Why link Xiaomi to a tablet?
Synchronizing a Xiaomi smartphone with a tablet opens up new possibilities for multitasking and convenience: You can receive notifications from your phone on a large screen, transfer files without cables, share the Internet or even manage calls from a tablet, especially for owners of Mi Pad devices or other Android tablets who want to integrate them into the Xiaomi HyperOS ecosystem.
But not everyone knows that there are several options for connecting, from standard Bluetooth to branded Mi Share (formerly Mi Drop), each method has its advantages: for example, Wi-Fi Direct provides high speed transfers, and Mi Account synchronizes data between devices automatically. In this article, we will discuss all the current methods, including hidden settings and solving typical problems.
Important: If your tablet is not from Xiaomi (like the Samsung Galaxy Tab or Huawei MatePad), some of the features may be limited, but basic methods like Bluetooth or cloud storage work on any Android device.
Method 1: Sync with Mi Account (Xiaomi Cloud)
The most reliable way to link devices is to use a Mi Account, which automatically syncs contacts, notes, photos, and even call history, and the main condition is that both devices must be linked to the same account.
How it works:
- π± On Xiaomi phone go to Settings β Xiaomi account and log in (or create a new account).
- π₯οΈ On the tablet, perform the same actions using the same login and password.
- βοΈ Enable data synchronization in the Settings section β Xiaomi account β Synchronization: Choose which data to duplicate (contacts, calendar, notes).
Advantages of the method:
- π Automatic data update without manual transfer.
- π Access files from any device via the web version of Mi Cloud.
- π Encryption of transmitted data.
β οΈ Note: If the tablet has an unofficial firmware (e.g. LineageOS), Mi Account services may not work properly. Before setting up, check the software version in Settings β The phone.

Method 2: Transfer files via Mi Share (formerly Mi Drop)
Mi Share is Xiaomiβs proprietary technology for wireless file transfer between devices, which is faster than Bluetooth and does not require internet using Wi-Fi Direct.
Step-by-step:
- On the phone, open the Files app (or Mi Share in the utility menu).
- Select files, click Send β Mi Share.
- On the tablet, open Mi Share (may be called Quick Transfer) and select Receive mode.
- Confirm the connection on both devices.
The transmission speed depends on the model:
- π² Xiaomi 13/14 series and Mi Pad 6: before 20 MB/s.
- π± Older models (Redmi Note 9, Mi Pad 4): up to 10 MB / s.
β οΈ Note: If Mi Share does not find the tablet, check if Wi-Fi Direct is enabled in the settings (Settings) β Connections β Wi-Fi β On some firmware, this option is hidden.

Method 3: Connecting via Bluetooth
Bluetooth is a universal method that works even with tablets of other brands, suitable for transferring small files (up to 50 MB) or synchronizing notifications.
How to connect devices:
- π± On the phone: Settings β Bluetooth β turn on the appearance.
- π₯οΈ On the tablet: find the phone in the list of available devices and connect (may be required) PIN-code, usually 0000 or 1234).
- π To transfer files, use the option to Send files to the Bluetooth menu.
Limitations of the method:
- π’ Low speed (maximum) 2-3 MB/s).
- π High battery consumption during long-term transmission.
- π΅ Folders are not supported β only individual files.
| Parameter | Mi Share | Bluetooth | Wi-Fi Direct |
|---|---|---|---|
| Transmission speed | up to 20 MB/s | up to 3 MB/s | up to 15 MB/s |
| Distance | 10m | 10m | 5m |
| Support for folders | Yes. | No. | Yes. |
| Energy consumption | Average. | High. | Low. |

If Bluetooth is permanently disabled, turn off the power saving mode for this connection in the battery settings (Settings β Battery β Optimization β Bluetooth).
Method 4: Using Wi-Fi Direct
Wi-Fi Direct is an alternative to Mi Share for devices without Xiaomiβs proprietary utilities, which creates a direct network between the phone and tablet, ensuring high speed.
Instructions for setting:
- π± On the phone: Settings β Wi-Fi β Additionally. β Wi-Fi Direct.
- π₯οΈ On the tablet: turn on Wi-Fi Direct in a similar menu.
- π Select the device to connect and confirm the connection.
- π€ Use any file manager (e.g. Total Commander or Total Commander) to transfer files. FX File Explorer).
Wi-Fi Direct supports file transfers up to 4GB without loss of quality β perfect for video resolution 4K. However, on some models (Redmi) 9A, Mi Pad 5 Lite may require manual adjustment IP-address.
β οΈ Warning: After transferring files, turn off Wi-Fi Direct to avoid conflicts with the main Wi-Fi network. Some routers block devices that are simultaneously connected to two networks.
Method 5: Synchronize notifications and calls
If you want to receive phone-to-tablet notifications (such as for Telegram, WhatsApp, or calls), use the Xiaomi Cloud Messaging app or third-party utilities like Pushbullet.
Setting up through Mi Account:
- π± On the phone: Settings β Notifications β Transmission of notifications β Select a tablet from the list of trusted devices.
- π₯οΈ On the tablet: Allow notifications to be displayed in Settings β Annexes β Xiaomi Cloud Messaging β Notifications.
For calls:
- π Install the Mi Call Assistant app (not available on all models).
- π Enable Calls on other devices in your phone settings.
Third-party apps (like Pushbullet) offer more features, but require registration and may have restrictions on the free version.

Synchronizing notifications only works when you have an active Internet connection on both devices. Use the same Wi-Fi network to save traffic.
Typical problem solving
If devices canβt see each other or the connection is interrupted, check the following points:
- π Reboot: Sometimes it helps just to restart Bluetooth/Wi-Fi both-device.
- πΆ Interference: Other wireless devices (such as microwaves or routers at 2.4 GHz) can cause interference.Switch to 5 GHz if supported.
- π Power Saving: Turn off battery optimization for Mi Share or Bluetooth apps.
- π± Firmware: Update to the latest version (Settings) β The phone. β Updating the system).
If Mi Share gives an error, "I couldn't connect":
- Check if Wi-Fi Direct is enabled manually.
- Remove the device from the list of connected and try again.
- Reset your network settings (Settings β System β Reset β Reset Wi-Fi, mobile network and Bluetooth).
For Bluetooth issues:
- Remove all saved devices and re-pair.
- Check if the βAudio Onlyβ mode is enabled in the Bluetooth profile settings.
