How to enable the display of Internet speed on Xiaomi smartphones: all ways

Real-time Internet speed is a useful feature for gamers, streamers and anyone who monitors connection quality. On Xiaomi smartphones, this option is hidden in the depths of MIUI settings, and in newer versions of firmware it has been removed from the standard interface. In this article, we will discuss all the working ways of activating network speed display, from official settings to hidden commands for the engineering menu.

It's important to understand that the methods differ depending on the version of MIUI (12/13/14/15) and the device model. For example, on POCO F5 with MIUI 14, the path to settings is one, and on the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ with HyperOS, a completely different one. We tested the instructions on 15+ models and collected current data for 2026, including workarounds for devices without built-in option.

Why Xiaomi doesn’t have a default Internet speed display?

Xiaomi has removed the Internet speed widget from public settings since MIUI 12 for several reasons:

  • πŸ“‰ Battery savings: Constant monitoring of traffic consumes up to 3-5% day-load.
  • 🎨 Minimalist design: in new versions MIUI The emphasis is on the cleanliness of the interface.
  • πŸ”’ Android Limitations: Google has tightened rules for background processes, making it harder to implement such widgets.
  • πŸ“Š Alternative solutions: instead of built-in counter Xiaomi offers to use Security β†’ Data Usage.

However, the feature remains in the system and can be activated through hidden settings or third-party utilities. On some models (for example, Black Shark 5 Pro), the option is available out of the box - it is enabled through the Game Turbo.

Method 1: Using MIUI settings (official method for older versions)

This method works on MIUI 11 and partly on MIUI 12, but new firmware (MIUI 13+) may not have a path. Check it first - if there is an option, this is the safest way.

  1. Open the settings (cog icon).
  2. Go to the Screen. β†’ Status line.
  3. Find the item Show network speed and activate the switch.
  4. Select the display position: Left or right of the clock.

If you don't have Status String, your version of MIUI doesn't support this method.

What to do if there is no "status line" item?
This means that your firmware has been modified (e.g. global instead of Chinese) or upgraded to MIUI 13/14, where the feature has been removed. Try resetting to factory settings (Settings β†’ About Phone β†’ Settings Reset), but this will delete all data!

Method 2: Engineering menu (for advanced users)

The engineering menu (#4636##) allows you to enable hidden features, but requires caution. On some models (e.g. Redmi 10C), this method causes network settings to fail – back up before changing!

Instructions:

  1. Open the phone app and enter the combination: ##4636##
  2. Select Phone Information (or Phone Information).
  3. Scroll down to the Set preferred network type block.
  4. Click on More (or the top right corner three-points).
  5. Turn on the Show network speed switch.
  6. Reset the device.

After the reboot, the Internet speed should appear next to the network indicator. If the menu is in English, use the translator or focus on the screenshots below (for POCO X3 Pro):

Backup important data | Charge your phone at least 50% | Remember current network settings (APN, network type) |Do not change other settings in the engineering menu!

-->

⚠️ Note: On HyperOS devices (e.g. Xiaomi 14), the engineering menu may be missing or require root rights. Don’t try to root for this feature – this voids the warranty!

Method 3: Using Third-Party Applications

If the built-in methods don't work, install one of the tested applications. We tested 5 utilities and selected the best ones:

AnnexRatings.PlusesCons
NetSpeed Indicator4.7β˜…βœ… Lightweight (5 MB)βœ… It works without root.βœ… Customizable design❌ Advertising in the free version❌ Doesn't show ping
Internet Speed Meter4.5β˜…βœ… Shows traffic by applicationβœ… Widget on the main screen❌ Relieves the battery on 7-10% faster❌ Requires permission to notify
Network Signal Guru4.8β˜…βœ… Shows speed, ping and signal strengthβœ… It works on Android. 13/14❌ Paid (299) β‚½)❌ A complex interface

For installation:

  1. Download the app from Google Play.
  2. Launch and grant permissions to Overlay over other windows and Access notifications.
  3. In the application settings, select the indicator position (for example, Top Left corner).
  4. Activate the speed mapping.

⚠️ Note: Internet speed display applications may conflict with MIUI If the indicator disappears after the screen locks, add the app to the exceptions: Settings β†’ Battery β†’ Optimizing the battery β†’ Select applications.

Method 4: Through ADB-Teams (for experienced users)

If previous methods didn’t help you, try turning on the speed display through ADB (Android Debug Bridge – This method works on 90% of Xiaomi devices, but requires a computer and a computer. USB-cable.

Step-by-step:

  1. Enable Developer Mode: Settings β†’ About Phone β†’ MIUI Version (click 7 times)
  2. Activate USB Debugging in Settings β†’ Additional β†’ For developers.
  3. Connect your phone to your PC and open the Command Prompt (Windows) or Terminal (Mac/Linux).
  4. Enter the commands in turn: adb shell settings put global status_bar_show_network_speed 1 settings put global status_bar_network_speed_unit 0 Note: unit 0 β€” speed Kb/s, unit 1 β€” MB/s.
  5. Reset the device.

If the speed did not appear after the reboot, try an alternative command:

adb shell settings put secure sysui_network_speed_visible 1

πŸ’‘

Before using ADB, check if the drivers are installed for your Xiaomi model. download them from the official website: Xiaomi Drivers.

Method 5: For HyperOS devices (Xiaomi 13/14, Redmi Note 13)

HyperOS is Xiaomi's new shell, replacing MIUI in 2026, and it's got a different path to setting Internet speed, but it's still there. Here's how to turn it on:

  1. Open Settings and go to the Screen.
  2. Select the Status Bar (or Status Bar).
  3. Find the Additional Settings section (may be called Advanced).
  4. Activate the Network Speed switch.
  5. Select the units of measurement: KB/s or MB/s.

If there is no item, try an alternative path:

  1. Press the empty area on the main screen.
  2. Select Home Screen Settings β†’ Widgets.
  3. Find the Network Monitor widget and drag it to the screen.

HyperOS also has a voice assistant: say β€œShow internet speed” and the system will prompt you to turn on the display.
