Xiaomi devices are famous for their ecosystem, where smartphones, smartwatches, fitness bracelets, speakers and even appliances can communicate in real time. However, not all users know how to properly configure this synchronization to avoid data loss or conflicts between gadgets. In this article, we will analyze all the ways of synchronization, from basic binding to Mi Account to fine-tuning for specific models.
The main problem faced by Xiaomi owners is the fragmentation of data, such as steps with the Mi Band 7 do not appear in the Mi Fitness app on the phone, or photos with the Redmi Note 12 do not load automatically into the cloud, the reasons can be due to both incorrect account settings and firmware version conflicts, we analyzed official guides, user feedback and technical forums to collect relevant solutions for 2026.
We will focus on three key scenarios: (1) Smartphone and wearable device synchronization (Mi Band, Watch); (2) Phone-Mi Home data exchange; and (3) Backup and Recovery via Mi Cloud.
For each case, we give step-by-step instructions taking into account the latest updates. MIUI.
1.Preparation: Create and configure Mi Account
Without a Xiaomi account, device synchronization is impossible. Even if you use your gadgets locally (for example, connect the Mi Band directly to your phone over Bluetooth), you will need a Mi Account to back up and share data between multiple devices.
To create an account:
- 📱 Open on your smartphone Settings → Xiaomi Account (or Settings) → Memory and backup copies → Backup in new versions MIUI).
- 🔄 Click on “Create an account” and follow the instructions. Specify a valid email (preferably Gmail, it has less problems with recovery).
- 🔐 Enable two-factor authentication in your account settings – this will protect your data when synchronized.
- 🌍 Select the region “Russia” (or your country), as it depends on the available services (for example, Mi Home in China and the global version differ).
If you already have an account, but your devices are not synced:
- Check that all devices use the same Mi Account (sometimes users create multiple accounts by mistake).
- Update your Mi Fitness, Mi Home, and Mi Cloud apps to the latest versions on Google Play or the App Store.
- In the phone settings go to Settings → Annexes → App management, find Xiaomi apps and clear the cache.
⚠️ Note: If you used Chinese firmware on your smartphone, and then searched for a global one MIUI, The old Mi Account may not work, in which case, create a new account and manually transfer the data through export/import.
2.Sync smartphone with Mi Band or Mi Watch
Wearable devices Xiaomi (Mi Band) 6/7/8, Watch S1/S2, Watch 2 Pros are synced to a smartphone via the Mi Fitness app (formerly Zepp Life), but many users find that steps, sleep or pulse data are not updated.
Step 1. Check the connection
- 🔗 Make sure your phone has Bluetooth and geolocation enabled (without it, some features, such as sleep tracking, don’t work properly).
- 📲 In the Mi Fitness app, go to Profile → My devices and check the status of the connection. If there's an exclamation mark next to the bracelet name, click on it and re-sync it.
- 🔄 If the bracelet is not identified, remove it from the list of devices and add again (to do this, click “Add device” and follow the instructions).
Step 2: Set up automatic synchronization
By default, the data from the wristband should be synced automatically every 30 minutes.
- Open Mi Fitness → Profile → Settings → Data Synchronization.
- Enable the Autosynchronization option and set the interval (30 minutes is recommended).
- Check that the phone settings for the Mi Fitness app allow auto-start and work in the background (Settings) → Annexes → Permits → Auto-start).
Step 3: Solving Data Problems
If the steps or pulse are not displayed in the appendix:
- 📊 Check that activity tracking is enabled on the bracelet (Bracelet settings) → Monitoring of the heart/steps).
- 🔋 Make sure the bracelet is charged (at a charge level below 10%, synchronization may be interrupted).
- 📱 Reboot your smartphone and bracelet (on the Mi Band, hold the 10 second button for this).

| SMS | 5,000 messages | Messages → Settings → Backup |
💡
If you travel frequently, turn off automatic uploading of photos to Mi Cloud over the mobile network. → Xiaomi account → Mi Cloud → Synchronization settings and select “Only over Wi-Fi».
4.Sync Smart Home through Mi Home
Xiaomi smart devices (Yeelight, Aqara, Mi Robot Vacuum) are managed through the Mi Home app. To work smoothly, they need not only to connect to a single Wi-Fi network, but also to be linked to one Mi Account.
How to add the device to Mi Home:
- Open the Mi Home app and click on it «+» top-right.
- Select the category of the device (for example, “Lighting” for Yeelight lamps).
- Follow the instructions on the screen. Most devices will require you to press and hold the button on the body until the indicator flashes.
- Once connected, assign a room to the device (such as a “Bedroom”) – this will simplify management.
Synchronization problems and their solutions:
- 🏠 Device not located: Make sure the phone and smart gadget are connected to the same Wi-Fi (2.4GHz) network. Some devices (such as Mi Robot Vacuum) don't work with 5GHz networks.

5. Synchronization between several Xiaomi smartphones
If you have multiple Xiaomi phones (such as a work phone and a personal phone), they can be synchronized so that data is duplicated on both devices, which is convenient for backing up or sharing contacts, photos and notes.
Method 1: Through the Mi Cloud
The easiest way to do this is to use the cloud:
- On both phones, log in to the same Mi Account.
- Enable synchronization of the required data (Settings) → Mi Cloud).
- Wait until the sync is complete (it can take up to several hours if there are many photos).
Method 2: Local synchronization over Wi-Fi Direct
If you don’t want to use the cloud, you can transfer data directly to:
- 📲 On the first phone, open the Gallery or Contacts, select files and click “Send».
- 🔗 Select the option “Wi-Fi Direct” or “Transfer to Xiaomi device».
- 📱 On the second phone, confirm the data reception.
Method 3: Through the app "Cloner" (Mi Mover)
Mi Mover app (built-in in the MIUI) It allows you to transfer data between Xiaomi phones without the cloud:
- On both phones, install Mi Mover (if not, download from Google Play).
- On the old phone, select “I give” and on the new one, “I receive.”
- Scan it. QR-code and select data for transfer (contacts, SMS, photos, applications).
Note that not all data can be synchronized between phones.
- ✅ Contacts, SMS, Photos, videos - transferred completely.
- ⚠️ Applications – only download links are transferred (themselves) APK-files are not copied).
- ❌ System settings (wallpaper, sounds, brightness) - not synchronized.
💡
To sync between phones, make sure to use the same Mi Account. If the accounts are different, the data will not be duplicated automatically, even if the phones are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
6. Data backup and recovery
Synchronization is closely related to backup. If you lose your phone or reset it to factory settings, recovering data from Mi Cloud will save you setup hours.
How to create a backup copy:
- Go to Settings → About Phone → Backup and Reset → Local Backup.
- Select data for saving (applications, settings, SMS, call-book).
- Click on “Create a backup” and wait until it is completed (the file will be saved in the phone’s internal memory).
How to recover data:
- 📱 When you first turn on your phone after reset, select “Restore from backup».
- 🔄 If the phone is already configured, go to Settings → The phone. → Backup and reset → Restore from backup copy.
- 🖥️ To recover from a PC, connect the phone to your computer, copy the backup file (located in the folder) MIUI/backup/AllBackup) Use the official Mi utility. PC Suite.
Frequent errors in recovery:
- 🔐 Wrong version MIUI: A backup copy created by the MIUI 14, may not recover on MIUI 12.Refresh the firmware before you restore it.
- 📁 Damaged file: If the backup doesn’t open, try re-creating it or use Mi Cloud.
- 🔄 Lack of space: Recovery requires at least 20% free space on your phone.
| Backup method | Advantages | Deficiencies |
|---|---|---|
| Mi Cloud | Automatic synchronization, access from any device | 5GB restriction, internet dependency |
| Local copy. | No Internet, full control of files | Takes up space on the phone, you need to update manually |
| Mi Mover | Fast transfer between phones, supports most data | Physical access to both devices is required. |
7.Chronicle problems and their solutions
Even if you set up the synchronization correctly, you can interrupt it, and let's look at the common errors and how to fix them.
Problem 1: The device is not connected to the Mi Account
If you add a gadget to Mi Fitness or Mi Home, you get an error “I couldn’t connect to the server”:
- 🌍 Check that the correct region is selected in the phone settings (e.g., “Russia” and not “China»).
- 🔗 Make sure your phone is on the internet (synchronization requires access to Xiaomi servers).
- ⏳ Try changing the server manually: in Mi Home go to Profile → Settings → Region and select Mainland China (sometimes this helps with errors with global servers).
Problem 2: Mi Fitness data is not updated
If your steps or pulse are not synchronized:
- 🔄 Restart the Mi Fitness app and update it to the latest version.
- 📱 In the phone settings for Mi Fitness, enable geolocation, storage and auto-run permissions.
- 🔋 Check the bracelet charge – at a level below 15%, synchronization may be blocked.
Problem 3: Mi Cloud doesn't upload photos
If the photos are in the status of "Pending upload":
- 📶 Make sure your phone is connected to Wi-Fi (mobile download may be disabled).
- 📂 Check that the Gallery has autoloaded (Settings) → Cloud. → Autoboot).
- 🔄 Restart your phone and re-start sync in Settings → Mi Cloud.
Problem 4: Smart devices are disconnected from Mi Home
If the lamps or sockets periodically disappear from the application:
- 🏠 Check the stability of the Wi-Fi network. Some Xiaomi devices don't work well with dual-band routers (try splitting 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks).
- 🔌 Restart router and smart device (turn off power for 30 seconds).
- 📱 In Mi Home, update the device firmware (Device settings) → Update of the PO).
