Why Tele2 is slowing down on Xiaomi and what to do about it
Have you noticed that Tele2βs Internet is slower on your Xiaomi than on other devices? The problem isnβt always with the operator β itβs often the smartphone settings, outdated software, or even hardware limitations. In this article, weβll look at 7 working ways to speed up mobile Internet, from basic settings to advanced stunts with firmware and hardware.
Tele2 uses 2G/3G/4G/5G networks depending on the region, but even in the 4G+ coverage area, the speed can slow down due to:
- π Incorrect settings APN (Access points that the smartphone receives automatically, but they are not optimized.
- π± Outdated firmware MIUI, where there are no current modem drivers.
- π‘ Bad signal due to weak antenna reception or tower overload.
- π§ Hardware limitations (for example, cheap Redmi models have a weak modem).
It's important to understand that if you have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 with a Snapdragon 678 modem, and your neighbor uses a POCO F4 on the Snapdragon 870, the speed difference will be even with the same settings, but on budget models you can squeeze the maximum - more on that.
1. Checking the current speed and diagnosing the problem
Before you change anything, measure the real speed. Use apps:
- π Speedtest by Ookla β shows ping, upload/return speed and operator.
- πΆ NetMonster β Analyzes signal strength, network type (LTE Band) and adjacent towers.
- π CellMapper builds a coverage map Tele2 your neighborhood.
Pay attention to:
- π Ping above 100ms β a sign of network overload or weak signal.
- π Speed's lower. 10 Mbps 4G β a clear lag from the norm (for Tele2 township 20-50 Mbit/s).
- π‘ Network type: if instead of LTE burns+ or 3G, problem.
β οΈ If speedtest speed is high, but sites load slowly β the problem is not in the speedtest. Tele2, DNS. Check the section about the shift DNS below.
| Indicator. | Norm for 4G (Tele2) | Critically low value |
|---|---|---|
| Loading speed | 20-50 Mbps | <5 Mbps |
| Speed of return | 10β30 Mbps | <2 Mbps |
| ping | 20-60 ms. | >150 ms |
| Type of network | LTE (or 5G) | H+, 3G, E |
2. Optimization of APN settings for Tele2
Incorrect APN (Access Point Name) settings are the most common cause of low speed. Tele2 usually adjusts them automatically, but sometimes they get confused or use universal values not optimized for Xiaomi.
To change the APN:
- Go to Settings. β SIM-maps and mobile networks β Tele2 β Access points (APN).
- Click Add Access Point and enter the settings manually:
Name: Tele2 Internet
APN: internet.tele2.ru
User name: (leave blank)
Password: (leave blank)
Type of authentication: PAP or CHAP
Type APN: default,supl
APN Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
Roaming protocol: IPv4
MCC: 250
MNC: 20 (for Tele2)
Network type: LTEAfter saving, restart your smartphone and check the speed. If the changes are not applied, select the profile you created manually in the APN list.
β οΈ Attention: On some firmware MIUI (especially custom field Type APN In this case, leave it empty or only indicate default.

3. Change DNS to speed up loading of sites
If speedtest speed is high, but pages open slowly, itβs your fault. DNS-server. Tele2 use DNS, which may be inhibited by load or geolocation.
To change the DNS:
- Go to Settings β Connections and Sharing β Private DNS.
- Select the hostname of the private DNS provider and enter one of the addresses: dns.google (Google DNS) 1dot1dot1dot1.cloudflare-dns.com (Cloudflare) dns.quad9.net (Quad9)
Save and restart your smartphone.
To check, use the DNS Changer app, which will show you the current DNS and allow you to quickly switch between options.
π‘
If some websites (e.g. banking) are no longer open after changing the DNS, return the default settings for Tele2 or use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (Google) instead of the private DNS.
4. Update of firmware and modem drivers
An outdated version of MIUI or modem firmware may limit 4G/5G speeds. Xiaomi regularly releases updates with improvements to work with Russian operators, including Tele2.
How to update:
- Go to Settings β About the phone β System update.
- Click Check Updates and install the latest version of MIUI.
- If there are no updates, check the modem firmware version: Open the application ##4636## (Test menu). Select phone information and see the baseband version bar.
If the modem version is outdated (for example, 2-3 builds behind the current one), you can update it manually via Fastboot or custom recovery.
- Download the latest firmware for your model at Xiaomifirmwareupdater.com.
- Unpack the archive and find the file NON-HLOS.bin (modem firmware).
- Fastboot is a fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
β οΈ Warning: Incorrect modem firmware may cause network loss.Make sure the file is NON-HLOS.bin It is suitable for your model and region (EEA Europe, RU for Russia).
What if the signal is lost after the modem update?
5. Signal reception optimization: from antenna to network mode
Weak signal is the main reason for low speed, and even if there is 4G on the status bar, the actual signal strength can be critically low.
- Dial ##4636###.
- Select Phone Information.
- Look at the parameters: dBm: optimally -70...-90 (the closer to -50, the better). ASU: above 15 is a good signal. LTE Band: for Tele2 in Russia, usually Band 3 (1800 MHz) or Band 7 (2600 MHz).
If the signal is weak (dBm < -100), try:
- π Move closer to the window or go outside (walls absorb the signal).
- π Insert the "Only" mode LTE": Go to Settings. β SIM-maps and mobile networks β Tele2 β Network type. Just choose. LTE (switch off 3G/2G, disturbing).
Use a repeater or external antenna
On Xiaomi smartphones with a MediaTek chipset (such as the Redmi Note 11), the signal is often weaker than on the Snapdragon. This is a hardware limitation - the Helio G88/G96 modem is inferior to the Snapdragon 6xx/7xx in antenna sensitivity.
6. Hardware tricks: disabling the second SIM and cooling the modem
If the software methods didn't work, the problem could be the hardware.
- π Turn off the second. SIM-card (if any) Two active SIM divide the modem resources, which reduces the speed of the 20-30%.
- βοΈ Cool your smartphone when you overheat (>45Β°C) Trottlit modem (reduces performance). Use: Game cooler or fan. Performance mode in Settings β Battery β Modes (turn off energy saving).
- π Check the battery (<80% health) may cause voltage drawdowns, which affects the stability of the modem.
