Xiaomi Mi Wireless Mouse
2.4 GHz
Bluetooth
The mouse supports Bluetooth 4.0+ and is compatible with most modern devices: Windows, macOS, Android, and some iPad and Linux models. But there are important features that the manufacturer does not mention, such as why the mouse may not appear in the list of available devices or why the connection is interrupted after a few minutes.
If youβve already tried to connect Mi Wireless Mouse over Bluetooth and have encountered a problem, first check three key points: battery charge (the indicator should flash when turned on), pairing mode (activated by holding a button) and compatibility of your device with the Bluetooth LE protocol.
1. Preparing the mouse for connection
Before pairing, make sure the mouse is ready to go. On the case of Xiaomi Mi Wireless Mouse, there are only two buttons: left / right and the on / pair button (located on the bottom panel).
1. Charge the device. If the mouse is discharged, connect it to the USB-The charging indicator will light up red (when fully charged, it will go out). For the first connection, it is recommended to charge the mouse at least 30 times%.
Activation of the coupling mode:
Turn on the mouse hold the button for 3 seconds (indicator blinks blue)|
Make sure the indicator flashes at intervals of ~1 second (search mode)|
Turn off USB-dongle (if connected) β the mouse cannot work simultaneously at 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth|
Check that the mouse is within 1 meter radius of the device (for the first pairing)-->
3. Reset previous connections (if the mouse has already been paired with another device). To do this, hold the switch on 10 seconds until the indicator flashes three times red, which will return the mouse to the factory settings.
β οΈ Warning: If the light is constantly blue (without blinking), the mouse is already connected to another device via Bluetooth, in which case first break the connection on that device or reset as described above.
2. Connection to Windows 10/11
On a Windows PC, the Xiaomi Mi Wireless Mouse connects via a standard Bluetooth manager, but there is a caveat: some users experience a device not found error due to driver conflict.
1. Open Settings β Devices β Bluetooth and other devices and turn on Bluetooth.
2. Click "Add Bluetooth or other device" β select "Bluetooth".
3. In the list, find MI Mouse (or Xiaomi Wireless Mouse) and select it. If the device doesn't show up:
Is the mouse not visible on the Bluetooth device list?
4. Once successfully paired, the mouse will appear in the list as "Connected." If the cursor is not moving:
Reboot the mouse (turn off / turn on the button).
- Check that in Settings β Devices β Mouse selected the main mouse button (sometimes the setting for left-handed is confused).
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| The mouse is connected but not working. | Conflict with USB-dongle or other Bluetooth device | Turn off the dongle and restart the mouse. |
| The connection is interrupted after 1-2 minutes | Power-saving Bluetooth mode in Windows | Disable "Allow Disconnection of This Device to Save Power" in Bluetooth Adapter Properties |
| The mouse is not on the list. | Outdated driver or Bluetooth 3.0 | Update the driver or use USB-dongle |
3. Connection to macOS
On a MacBook or iMac, pairing is easier, but there are specific points: for example, a mouse can connect as an "Input Device" but not respond to clicks.
1. Open System Settings β Bluetooth and make sure the adapter is on.
2. Click "Connect" next to MI Mouse in the list. If the mouse does not appear:
Reboot the Bluetooth module: hold Shift + Option and click on the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar β select Reset Bluetooth module.
Check that the mouse is in pairing mode (the indicator flashes blue).
3. Once connected, the mouse may not work properly due to conflict with macOS settings.
Open System Settings β Mouse and reset the tracking speed to the average.
If the scroll wheel is running backwards, tick the tick "Scroll in the direction: natural."
β οΈ Note: Some versions of macOS (e.g. Monterey 12.3)+) Xiaomi mouse can shut down after sleep. To avoid this, turn off the option "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake up this computer" in the power saving settings.
4. Connect to an Android smartphone or tablet
Android interface is possible, but has limitations: the mouse will only work in the system interface (for example, to navigate the menu), but will not replace the sensor in games or graphics editors.
1. Open Settings β Connected Devices β Connection Settings β Bluetooth.
2. Turn on Bluetooth and click "Device Search".
3. In the list, find the MI Mouse and tap it. If the device is not:
Make sure your smartphone supports Bluetooth LE (most models after 2016 are yes).
Disable the power saving mode (it can block the connection of the periphery).
4. After pairing, the mouse will control the cursor (on Android 9+ it appears automatically).
π‘
On some smartphones (for example, Xiaomi with a MIUI shell) to activate the cursor, you need to turn on "Mouse Mode" in Special Options β Pointer Control.
5. Linux connection (Ubuntu, Mint, etc.)
On Linux systems, the Xiaomi Mi Wireless Mouse is usually automatically determined, but additional drivers may be required for full functionality.
1. Make sure the bluez packet is installed (responsible for Bluetooth). If not, set it with the command:
sudo apt install bluez2. Turn on Bluetooth via the control panel or terminal:
sudo systemctl start bluetooth
sudo systemctl enable bluetooth3. Start a search for devices:
bluetoothctlIn the bluetoothctl console, type:
power on
agent on
scan onWait for MI Mouse to appear on the list (e.g. Device XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX MI Mouse).
Connect the mouse:
pair XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
connect XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX(substitute XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX real MAC-mouse-address).
If the cursor moves in jerks, install the libratbag package to set up the DPI:
sudo apt install libratbag-toolsπ‘
On Linux, the mouse can run unstable due to the lack of proprietary drivers. In this case, use a USB-dongle to connect over a 2.4 GHz radio channel.
6. Solving typical problems
Even after successful pairing, users encounter errors, and here are the most common ways to fix them:
- π Mouse discharges quickly: Turn off the indicator light (if it burns constantly) or use a cable to connect in wired mouse mode (the mouse will charge while running).
- π±οΈ Cursor moves with delay: Check that the mouse is connected over Bluetooth LE, On Windows, turn off the option "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake up your computer".
- π The mouse shuts down after 1-2 minutes of inactivity: This is a power saving feature. On Windows, turn it off in Device Manager. β Properties of Bluetooth adapter β Power management.
- π« Mouse does not connect after OS update: Reset mouse settings (hold the 10 seconds button) and repeat pairing. on macOS, you may need to remove the mouse from the list of devices and reconnect.
If none of these methods worked, check the mouse on another device. If the problem persists, the Bluetooth mouse module may have malfunctioned. In this case, contact the Xiaomi service center (the warranty is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase).
7. Comparison of Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz connectivity
The Xiaomi Mi Wireless Mouse supports two types of connection. Which one should you choose?
| Parameter | Bluetooth | 2.4 GHz (USB-dongle) |
|---|---|---|
| Delayed input (latency) | 10-15 ms (depending on adapter) | 5-8ms (more stable) |
| Radio of action | Up to 10 metres (theoretically) | Up to 15 meters. |
| Compatibility | Any devices with Bluetooth 4.0+ | Only PC/laptops from USB-port |
| Energy consumption | Higher (the battery goes down faster) | Below. |
| Convenience | No need to borrow. USB-port | More stable connection |
For games or graphics work, it is better to use USB-dongle, which provides less latency. Bluetooth is more convenient for office work or connecting to a smartphone / tablet.
