Outputting your smartphone image on a big screen on Xiaomi TV opens up new possibilities: watching high-resolution movies, showing photos to friends, playing on a big screen or even working with documents. However, not all users know that modern Xiaomi TVs (Mi TV A2, P1, Q2 and others) support several ways of wireless and wired projection โ from standard Miracast to branded solutions through Mi Home.
In this article, we will look at all the current ways to transfer screens from your phone (including the Redmi, POCO and Mi models on Android 12/13/14) to Xiaomi TVs of different generations, paying special attention to settings that are often missed in standard instructions โ for example, how to turn on the developer mode on TV for stable operation of Miracast or what adapters are needed for HDMI-C on new smartphones without a 3.5 mm port.
If you've had problems like "no sound when projected" or "screen flashes," there's a section at the end of this article that addresses common errors, and we'll also compare the pros and cons of each method in the table so you can choose the best option for your technique.
1. Wireless projection through Miracast (native method)
Miracast is the wireless screen standard supported by most modern devices, and works out of the box on Xiaomi TVs, but itโs important to set both devices correctly for stable communication.
First of all, make sure your TV and smartphone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network (or use Wi-Fi Direct if you don't have a router). On your Xiaomi TV, turn on Miracast mode:
- Open Settings โ Connections and Sharing โ Wireless projection.
- Select Miracast (on some models, the item may be called Wireless Display).
- Activate the option to Allow Connection.
On a smartphone (such as Xiaomi 13T or Redmi Note 12):
- Go to Settings โ Connections and Sharing โ Screen Transfer.
- Slip the name of your TV in the list of available devices.
- Confirm the connection on both devices.
If the TV is not on the list, check:
- ๐ Restart the router โ sometimes double interferes NAT or filtering multicast packets.
- ๐ถ Distance between devices โ Miracast is sensitive to interference, optimally up to 5 meters.
- ๐ง Developer mode on TV - on some firmware you need to enable Wi-Fi debugging in Settings โ On TV. โ Software version (click 7 times on the build number).

2.Using Wi-Fi Direct to Duplication Screen
Wi-Fi Direct is an alternative to Miracast, which creates a direct connection between your phone and your TV without a router, and it's useful if you don't have a home network or it's not stable.
- โก Maximum screen resolution โ 1080p (on 4K possible lag).
- ๐ฎ Delayed input (~100-150 ms), which is critical for gaming.
- ๐ Increased battery consumption of the smartphone.
To connect via Wi-Fi Direct:
- On TV: Settings โ Network and Internet โ Wi-Fi Direct โ turn on visibility.
- On the phone: Settings โ Wi-Fi โ Wi-Fi Direct (or File Transfer on some MIUI firmware).
- Select the TV from the list and confirm the connection.
- Return to the screen transfer on your phone and select the connected TV.
If the connection breaks, try:
- ๐ฑ Disable power saving for Wireless Display in phone battery settings.
- ๐ Change Wi-Fi channel to TV (manually select 6 or 11 โ they are less loaded).
- ๐ ๏ธ Reset network settings on the TV: Settings โ System system โ Reset โ Resetting the network.
๐ก
If there is no sound after connecting via Wi-Fi Direct, check the audio output settings on your phone: Settings โ Sound โ Sound output โ TV (Wi-Fi Direct).
3. Connection through HDMI-cable
Wired HDMI provides minimal latency and maximum image quality (up to 4K@60Hz), but requires additional accessories.
You'll need:
- ๐ฑ Smartphone with support HDMI Alt Mode (most of Xiaomiโs flagships since Mi 10).
- ๐ adapter USB-C โ HDMI (For example, original from Xiaomi or certified by Anker).
- ๐ฅ๏ธ HDMI-cable (version 2.0 or higher) 4K).
Instructions:
- Connect the adapter to the USB-C port of the smartphone.
- Connect the adapter to the TV with an HDMI cable.
- On the TV, select the appropriate HDMI-entrance (usually) HDMI 1/ARC).
- The phone may need to confirm the transfer mode (select HDMI or DisplayPort).
If the image does not appear:
- ๐ Check the quality of the cable โ cheap adapters often donโt support the cable. 4K.
- ๐ง On the phone, turn on the developer mode and activate debugging by USB (Sometimes helps with recognition problems).
- ๐บ Turn it off on the TV. HDMI-CEC (In Settings โ HDMI), flashing.
| Connection method | Max, permission. | Delay. | Internet is required | Energy consumption |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Miracast | 4K@30Hz | 50-80 ms. | Yes (or Wi-Fi Direct) | Average. |
| Wi-Fi Direct | 1080p@60Hz | 100-150 ms. | No. | High. |
| HDMI (wire) | 4K@60Hz | 10-20 ms. | No. | Low. |
| Mi Home (DLNA) | 1080p@30Hz | 200-300 ms. | Yes. | Low. |

For games or watching high-resolution (4K HDR) video, use wired HDMI connectivity. Wireless methods are suitable for presentations or streaming social networks.
4. projection through the Mi Home app
The Mi Home app not only allows you to control Xiaomi smart devices, but also broadcast the screen to DLNA-enabled TVs. This method is easier to set up than Miracast, but has limitations in quality and latency.
To begin the broadcast:
- Install Mi Home on your phone.
- Add the TV to the app (if itโs not already connected to your Mi Account).
- Open the TV card in Mi Home โ Screen โ Screen broadcast.
- Confirm access on the TV.
Features of the method:
- ๐ฅ Only media files (video, photo) are supported โ full screen duplication is not available.
- ๐ Sound is transmitted only when played through a standard Xiaomi player.
- ๐ Requires you to connect your TV and phone to one Mi Account.
How to speed up the broadcast through Mi Home?
If the broadcast is interrupted, check:
- ๐ถ Wi-Fi speed - for the 1080p You need at least 15 Mbps.
- ๐ Mi Home Version โ Update the app to the latest version.
- ๐ ๏ธ Region of TV - in TV settings (Settings) โ Select China (sometimes this solves the problem with the region) DLNA).
Side of screen broadcasting application
If the standard methods don't work, you can use third-party apps, and we tested three of the most reliable options for Xiaomi TVs:
- ApowerMirror (๐ Recommended for games) ๐ฎ Game Mode Support with Delay ~50 miss. ๐ฑ Works through USB/Wi-Fi (You need a cable for the first setup). ๐ฐ Free version with watermark.
- TeamViewer QuickSupport (๐ง For technical support) ๐ฅ๏ธ Remote Telephone Control with TV. ๐ Encrypted connection. โ ๏ธ Requires confirmation on your phone every 5 minutes.
Google Home
- ๐ฌ Chromecast support if TV supports).
- ๐ Transmitting sound without delay.
- ๐ฑ Media only (no full screen duplication).
โ ๏ธ Note: On Xiaomi TVs with firmware older 2021 Manual activation may be required. ADB-Debugging for stable operation of Miracast. Instructions: adb connect [IP_television]:5555 adb shell settings put global hidden_api_policy 1 (IP TV can be found in the settings โ On TV. โ State of the network).
