Recording phone conversations on Xiaomi smartphones is a useful feature that can be useful for saving important conversations, evidence, or just for personal notes. However, not all users are aware that modern versions of MIUI (especially 14 and 15) have hidden this option in the depth of settings, and in some regions it is completely disabled for legal reasons. In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to activate call recording β from built-in tools to third-party applications, including bypassing restrictions for models without official support for the feature.
It is important to understand that recording capabilities depend on three factors: the MIUI version, the smartphone model (e.g. Redmi Note 12 or POCO X5) and the firmware region, so on devices for the European market, the feature is often blocked due to privacy laws, whereas on global or Chinese versions it can be available out of the box. We tested all methods on current firmware in 2026 and collected working solutions even for βproblematicβ cases.
Checking for Call Recording Support in Your MIUI Version
Before you try to turn on recording, make sure your firmware supports this feature at all. In recent versions of MIUI 14/15, Xiaomi developers have removed the separate Dictophone app for calls, integrating it into the standard Phone app. However, on some models (especially budget ones like the Redmi A2 or POCO M5), the feature may not be fully functional.
To check for the option:
- Open the phone application (pipe icon).
- Go to the Last (Call History) tab.
- Slip on any incoming/outgoing call to open the details.
- Look for the Record button (microphone) or the item Record the conversation in the menu.
If the button is not there, it doesn't always mean there's no function. On some firmware, it's hidden and activated through the settings editor or the engineering menu codes, and that's what we'll talk about in the next section.
β οΈ Note: On devices with firmware for the European Union (EEA) Call recording can be blocked at the system level, and attempts to circumvent this restriction through firmware modifications are not guaranteed.
Method 1: Enable via hidden MIUI settings (without root)
On many Xiaomi smartphones (including Redmi Note 11, Xiaomi 13, POCO F5), the call recording feature is hidden, but it can be activated via an engineering menu or test commands, which works without superuser rights and does not require the installation of additional applications.
Instructions for MIUI 14/15:
- Open the Phone app.
- Enter the combination: ##6484## (some models run ##646##).
- In the menu that appears, find Call Recording (or Call Recording).
- Activate the switch and save the settings.
If the code doesnβt work, try an alternative method:
- π± Install Activity Launcher from Google Play.
- π In the search, type in CallSettings or CallRecord.
- π οΈ Find a hidden activity with a name that contains Recording and run it.
- βοΈ Enable the record and select the save format (e.g..amr or.mp3).
Check the version of MIUI in Settings β About the phone
Make a backup copy of your contacts
Make sure your phone has enough memory (records take ~1MB/minute)
Turn it off. VPN (It can block access to the engineering menu)-->
After activation, a write button (red circle) will appear in the call settings. All files will be saved in the folder. MIUI/sound_recorder/call_rec If you don't have a folder, you can create it manually.
β οΈ Note: Some models (e.g. Xiaomi) 12T) After using the engineering codes, the firmware region may be lost. To return the original settings, restart the phone or reset the network settings to Settings. β SIM-maps and mobile networks β Resetting settings.
Method 2: Using the standard Dictator application
On smartphones with MIUI 12 and older (e.g. Redmi Note 10, POCO X3 Pro), call recording is implemented via the built-in Dictaphone. However, the feature only works when manually started during a conversation - automatic recording of all calls is not available here.
How to record a conversation through a recorder:
- During the call, tap the button Additional (three dots or arrow down).
- Select Record (Mic icon) and start recording with an alert for the interlocutor (in some regions).
- At the end of the conversation, the file will automatically be saved to the Recorder β Call Records.
Limitations of the method:
- π« No automatic recording β you need to manually turn on each time.
- π’ In some countries (EU, USA) the application notifies the interlocutor about the recording.
- π The quality of the recording depends on the microphone of the phone (on the phone). POCO F4 And newer, better than Redmi. 9A).
If your voice recorder does not have a call recorder, update the app via Google Play or install it. APK-version from apkmirror.com (look for com.miui.soundrecorder).

To quickly find a recorded call, use voice search in the Mi File Manager app. Just say, "Find today's call records."
Method 3: Third-party applications for recording calls
If the built-in methods don't work, we're left with third-party software, and we tested 10 popular apps and selected the three most reliable ones for Xiaomi:
| Annex | Support for MIUI | Auto-recording | Quality. | Limitations |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cube ACR | β MIUI 12-15 | β (customizable contact list) | ποΈ 16 kbit/s (good) | Requires access to notifications |
| Call Recorder by Lovekush | β All versions. | β (on/off schedule) | ποΈ 128 kbit/s (excellent) | Advertising in the free version |
| Truecaller | β οΈ Partially (depending on the region) | β Only manual recording. | ποΈ 8 kbit/s (satisfactory) | Registration is required |
We recommend Cube ACR β it integrates best with MIUI and supports recording even on models with locked function at the firmware level (for example, Xiaomi 13 Lite for the EU).
- Download APK from the official website cubeacr.app (Google Play may have an outdated version).
- At the first launch, provide access to: π Telephone (to identify calls) π€ Microphone (for recording) π Memory (to save files)

β MP3 format (best quality)
The save folder β /CallRecordings/β οΈ Attention: On Android 12+ (including MIUI 14/15) Call recording applications require permission to access notifications, without which they will not be able to identify incoming/outgoing calls. β Annexes β Special access β Access to notifications.
Method 4: Google Drive Recording (for business users)
If you want not only recording but also automatic backup of conversations, you can use Google Drive integration, a method that is suitable for Xiaomi owners at work, where it is important to keep all conversations in the cloud.
Instructions:
- Install the Call Recorder by NoRoot app from Google Play.
- In the app settings, select: Cloud Storage β Google Drive Autoboot β Format β MP3 (for compatibility)
- Log in to your Google account and give access to the Drive.
- Turn on auto record for the right contacts or all calls.

Solving the problems with recording calls on Xiaomi
Even after you set it up properly, the record may not work, and we've collected some common bugs and ways to fix them:
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| No sound on the record. | Locking the microphone with another application | Close all programs that use the microphone (such as WhatsApp or Zoom) |
| Recording ends in 5 minutes. | Limiting energy conservation | Add a recorder app to battery exclusions: Settings β Battery β Battery Optimization β All apps β Select a recorder β No restrictions |
| No files are saved. | No memory rights. | Check permissions for applications in Settings β Applications β Permissions Management β Memory |
| Interlocutor hears an echo | Conflict with noise reduction function | Turn off voice improvement in call settings |
If the recording still doesn't work:
- Check if it is blocked by an antivirus (for example, Avast or built-in Security from Xiaomi).
- Update the firmware to the latest version (sometimes bugs are fixed in patches).
- Reset the settings of the Phone application in Settings β Apps β Phone β Storage β Reset.

On models with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip (such as the Xiaomi 13 Pro), recording may conflict with Qualcomm Aqstic technology, in which case only a rollback to an older version of MIUI or the use of an external recorder will help.
Legal aspects of recording calls
Before you turn on automatic recording, read the laws of your country. Most regions have the following rules:
- π·πΊ Russia: It is allowed to record conversations without notice if you are a participant.
- πͺπΊ European Union: Be sure to notify the interlocutor about the recording (built-in applications Xiaomi for the EU do this automatically).
- πΊπΈ U.S.: Laws vary by state, 12 states (e.g. California) require consent from all participants in a conversation.
- πΊπ¦ Ukraine: Recording allowed without notice, but prohibited distribution without the consent of the interlocutor.
On Xiaomi smartphones with firmware for China or India, the recording feature often works without restrictions, whereas on global or European versions it can be blocked. Check your firmware region in Settings β About Phone β MIUI version (for example, MIUI Global 15.0.4).
If you use a record for work, we recommend:
- π Keep a log of records indicating the date, time and participants.
- π Store files in encrypted form (for example, through Cryptomator).
- ποΈ Remove records older than 6 months (unless they are required for archives).
