Owners of Xiaomi Redmi 10 often face the inconvenience of having a contact photo displayed in a small circle rather than on the entire screen when calling. This makes it difficult to quickly identify the caller, especially if you have many contacts with similar names. Unfortunately, the standard MIUI settings do not have a direct option to zoom in during the call - but there are several workarounds.
In this article, weβll look at all the working methods, from hidden system settings to third-party applications, how to get Redmi 10 to show full-screen photos of contacts, what limitations each method has, and how to avoid typical errors. Importantly, some solutions require unlocking the bootloader or installing additional software, and weβll detail the risks and alternatives.
Why MIUI doesnβt show full-screen photos by default
Xiaomi deliberately limits the size of the photo displayed during a call, due to several factors:
- π± Design concept MIUI: Call interface in the latest versions of the shell is optimized for minimalism, where priority is given to the buttons of acceptance / rejection of the call.
- π Resource savings: Full-screen rendering (especially in high resolution) can increase the CPU load during a call.
- π οΈ Android Limitations: At the system level, Google recommends that developers not override important interface elements (such as the hands-free button).
However, in earlier versions of MIUI 10-11 (until 2020), the full-screen photo function was out of the box, and after the updates it was removed, probably due to complaints about the random operation of the sensor when you bring the phone to the ear, now this feature can be returned only by workarounds.
Method 1: Configure with βThemesβ (without root)
The safest method is to use the built-in Topics app. Some MIUI custom themes change the interface of incoming calls, including the size of the photo displayed.
- Open the Themes app (the icon with a brush on your desktop).
- Go to Calls (or Call Interface depending on the MIUI version).
- Scroll through the list of topics and select one where you see a large photo of the contact in the preview: π MIUI Default Dark (Dark Theme with Expanded Preview) π Colorful Calls (color accents) + snapshot) πΌοΈ Fullscreen Photo (specialized theme, if available)
Apply
β οΈ Note: After changing the theme, check other features (such as fast switches in the notification curtain). Some themes may break standard interface elements. If calls start to display incorrectly, return the standard theme to Settings. β Registration β Topics β By default.

Test with different photo resolutions (e.g. 500Γ500 and 1000Γ1000 pixels) |

Method 2: Editing system files (requires unlocking the bootloader)
For advanced users, there is a method of editing the system files responsible for the call interface. This works on Redmi 10 with the bootloader unlocked and TWRP installed. Attention: improper actions can lead to a phone "brick" (complete failure).
Instructions:
- Install MT Manager (root file manager) from XDA Developers.
- Go to /system/priv-app/TeleService/TeleService.apk
- Copy the file to a memory card and open it in MT Manager.
- Find the file. res/layout and edit the file. incoming_call_screen.xml (or similarly named).
- Change the parameters. layout_width and layout_height s ID photo_view on match_parent.
- Save the changes, restart the phone.
How to set up (in the example of ExDialer):
- Install the app from Google Play.
- Start and give access to contacts.
- Go to Settings β Call Interface β Photo size.
- Choose Fullscreen or Max size.
- B Settings β By default, make ExDialer the primary call app.
β οΈ Note: Some banking applications (Sberbank, Tinkoff) can block the work on phones with non-standard dialers!

If call notifications are missing after installing a third-party dealer, go to Settings β Apps β Permissions β Autostart and enable autostart for the new app.
Method 4: Using Live Wallpapers with an Increased Effect
A non-standard, but working method is to create a live wallpaper with a photo of the contact that will be activated when the call is made.
- Install the Video Live Wallpaper or KLWP Live Wallpaper Maker app.
- Create a video from a contact photo (you can use EZGIF to convert the image into a 3-5 second video).
- In the live wallpaper settings, select the created video and set it as a background for the lock screen.
- Turn on the option to show the call on the screen (if there is in your launcher).
Cons of the method:
- β οΈ It doesn't work on all versions. MIUI (run-down).
- β οΈ May increase battery consumption.
- β οΈ The video will be played in cycles, which not everyone will like.
Optimizing Contact Photos for Full-screen Display
Even if you've managed to zoom in on the image, the image itself may look blurry or cropped.
- π Resolution: Use a photo with at least a resolution 1080Γ1920 pixels (for vertical orientation).
- π¨ Format: Save in PNG (free of loss of quality; or JPEG quality 90-100%.
- π€ Personnel: The person must occupy the central 60-70% Images (so as not to be cut off when scaling).
- π Contrast: Avoid dark photos on a dark background MIUI β Add a light frame in the editor.
Recommended applications for photo preparation:
- π± Snapseed (precise pruning and correction)
- ποΈ PicsArt (Adding Frames and Effects)
- π Photo & Picture Resizer (change of permission)

If a contact photo is blurred, the problem is not with the phone settings, but with the original image quality. Always check the resolution of the file before uploading it to the contact!
Frequent problems and their solutions
When setting up full-screen photos, Redmi 10 users encounter typical errors:
| Problem. | Reason. | Decision |
|---|---|---|
| Photos do not increase despite the change of the topic | The cache of the application Phone is not updated | Clear the cache in Settings β Applications β Phone β Storage |
| When the bell rings, the screen flashes. | Conflict with the energy-saving regime | Add a dialer app to battery exclusions |
| Photo clipped around the edges | Wrong aspect ratio | Use a photo with a ratio of 9:16 (portrait) |
| Calls are not displayed at all. | Broken system file after editing | Restore the original TeleService.apk from the backup |
If none of the methods worked, check:
- π΅ Version MIUI: on MIUI 14+ Some methods may not work due to security changes.
- π Updates: Is the latest firmware installed for Redmi 10 (check Settings) β The phone).
- π‘οΈ Antivirus: Some programs (e.g. Avast) block modifications to system files.
