Recording phone conversations on the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10S can be useful in a variety of situations, from fixing important business negotiations to saving memorable conversations with loved ones. However, the standard settings of MIUI are not always obvious, and in some regions the recording function is completely hidden due to legal restrictions. In this article, we will analyze all the available ways β from built-in tools to third-party applications β and also explain how to avoid typical errors in saving records.
The Redmi Note 10S (m1804d7sg) feature is that call recording is implemented through the Dictaphone system application, but its behavior depends on the MIUI version and regional firmware. For example, in European builds, the function can be blocked at the kernel level, and in global builds it can require additional permissions. We tested all methods on current versions of MIUI 13/14 and prepared universal solutions.
Checking the support of call recording in your firmware
Before you start setting up, make sure your version of MIUI supports recording conversations at all.The thing is, Xiaomi often limits this feature depending on:
- π Firmware regions (global, Chinese, European, Indian)
- π± Versions MIUI (In assemblies older than 12.5, the recording algorithm has changed)
- π SIM card type (on some operators, the record is blocked automatically)
To check for support:
- Open the Phone app and dial ##4636##.
- Go to the section Phone Information β SIM-card status.
- See the Voice Call Recording line: If the Supported value is available, if Not Supported, workarounds will be required.
Important: On MIUI 14 for the European Region (EEA), call recording is disabled by default due to GDPR, but it can be activated through hidden settings.
Method 1: Integrated MIUI recorder (official method)
If your firmware supports recording, the easiest way is to use the system app Dictaphone. Here's how it works:
- When you call, click on the Record icon in the call interface. If you don't have one, read the next section.
- After the conversation is over, the record will automatically be saved in the folder. MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec.
- To listen to the recording, open the Dictaphone application β Call tab.
If there is no record button, try to turn it on manually:
- Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management.
- Find the phone and open the permissions.
- Activate permissions for Microphone and Warehouse.
- Return to Phone Settings β Additional β Special Features β Record calls and turn on the option.
Check the version. MIUI In Settings β The phone.|Update your firmware to the latest stable version|Clear the phone app cache|Check the available space on the device (needs at least 500 MB)-->
β οΈ Note: Some firmware stores records in.amr format, which not all players support. VLC or MX Player.
Method 2: Hidden MIUI settings (for firmware without a write button)
If the call interface doesn't have a record button, you can activate it through the engineering menu, which works on most versions of MIUI, but you need to be careful.
- Open the phone app and enter the code: ##847###
- In the menu that appears, select Call Settings β Call Record.
- Activate Auto Record or Record All Calls.
- Save the settings and restart the phone.
If the code doesnβt work, try an alternative:
- Install Activity Launcher from Google Play.
- Find it in the list of com.android.incallui.
- Start the.settings.CallSettingsActivity activity.
- In the menu that opens, find the call recording section.
| Activation method | Works for MIUI. | Requires root. | Keeps records. |
|---|---|---|---|
| The button in the call interface | 12.5β14 (global) | β No. | β Yes. |
| Engineering menu (#847##) | 11β14 (all regions) | β No. | β Yes. |
| Activity Launcher | 12β14 (EEA/Global) | β No. | β οΈ Sometimes. |

If the button never appears after activating the recording via the engineering menu, try resetting the Phone app to Settings β Applications β App Management β Phone β Storage β Clear Data. This will not delete your contacts, but will reset all personal call settings.
Method 3: Recording through ADB (for power users)
If previous methods did not work, you can turn on the call recording via ADB (Android Debug Bridge. This method does not require root rights, but it will require a computer and a computer. USB-cable.
Instructions:
- Enable USB Debugging in Settings β About Phone β MIUI version (click 7 times, then go back to Additional β For Developers).
- Connect your phone to your PC and open the command line (Windows) or terminal (macOS/Linux).
- Enter the commands in turn: adb shell settings put global call_recording_support 1 settings put global call_recording_auto 1
- Reset the device.
After that, a recording button should appear in the call interface, and if not, check if your carrier blocks the recording (for example, Beeline or Megafon in Russia sometimes restrict this feature).
β οΈ Attention: On some firmware MIUI 14 after ADB-The commands will work, but the files will be saved in encrypted form. To listen to them, you will need to transfer the recordings to your PC and use Audacity with a plugin for.amr.
Method 4: Third-party applications for recording calls
If the built-in methods don't work, you'll have to use third-party apps. 10S:
- π± Cube Call Recorder ACR β Supports automatic recording, cloud storage and encryption. ADB.
- π€ Call Recorder by Lovekesh β simple interface, recording format.mp3, but may conflict with MIUI.
- βοΈ Automatic Call Recorder β saves recordings on Google Drive, but the free version has a limited recording time (5 minutes).
How to set up Cube ACR:

Why canβt recording apps work on MIUI?
Where records are stored and how to keep them
By default, call records on the Redmi Note 10S are saved to:
- π /storage/emulated/0/MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec/ β dictaphone.
- π /storage/emulated/0/CallRecordings/ β for most third-party applications.
- βοΈ Google Drive/CallRecordings/ β if synchronization is enabled.
So the records don't get lost:
- Copy them regularly on your PC or in the cloud (for example, through Mi Cloud or Google Drive).
- Turn off battery optimization for the Dictophone app in Settings β Battery β Battery Optimization.
- Use file managers like Solid Explorer or FX File Explorer to quickly find records by date.
| Type of record | File format | Where to find | How to reproduce |
|---|---|---|---|
| Built-in dictaphone | .amr or.m4a | /MIUI/sound_recorder/ | Any player with AMR support (VLC, MX Player) |
| Cube ACR | .mp3 or.wav | /CallRecordings/ | Any player. |
| Automatic Call Recorder | .3gp | /ACR/ | QuickTime or VLC |
Solving Call Recording Problems
If the recording is not working, check the following points:
- π No sound in the recording β turn on speaker while talking or check if the microphone is blocking the case.
- π΅ Recording is terminated β disable Battery Optimization for Dictator App.
- π Files are not saved β check the Warehouse permissions and free space (need a minimum of 100 MB).
- π΅ Grey Record button β your operator is blocking the function (try another one) SIM-map).
If the problem is not solved, try:
- Update the firmware to the latest stable version (via Settings β System Update).
- Reset network settings in Settings β SIM-maps and mobile networks β Resetting network settings.
- Install an alternative dialer, such as Google Phone (requires removal of the Phone system application via ADB).

If the record stopped working after the MIUI update, try rolling back to the previous firmware version via the Mi Flash Tool. Often new MIUI builds block the recording due to tighter privacy policies.
