Bluetooth devices on Xiaomi are a convenient way to connect headphones, speakers, fitness bracelets or car systems. However, over time, the list of stored gadgets grows, and some of them stop working correctly or are lost altogether, in which case you need to remove the pairing to make room for new connections or solve connection problems.
In this article, we will discuss all the current ways to remove Bluetooth devices on different Xiaomi devices, from smartphones on MIUI to smart watches Mi Band and speakers Mi Smart Speaker. Particular attention will be paid to the nuances that are often missed in standard instructions – for example, how to completely reset the Bluetooth module settings if the device “forgets”, but continues to automatically connect.
Important: the removal procedure may vary depending on the MIUI version (especially on Xiaomi 12/13/14 with HyperOS) and the type of device. If you use Redmi, POCO or Black Shark, the instructions will also work, as they all work on the basis of the branded shell.
1. Remove Bluetooth devices on Xiaomi smartphones (MIUI/HyperOS)
The most common case is clearing the list of conjugate gadgets directly in the phone’s settings, a method that works on all models, from the Xiaomi Mi 8 (2018) to the new Xiaomi 14 Ultra.
To remove the device:
- Open the Settings app** (cog icon).
- Go to Connections and Sharing → Bluetooth.
- Push the gear. ⚙️ Next to the name of the device you want (for example, Mi True Wireless Earphones 3).
If the device doesn’t appear in the list, but the phone is still trying to connect to it, try resetting the Bluetooth cache:
- 🧹 Click on “Clear Cache” and “Clear Data” (the latter will delete all stored devices!).
⚠️ Note: On smartphones with HyperOS (such as Xiaomi 14 Pro), the path to Bluetooth settings may be different: → Connections → Bluetooth and devices. The newer versions also include Auto Connection, which must be manually disabled for each device, otherwise the phone will try to restore the connection even after deleting it.
2. Features of removal for headphones and TWS-Xiaomi devices
Mi AirDots, Redmi Buds or Xiaomi FlipBuds often behave outside the box: even after being removed from the pairing list, they can automatically connect when turned on. This is due to the Fast Pair function and data caching in the headphone firmware.
To remove completely TWS-headphones:
- Turn off the headphones, then press the power button for 15-20 seconds until the indicator starts flashing red and white (reset mode).
If the headphones are automatically connected anyway, check:
- 🔄 Availability of firmware updates for headphones in the application “Mi Earphones”** (available on Google Play).
Fully charge headphones and case | Remove device from Bluetooth settings of phone |Click reset button until flash of indicator |Reboot smartphone after reset-->
| Model headphones | Reset button | Indication of discharge | Retention time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Redmi AirDots (1–3) | The button on the case | Red. → white-coloured | 15 seconds |
| Xiaomi Air 2/2S/2 Pro | Headphone button | Red + white (alternatively) | 10 seconds. |
| Xiaomi Buds 3/4 Pro | Touch panel (touch + hold) | White → red → white | 8 seconds |
| Mi True Wireless Earphones Basic 2 | The button on the case | Blinks red 3 times | 20 seconds |
3. Remove devices on smart watches and fitness bracelets Xiaomi
On the Mi Band, Mi Watch or Redmi Watch, the list of associated devices is managed through the Mi Fitness app (formerly Zepp Life), and deleting from the app is not always synchronized with the Bluetooth settings on the phone, which can cause conflicts.
Step-by-step:
- Open the “Mi Fitness” app on your phone.
For full reset:
- 🔄 Reboot your smartwatch/bracelet (on the Mi Band – hold the touch button for 10 seconds).
- 📱 Remove the device from the Bluetooth list on your phone (see Section 1).
- 🗑️ Clear the cache of the “Mi Fitness” app** in your phone settings.
What if the Mi Band doesn’t disconnect from the old phone?
⚠️ Warning: Mi Watch and Redmi Watch 3 may need to reboot the clock after removing the device from the app (hold the side button for 15 seconds.
4. reset Bluetooth on smart speakers and IoT devices Xiaomi
Smart speakers Mi Smart Speaker, Yeelight lamps or robot vacuum cleaners Mi Robot Vacuum also connect via Bluetooth (for example, for initial settings), removing them from the list of conjugated devices on the phone is not enough – you need to reset the settings on the gadget itself.
For Mi Smart Speaker:
- Turn off the power column for 30 seconds.
- Turn it back on and immediately press the Bluetooth (or Mode) button for 5 seconds until you hear the beep.
For Yeelight and other IoT devices:
- 💡 Turn the device off for 1 minute.
- 🔄 Enable and reset via the “Mi Home” app** (Device settings) → Three points. → Delete).
- 📱 Remove the device from the Bluetooth list on your phone.
If Xiaomi’s smart device is not detected in the Mi Home app after a reset, try changing your account region to Mainland – some models require this to work properly.
5. Post-Deletion Problems and Solutions
Sometimes, after removing the device, there are problems: the phone does not see the gadget, the connection breaks or there is an error “I failed to connect”**.
Problem 1: The device is removed, but the phone automatically connects to it.
- 🔄 Reboot both devices.
- 📵 Turn on Flight Mode** for 30 seconds, then turn off.
- 🔧 Turn off the Quick Connection feature** in Bluetooth settings (if available).
Problem 2: Xiaomi headphones are not detected after resetting.
- 📱 Make sure your phone has Bluetooth enabled and geolocation enabled (some models require it for Fast Pair).
Problem 3: “Pair failed” error** when reconnecting.
- 🔄 Remove the device again and try connecting from another phone (to check if the gadget is a problem).
- 📲 Update the firmware of headphones / speakers through the official application.
- 🛠️ Reset the network settings on your phone (Settings) → System system → Reset → Resetting the network).
💡
If a Xiaomi device refuses to connect after several attempts, try temporarily turning off Wi-Fi on your phone – sometimes the conflict between Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (both operate at 2.4 GHz) interferes with pairing.
6. Complete reset of the Bluetooth module on Xiaomi (advanced method)
If standard methods don't work, and devices continue to connect ghostly, you can reset the Bluetooth module completely, which will delete all stored data, including cache and power saving settings.
Instructions for smartphones:
- Activate Developer Mode**: Settings → About Phone → MIUI version (click 7 times)
For smartwatches and bracelets:
- 🔧 On the gadget itself, perform a reset to factory settings (Settings) → System system → Reset).
⚠️ Note: After a full reset of the Bluetooth module, some devices (such as Mi Band or wireless headphones) may require re-authorization in applications!
💡
A full reset of the Bluetooth module is a last resort, and only use it if other methods fail, as it will result in the loss of all stored connections, including smart homes and car systems.
7. How to prevent automatic connection of remote devices
A common problem after deletion is that Xiaomi’s phone or headphones continue to try to restore the connection. MAC-Addresses, to avoid that:
On the phone:
- 📵 Turn off Automatic Connection** in the settings of each Bluetooth device.
- 🔧 B Settings → Battery → Power Saving Mode Add Bluetooth to the “No Limits” List»**.
For headphones and speakers:
- 📱 On your phone, turn off geolocation for apps that can automatically initiate a connection (such as “Mi Fitness” or “Mi Home»).
If the problem persists, check if the Trusted Devices feature is enabled in the phone’s security settings (Settings → Security → Trusted Devices) and remove any unnecessary gadgets.
