Are you tired of small photos of contacts when incoming calls on Xiaomi? Want a subscriber image to occupy the entire screen, like on commercials? This problem is familiar to many owners of Redmi, Poco and Mi smartphones - standard MIUI settings often crop photos or show them in a small mug. Fortunately, there are several working ways to fix this, and you do not need root rights or complex manipulation.
In this article, weβll look at all the current ways to zoom in on a callerβs photo, from standard MIUI settings to hidden features and third-party apps. Youβll learn how to get the system to show full-screen images when incoming calls, which models support this feature out of the box, and what to do if your Xiaomi stubbornly ignores the changes. All the instructions have been tested on the latest versions of MIUI 14 and HyperOS, but most of the methods work on older firmware as well.
Why is the photo of the contact not displayed on the full screen?
The problem with small photos when calling on Xiaomi is related to the features of the MIUI shell. By default, the system uses three display options:
- π Standard view β a small round photo in the center of the screen (the most common version)
- πΌοΈ Extended view - the photo takes ~60% of the screen, but cut off at the edges
- π« No photo β only the contact name is displayed on a colored background
The reasons why Xiaomi doesnβt show photos on the full screen:
- MIUI limitations β in some firmware versions, full-screen mode is disabled at the system level.
- Incorrect contact settings β the photo may be too small or in the wrong format.
- Design theme β some MIUI themes force the size of the image to change.
- Battery optimization is rare, but it happens that the system "saves" resources by reducing the size of previews.
β οΈ Note: On Xiaomi models with AMOLED-screens (e.g. Mi 11, Redmi) K50) Full-screen photos can cause the matrix to burn out faster with frequent calls. If you notice shadows from the interface, return to standard mode.
Method 1: Configure using standard MIUI parameters
Before you resort to third-party solutions, check the standard settings. The latest versions of MIUI 13/14 and HyperOS have a hidden setting for zooming a caller's photo.
Instructions:
- Open the phone application (pipe icon).
- Slip on three dots in the upper right corner β select Settings.
- Go to Incoming Calls (or Display Calls on some models).
- Find the call screen style or call background.
- Choose Full-screen photo or Advanced display.
- If there is no such item, try changing the Theme to the standard (more on this below).
Some firmware has this parameter hidden to activate it:
1. Go to Settings β About the phone
2. Tap 7 times on the item MIUI version (Developer Mode will be turned on)
3. Return to Settings β Additional β For Developers
4. Find USB Debugging and Allow System Windows Size Resize β Enable both
5.Reboot the phoneMake sure that the contact photo is uploaded in high resolution|Check the version. MIUI (Settings β The phone)|Disconnect the energy saving mode|Make a backup copy of contacts-->
Method 2: Change the theme of the design
The MIUI theme has a direct impact on how incoming calls are displayed, and some themes (especially from third-party developers) force the size of the photo to be reduced to bring back full-screen mode:
Steps:
- Open the settings β Theme of design.
- Select the standard MIUI or HyperOS theme (usually the first one on the list).
- If you use a custom theme, try to disable its elements: π¨ Go to the theme settings β Lock screen β reset the settings π± In the System Applications section, disable custom design for the Phone
Reset the device.
On the Poco F3, Redmi Note 10 Pro and Mi 10T, the βDark Mode + AMOLEDβ theme often blocks full-screen display β switch to a light theme.
| Xiaomi model | Does the full screen photo support by default? | Whether a change of subject is required |
|---|---|---|
| Redmi Note 12 Pro+ | Yes (MIUI 14) | No. |
| Poco X5 Pro | Partially (with the default theme only) | Yes. |
| Mi 11 Ultra | Yes (HyperOS) | No. |
| Redmi 10C | No (only after manual settings) | Yes. |
| Black Shark 5 | Yes (special game mode) | No. |

If the photo is still small after changing the topic, try removing the cache of the Phone application. Go to Settings β Applications β Application Management β Phone β Storage β Clear the cache.
Method 3: Using Third-Party Applications
If standard methods don't work, third-party apps will come to the rescue, replacing the standard incoming call screen with a custom one, where you can adjust the size of the photo, animations, and even add widgets.
Top.-3 tested applications:
- π² Full Screen Caller ID β Supports animation, resize photos and color filters. link to Google Play.
- π¨ Call Screen Themes β more than 100 templates with full-screen photos, works without root.
- π§ Truecaller - in addition to the number determinant, allows you to configure the display of contacts (you need to turn on Full-screen mode in the settings).
Instructions for setting up Full Screen Caller ID:
- Install the application and provide all the permissions requested (contacts, phone, overlay).
- Open the application β Display settings.
- Select Full-screen mode and adjust the scale of the photo slider.
- In the section Animation, you can add effects (for example, blur or paralax).
- Save the settings and make a test call.
β οΈ Attention: Custom call screen apps may conflict with Google Phone (if installed as the default app). β Annexes β By default. β Phone App and select the standard.

Method 4: Manual editing of system files (for advanced ones)
This is a method that is suitable for those who are willing to risk system stability for a full-screen photo, and requires root rights or ADB.
If you have root:
- Install a file manager with root support (such as Root Explorer).
- Go to /system/csc/others.xml.
- Find a line. <CscFeature_VoiceCall_VoiceCallUIType>.
- Change the value from "0" to "1" (full screen mode).
- Save the file, set the rights to 644, and restart the phone.
No root (via ADB):
adb shell settings put global voice_call_ui_type 1
adb rebootThese commands are forced to enable full-screen mode, but may not work on all models. On Xiaomi with HyperOS, the path to the file may differ - look for /system/product/overlay/.

Editing system files can cause your phone to crash. Before experimenting, back up through Settings β Additional β Backup and Reset.
Method 5: Update MIUI to the latest version
In the newer versions of MIUI 14 and HyperOS, the problem with small photos when calling is solved at the system level.
How to check and install the update:
- Open Settings β About the phone β System update.
- Click Check for updates.
- If a new version is available, download it and install it.
- After the update, check the call screen settings (see Method 1).
For models that do not receive OTA-Updates (e.g. Redmi 5 or Mi) A2), You can manually install the firmware:
- π Download the latest stable version MIUI from the official Xiaomi website.
- π Transfer the firmware file (.zip format) to the root folder of the phone.
- π Go to Settings. β The phone. β Updating the system β Three points. β Select a firmware file.
| MIUI version | Support for full-screen photo | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| MIUI 12 and below | No (only through third-party applications) | Some models work after editing system files |
| MIUI 13 | Partially (depending on model) | On the Redmi Note 11 and newer works out of the box |
| MIUI 14 / HyperOS | Yes (on most models) | In the settings there is a separate switch |
What do you do if nothing works?
If none of these methods helped, check out these points:
- πΈ Quality of contact photo β the image must be at least 720Γ720 px If the photo is small, MIUI It automatically scales and trims it.
- π Resetting β sometimes resetting the phone app helps (but not completely resetting the phone!) β Annexes β Application management β Phone, select Warehouse. β Clear the data. β οΈ This will delete the call history, but the contacts will remain.
- π οΈ Firmware problems - if after updating MIUI photo stopped showing, try to roll back to the previous version or install custom firmware (for example, Xiaomi.EU).
