Why Xiaomi is not running a call and how to fix it

Did you miss an important call because the phone didn't signal? Or did you stop receiving incoming calls after the MIUI update? The Xiaomi call problem is one of the most common among the brand's users. The reasons can lie in both basic audio settings and system failures after the firmware. In this article, we'll look at all the ways that the call is enabled, from obvious to hidden MIUI features that even experienced owners don't know about.

Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO have a flexible customization of audio profiles, sometimes users accidentally turn off the ringtone via Do Not Disturb Mode or the settings of a particular contact. Other times, MIUI optimizations are to blame, which automatically mute the sound in the background. We tested all methods on models from Xiaomi 11T Pro to Redmi Note 12, the instruction is universal for most devices on MIUI 12-14.

Checking basic sound settings

Start with the obvious: it's possible that the call is disabled at the system level, and MIUI has a separate section for managing call sounds that is often ignored.

1. Open Settings (the gear icon on the main screen).
2. Go to Sound and Vibration.
3. Select the phone sound.
4. Make sure that the call volume slider is not zero and not turned off.

If everything is fine, check the sound profile:

• 🔔 Sound – Standard mode with melodies and vibrations.
• 🔕 No sound – turns off all signals (including alarm clocks!).
• 📳 Vibration – The phone will only vibrate when making calls.

Some models (such as the Xiaomi 13 Pro) have an optional Smart Mode switch that automatically adjusts the volume depending on ambient noise. If it is active, try turning it off for the duration of the test.

Set up a call melody for individual contacts

In MIUI, you can assign a unique tune to each contact, or you can turn off the sound for specific numbers altogether. If the call doesn't work only when you're calling from certain people, check:

1. Open the Contacts app.
2. Select the contact you want and click Edit (pencil icon).
3. Scroll down to the Call Sound block.
4. Make sure there is no No Sound or Default (unplugged).

If you have an individual tune set for the contact, but the calls are still not accompanied by sound, try resetting the settings:

On models with MIUI 14 (for example, Xiaomi 13 Ultra) there is a bug: after resetting to the factory settings, individual contact melodies are reset, but this is not displayed in the interface.

Checking the "Do Not Disturb" mode

The Do Not Disturb (DND) function in MIUI can block all notifications, including calls, and it is activated not only manually, but also on a schedule or when connecting to Bluetooth devices (for example, in a car).

1. Go to Settings → Sound and vibration → Do not disturb.
2. Make sure the switch at the top of the screen is turned off.
3. Check the Schedule tab – it is possible that the DND is automatically enabled at a certain time.
4. In the Exclusions section, see if calls are disabled for all contacts or specific groups.

On POCO F5 and other pure Android models (without MIUI shell), the path will be different: Settings → Google → On-device Services → Don’t Disturb. Here, you should also check the Priority Notifications settings – sometimes they are reset after updates.

If you miss calls frequently due to Do Not Disturb mode, add important contacts to Favorites and allow sound notifications for them in DND exceptions.

Resetting the sound settings to the factory

If previous methods didn't work, try resetting all the sound settings, which will bring back the factory melodies, volume and profiles without affecting personal data.

1. Open the Settings. → The phone.
2. Click on All settings (or additionally, depending on the model).
3. Select Settings Reset.
4. Slip on the Reset sound settings and confirm the action.

Once the phone is reset, check if the incoming call is sounding, and if the problem persists, move on to a deeper diagnosis.

⚠️ Note: Some firmware (e.g. global) MIUI For Redmi Note 11, there may be no audio reset option. In this case, use the full reset to factory settings, but pre-back up the data via Settings. → Additionally. → Backup and reset.
