Youโre trying to show vacation photos on the big screen, run an iPhone movie on a Xiaomi TV, or just duplicate a screen for a presentation โ but youโre faced with a problem: Are devices from different ecosystems (Apple and MIUI) not willing to be friends?
The main difficulty is that Xiaomi does not support AirPlay by default, and the Miracast standard that is available in TVs is incompatible with iOS without additional utilities. However, there are at least 5 working solutions - from connecting through an adapter to using third-party applications. We tested each method on Xiaomi Mi TV 4A, Redmi Smart TV X and Mi TV Q2 models with iPhone 12/14/15 Pro.
Important: If your TV is released before 2019, some ways may not work due to an outdated version of MIUI TV, in which case, pay attention to the sections about hardware adapters or firmware updates.
1. Wireless streaming via AirPlay (for new Xiaomi models)
Since 2021, Xiaomi has been adding AirPlay 2 support to its TVs, but only in premium series (Mi TV Q1/Q2, Mi TV 6 OLED) and some Redmi Smart TV models on MIUI TV 3.0+.
- On the Xiaomi remote, click Settings โ Device โ About TV.
- Look for the line โAirPlay Supportโ or โApple AirPlayโ.
- If it is not, move on to the next method.
If you have support, the connection will take less than a minute:
- ๐ฑ On the iPhone, swipe down to open the Control Point.
- ๐ Click on Screen Duplication (or Screen Mirroringยป).
- ๐บ In the list, select the name of your Xiaomi TV.
- ๐ When the code appears on TV, enter it on the iPhone.
โ ๏ธ Note: If the broadcast is interrupted or slowed, check that both devices are connected to the same 5GHz Wi-Fi network. 2.4GHz networks do not provide sufficient speed for video transmission to be transmitted to the Internet. 4K.
๐ก
If AirPlay doesnโt find the TV, reboot the router and turn off the VPN on your iPhone โ sometimes this blocks local device detection.
2.Using Miracast through third-party apps (for iOS)
Miracast is a wireless broadcast standard supported by all Xiaomi TVs, but iOS can't use it out of the box. The solution is special applications that emulate the Miracast server on the iPhone.
| Annex | Cost | 4K support | Delay (MS) |
|---|---|---|---|
| ApowerMirror | Free (with watermarks) | โ (max. 1080p) | 150โ200 |
| LetsView | Free of charge. | โ (max. 1080p) | 100โ150 |
| Screen Mirroring (from AirBeamTV) | Paid (~500โฝ) | โ (4K stable-wi-fi) | 50โ80 |
Instructions for ApowerMirror (the most versatile option):
- Install the app on your iPhone and launch it.
- On Xiaomi TV, open Settings โ Connection and Sharing โ Wireless display (Miracast).
- In the iPhone app, select โStart broadcastโ and wait for the TV to be detected.
- Confirm the connection on the TV.
Important: applications like ApowerMirror transmit a latency image, so they are not suitable for gaming or watching sports broadcasts in real time. HDMI-adapter (see next section).

3. Wired connection via Lightning โ HDMI adapter
If you need minimal latency (for example, for playing games or watching movies in high definition), the best way is to wired.
- ๐ Lightning adapter โ HDMI (Apple official or certified analogue).
- ๐บ Cable HDMI 2.0 (support 4K@60Hz).
- ๐ Power supply for adapter (some models require charging connection).
Step-by-step:
- Connect the adapter to the iPhone.
- Connect the adapter and the Xiaomi TV with an HDMI cable (use the HDMI 2.0/ARC port for better quality).
- On the Xiaomi remote, select the appropriate signal source (HDMI 1/2/3).
- The iPhone will be notified โTrust this device?โ
Advantages of the method:
- โก Zero Latency (ideal for gaming).
- ๐ฅ Support 4K HDR Dolby Vision (if the TV supports the TV).
- ๐ Does not drain the battery of the iPhone (adapter is powered by the network).
โ ๏ธ Attention: Cheap uncertified adapters may not transmit audio or produce image artifacts. Check compatibility with iOS 16/17 pre-purchase.

4. Broadcasting via DLNA/UPnP (for media files)
If you only need to transfer photos, videos or music (not the entire screen), you can use the DLNA protocol, which supports all Xiaomi TVs.
- Install a media server application on your iPhone, such as VLC for Mobile (free). Infuse (paid, but with better format support).

Limitations of the method:
- ๐ซ Does not transmit the entire screen (only individual files).
- ๐ต Not all video formats are supported (for example, the video formats are not supported, MV-HEVC iPhone may not be playing back).
- ๐ถ Requires stable Wi-Fi (with a weak signal, the video will "slow downยป).

5. Cloud services (YouTube, Google Photos, Netflix)
If you don't want to live stream the screen, the easiest way is to upload the content to the cloud and open it on your TV.
- ๐น YouTube: Upload the video as โnon-publicโ and open it on TV via the YouTube app.
- ๐ผ๏ธ Google Photos: automatically syncs photos from iPhone (you need to install the application).
- ๐ฌ Netflix/Disney+: If the content is licensed, log in to the TV with the same account.
- ๐ Xiaomi Cloud: If you have a Mi Account, you can upload files to the cloud and open them via Cloud Storage on TV.
The advantage of the method is that it does not require additional devices or settings, and disadvantage is that it is not suitable for broadcasting screens (for example, for displaying presentations or games).
6.Alternative solutions for older Xiaomi TVs
If your TV is released before 2019 (e.g. Mi TV 3S or Mi TV 4 on MIUI TV 1.0/2.0), the standard ways may not work.
- ๐ฆ Buy Android. TV-A set-top box (e.g. Xiaomi Mi Box S or Nvidia Shield) and connect it to your TV via a TV HDMI. The console supports AirPlay and Miracast.
- ๐ Update your TV firmware to the latest version (instruction below).
- ๐ฅ๏ธ Use your PC/laptop as a middleman: stream your iPhone screen to your computer via QuickTime Player and then from your computer to TV. HDMI.
How to update the firmware on the old Xiaomi TV:
- Go to Settings โ About TV โ System Update.
- If there are no updates, download the latest firmware for your model from the Xiaomi Support website.
- Upload the file to a FAT32 flash drive (upgrade folder, file name โ update.zip).
- Connect the flash drive to the TV and select Local Update.
โ ๏ธ Note: On the Xiaomi TVs of 2017-2018 release after the update can fly rotary access (if it was). MIUI TV 3.0 โ Check the reviews on the forums before updating.

For Xiaomi TVs older than 2019, the best solution is Android TV-It adds support for AirPlay, Google Cast and modern streaming services.
