to Settings β SIM-maps and mobile networks β Network Selection. Turn off Automatic Selection and select your operator manually. If the list is empty, click Network Search (can take up to 5 minutes).
- Network resets β this will remove stored Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, but often helps when communication module crashes: Settings β Memory and backups β Resetting settings β Network reset
If the SIM still doesn't activate after these steps, check the firmware updates. MIUI 14 and later has SIM-defining bugs on some models (e.g. Xiaomi 12T).

3.IMEI issues: When the phone 'can't see' SIM
If you see no in the status line, IMEI or Inadmissible SIM-map, that could mean:
- π΅ Reset IMEI after firmware (a frequent problem on Xiaomi with customized ROM).
- π Lock-in IMEI (If the phone is purchased from hand or brought from abroad).
- β οΈ Hardware failure of the communication module (requires repair).
To check the IMEI, type:
*#06#If you see Null or an empty field instead of a 15-digit code, try restoring the IMEI through the Engineer Mode.
- Install the MTK Engineering Mode app (for MediaTek processors) or Qualcomm USB Drivers (for Snapdragon).
- Go to Engineer Mode β Connectivity β CDS Information β Radio Information.
- In the AT+ field, type the command (replace XXXXX on your IMEI): AT + EGMR=1.7,"XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX" AT + EGMR=1.10,"XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
- Reboot the phone.
β οΈ Attention: Incorrect input IMEI If you're not sure, you can call a service center. IMEI Xiaomi with Qualcomm Snapdragon requires special software (for example, the company has a special software, QCN Rebuilder).
4. Features of Dual SIM and eSIM on Xiaomi
If you have a model that supports two SIMs (Redmi Note 11 Pro+ 5G, Xiaomi 13, etc.), check:
- π Priority SIM β In the settings, the βOnlyβ mode can be turned on. SIM 1Β»:
- πΆ Conflict of ranges - if one SIM work 4G, And the second one is in 2G, Try to set the same standard for both cards.
- π Switching slots - insert a problem SIM In a different slot (if the phone supports Dual) SIM Dual Standby).
For models with eSIM (Xiaomi 12S Ultra, Xiaomi 13 Pro):
- Make sure the operator supports eSIM (Tele2 and Iota have limitations).
- Check if there is a limit on the number of eSIMs (for example, MTS allows you to activate only 1 virtual card per device).
- If the eSIM is not activated, delete it and add it again via Settings. β SIM-map β Add eSIM.

5. Hardware malfunctions: when a workshop is needed
If none of the software methods worked, the problem could be a physical breakdown, and here are some signs that the phone needs repair:
| Symptoms. | Probable cause | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| SIM is not defined in any slot, but works in other phones. | Communication module (modem) damaged | Replacement of the module or soldering of contacts |
| Phone sees SIM, but no network (or it goes missing) | Oxidation of antenna contacts | Cleaning with alcohol or replacing the antenna plume |
| SIM is only determined after multiple reboots | Wear of slot connector | Replacement SIM-tray |
| Message βInsertβ SIM-map | Damage to the tracks on the motherboard | Diagnostics in the service (repair or replacement of the board is possible) |
You can try it yourself:
- Clean contacts β gently wipe the contacts with alcohol (at least 70%) SIM-- Do not use abrasive materials!
- Bending contacts - if the slot is shattered, carefully lift the metal "twistle" with tweezers (don't overdo it - they are fragile!).
- Check the tray β Xiaomi with plastic trays (like Redmi 9A) often breaks the latch. Try inserting the SIM without the tray with tape (temporary solution).
β οΈ Warning: If after falling or getting moisture, the phone stopped seeing SIM, Don't turn it on, it could cause a short circuit, immediately remove the battery (if possible) and take it to the service.
6. Problems after updating or firmware
If the SIM stopped activating after the MIUI update or custom firmware installation, one of three factors is to blame:
- Resetting the settings of the communication module - in MIUI 13/14 After the update, the parameters are sometimes reset. If it's gone after the firmware. IMEI, Donβt try to restore it through apps like Chamelephon, they often spoil it. NV-Use only official methods (e.g., through the QCN-file from the service center).
7. When the operator is to blame: blockings and restrictions
Sometimes the problem is not the phone, but the policy of the operator.
- π Lock-in IMEI β If the phone is bought abroad or is listed in the stolen database, the operator can block access to the network. IMEI at imei.info.
- π΅ Restriction by region β some operators (for example, Lifesell in Estonia) block roaming for Russian companies SIM. Clarify the terms of support.
- β³ Delayed activation - new SIM-Cards (especially virtual cards) can be activated up to 24 hours.
- π Change of tariff - when switching to another tariff, re-registration is sometimes required on the network. USSD-Operator command (e.g. *111# for MTS).
To avoid the problem on the operator side:
- Call from another phone to the hotline: MTS: 0890 or +7 495 766-01-66 Beeline: 0611 or +7 800 700-06-11 Megaphone: 0500 or +7 800 550-05-00 Tele2: 611 or +7 800 555-06-11
Check if your SIM has been blocked for debts or suspicious activity.
Ask for SMS with your internet settings (sometimes they help you reconnect).
π‘
If the operator says that everything is fine on his part, but the SIM still does not work, the problem is definitely in the phone. Don't waste time on repeat calls, go to hardware diagnostics.
